Chapter 287 Kiss Him When Sober
Chapter 287 Kiss Him When Sober
Leila's POV
The doorbell chimed through my home. Adam and Sophia were right on time.
I opened the door, greeting them with genuine delight. "Adam, Sophia, you made it!"
Sophia immediately enveloped me in a warm hug. "Leila, it's only been days, but you've somehow gotten more gorgeous!"
"Is your mouth coated in honey or something?" I laughed, ushering them into my expansive foyer.
Sophia linked her arm with mine. "How are you feeling? Is everything okay? And how's the little one behaving in there?"
"We're doing well," I replied. The pregnancy was progressing smoothly, though the morning sickness had finally begun to subside.
Sophia's eyes widened with excitement. "May I feel?" She gestured toward my stomach, her hand hovering hesitantly.
"Of course you can." I nodded.
Sophia gently placed her palm against the curve of my belly. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, as if on cue, there was a distinct flutter beneath her hand. Her face lit up with wonder.
"Oh! The baby moved! It's actually responding to me!" Sophia exclaimed.
I couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. "This little one seems to like you. Usually, they're quite lazy and hardly move at all."
I led them into the dining room where Theron had arranged for our private chef to prepare an impressive spread.
"I specifically asked the chef to prepare all your favorites," I explained as we took our seats.
Adam and Theron fell into easy conversation. I watched them with quiet satisfaction, still occasionally surprised by how well they had learned to get along. Theron would sometimes glance my way, his eyes softening whenever they met mine.
We enjoyed the meal amid comfortable conversation, sharing updates about work and mutual acquaintances.
After dinner, Sophia and I moved to the living room while the men discussed some business matter. I pulled out my tablet to show her the photos from our recent getaway to the California coast.
"Look at these sunset shots," I said, swiping through the images. "Aren't they beautiful?"
Sophia leaned closer, her eyebrows rising in appreciation. "Wow! Leila, these are amazing! Did you hire a professional photographer or something? These look like they could be in a travel magazine."
I felt a flutter of pride. "Theron took them, actually."
"Wait, what? Theron? These photos are too good!" Sophia's surprise was evident in her voice.
"He's been learning specifically for this," I explained. "He said this baby's arrival is especially significant, so he wants to document everything..."
Sophia observed us thoughtfully, a hint of envy crossing her features. "You two are constantly giving off couple goals vibes, aren't you? It's wonderful to see you so happy."
While scrolling through more photos, I gently tugged at Sophia's sleeve and lowered my voice. "So, what's happening with you and Adam? Any progress?"
Sophia's expression fell slightly, and she sighed. "Don't even ask. It's still not working out."
I asked, "What do you mean? Sometimes I get the feeling he doesn't entirely dislike you."
Sophia followed my gaze toward Adam. "That's just it. I sometimes think he might be interested in me too. But other times, it feels like he only sees me as a cooperation partner and nothing more."
My interest piqued, I leaned closer. "Really? Tell me more. What makes you think that?"
Sophia hesitated, conflict evident in her expression.
"What's wrong?" I asked, puzzled by her reluctance. "Can't I help analyze whether his feelings are purely professional or something else? Who would be better qualified than me?"
After obvious internal debate, Sophia leaned in and confessed, "I've kissed him. Several times, actually."
"What?" I nearly exclaimed before remembering to keep my voice down.
"I pretended to be drunk at a few company events," she explained, her cheeks flushing. "I'd 'accidentally' corner him and kiss him. And the thing is, Leila... he never pushed me away."
I couldn't suppress my grin. "Well done, you! That was quite bold!"
Adam's character wasn't one to tolerate unwanted attention. If he truly disliked Sophia's advances, he wouldn't have allowed them to continue. His tolerance suggested something deeper.
Sophia's embarrassment deepened as she fidgeted with her bracelet. "He's a professional, Leila. He probably just tolerated it because I've cared for him while he was comatose, or maybe out of respect for you."
I looked at Sophia with a mischievous expression. "Is that so?"
"What do you think I should do?" Sophia asked, vulnerability clear in her voice.
I considered for a moment. "Why not try kissing him when you're completely sober and then make your move?"
Sophia's eyes widened in alarm. "Are you serious? What about workplace harassment issues?"
I analyzed the situation logically. "You've already kissed him while pretending to be intoxicated, and he didn't reject you. You think it's because he's being professional, but... wouldn't a clear-headed approach confirm whether it's genuine or not?" I leaned closer, lowering my voice further. "And there's something I think you've misunderstood."
Sophia looked at me questioningly. "What do you mean?"
"Think about it from the opposite perspective," I explained carefully. "When you're drunk, my brother also can't confirm your true intentions, can he? Some people act out when intoxicated or behave inappropriately in ways they normally wouldn't. Your previous drunken kisses—you're afraid to take them seriously, and he's equally cautious."
