Chapter 297 Active Counterattack
Chapter 297 Active Counterattack
Scarlett's POV
Calista sat on the examination table, her usually immaculate composure completely shattered. Her hands trembled as she typed on my phone.
[This microscopic device can really control my thoughts and force me to execute commands?]
I nodded grimly, pointing to the enhanced image. The liquid chip was approximately the size of a grain of rice, but its implications were enormous.
[Yes. It's nanotechnology designed to interface directly with your nervous system. When activated, it can override your conscious decision-making and force specific behaviors.]
Her face went even paler as she processed this information.
[But why aren't you affected? Didn't they implant a chip in you?]
[My body has a unique ability to break down and neutralize the liquid chip. The Dark Organization’s Q calls me "the failed experiment."]
I thought about Liam and Luna sleeping peacefully back at the Langley estate, unaware of the danger that had been lurking so close to them. A terrible realization struck me.
[The children haven't been implanted. I think their "auntie" – your twin sister – helped them escape Dark Organization's control somehow.]
Calista's expression shifted from fear to something resembling hope.
[My sister... do you think she's been protecting them all this time?]
[It's possible. She might be the key to understanding how the Dark Organization operates and how we can fight back.]
I gestured toward the monitor, my mind already formulating a plan that was both brilliant and incredibly dangerous.
[I have an idea, but it's risky. I want to remove your chip, modify it, and then reinsert it. The modification would allow us to intercept their commands and potentially trace back to their source.]
Calista didn't hesitate. Her fingers flew across the phone's keyboard.
[Your decision is my decision. I'll cooperate fully with whatever you think is best.]
Her trust made my chest tighten. Years of partnership meant we didn't need many words. I would never let her down.
Thirty minutes later, I stood in the hospital's surgical suite, working with the practiced efficiency that had made Dr. S legendary in medical circles. The microsurgical tools moved in my hands as I swiftly extracted the liquid chip from Calista's brainstem.
The chip was exactly what I'd expected – a crystalline structure no bigger than a grain of rice, pulsing with embedded circuitry. However, compared to Dr. Sterling's chip, this version was much simpler.
Within twenty minutes, I had the modified chip reinserted. The incision was microscopic and would heal without a trace.
Calista woke up easily, her vital signs perfect. She blinked a few times, then looked at me with clear, alert eyes.
"That's it?" she asked, touching the tiny surgical site that was already beginning to heal.
"That's it," I confirmed, removing my surgical gloves. "Now, we're just waiting for the next instruction."
That confirmation came sooner than expected.
We were barely outside the hospital when my encrypted phone buzzed with an incoming signal. The message appeared on my screen, intercepted from the command being transmitted to Calista's chip:
CONTINUE SEEKING OPPORTUNITIES TO ELIMINATE THE TWO SMALL TARGETS. SWIFT ACTION REQUIRED.
My blood turned to ice. The "two small targets" could only mean Liam and Luna.
I felt rage building in my chest – a cold, focused fury. Someone was actively trying to harm my children, and they'd been using Calista as their weapon.
Calista, walking beside me, suddenly stopped. Her hand went to her head, and for a moment I thought the surgery had caused complications. Then she looked at me with clear, aware eyes.
"I felt it," she whispered. "The command tried to activate, but it felt... muffled. Like hearing something through thick glass."
The modification was working. We now had a window into Dark Organization's operations, and more importantly, Calista retained control of her own actions.
As we drove through Manhattan's quiet predawn streets, my phone chimed with an encrypted message from Gabriel.
Gabriel: [Everything alright? Your location pinged at the hospital.]
I'd forgotten he had access to my emergency tracking system. Despite everything between us, his protective instincts hadn't diminished.
Me: [Handled a situation with Calista. She was compromised by Dark Organization. We have intel now.]
Gabriel: [How compromised?]
Me: [Liquid chip implant. They've been using her to monitor the children. I've neutralized the threat.]
There was a long pause before his next message.
Gabriel: [I have news too. Derek orchestrated my parents' accident and my brother's death. He's been working with Dark Organization for years.]
The revelation hit me like a physical blow. Gabriel's own family had been systematically destroyed by someone working with the same organization that had torn my life apart.
Me: [They're targeting both our families. Liam and Luna might not be accidents – they could be the result of a planned genetic combination.]
Gabriel: [That would explain their unusual abilities and intelligence. Dark Organization wanted something specific from our bloodlines.]
The implications were staggering. If our children were products of Dark Organization's genetic manipulation, what other plans did they have for them?
Another intercepted message appeared on my screen, this one making my heart skip a beat:
COORDINATE WITH AUSTIN COOPER TO INVESTIGATE DR. STERLING'S WHEREABOUTS. PRIORITY ASSIGNMENT.
Austin Cooper. The bastard who'd tried to destroy me at Terminus Fortress was now working directly with Dark Organization. And they were actively searching for Dr. Sterling – one of my most valuable identities.
Me: [Gabriel, Austin Cooper has joined them. They're hunting for Dr. Sterling.]
Gabriel: [Why bypass you and your father to look for Sterling?]
It was a good question. Dark Organization knew Benjamin Langley was alive and that I had Dr. S's medical expertise. Why search for Dr. Sterling specifically?
Me: [I don't know what those lunatics are thinking. In any case, we have to set a trap and lure them out before they can consolidate their power.]
Gabriel: [Too dangerous. Scythe is more cunning than Q ever was. We could be walking into an ambush.]
Me: [And if we do nothing? How long before they succeed in eliminating the children? How long before they destroy what's left of our families?]
Gabriel didn't immediately reply to my message; I thought my words had moved him.
Me: [Think about our children. Think about the future of the Rothschild and Langley families. We can't let them keep operating in the shadows.]
Gabriel: [You're right. We end this, together.]
Gabriel and I had our complications, our unresolved feelings and conflicting loyalties, but in this moment we were united by something stronger than romance or personal desires.
We were united by the need to protect our children and destroy the organization that had caused so much pain for both our families.
The war with Dark Organization was no longer a distant threat or a personal vendetta. It was a fight for survival, for family, for the right to determine our own futures.
And I intended to win.
