Chapter 284

Chapter 284
Seeing Gray getting more and more enthusiastic, Emily pressed her lips together and looked helplessly at Ezra.

Ezra had been listening to Gray's chatter the whole way and was relieved to finally get a break. He quickly coughed and pulled out his phone, signaling to Emily.

"You guys keep chatting. I need to call your grandpa."

"Ezra..."

You can't leave me alone with him!

Emily reached out, trying to follow Ezra, but Gray pulled her into the car. "Ezra's busy. We'll wait for him at the house."

He then signaled the bodyguard to start driving.

During the ride to the villa, Gray didn't miss a beat, continuing to talk about how much he admired Quincy.

"Emily, I'm not kidding. Quincy really seems like a great guy. If you were with him, it would be so much better than being with that jerk Lawrence."

His words started to take a different tone.

Emily's eyes widened, and she couldn't hold back her retort, even with the bodyguard present.

"Gray, you can't say things like that. Even if Lawrence and I were divorced, I couldn't just turn around and be with Quincy."

"If word got out, what would happen to the Wilson family's reputation? People would talk about our families' relationship. Do I have to be entangled with the Parker family forever?"

Emily took a deep breath. If she wasn't worried about Gray's feelings, she would have asked if he was out of his mind.

She was still pregnant with Lawrence's child. If she turned around and got together with Quincy, it would be a mess. The child would be confused about whether to call Lawrence "Dad" or "Uncle."

She had to make it clear to Gray that this idea was completely unacceptable.

Besides, she only felt friendship and familial affection for Quincy. It wouldn't be fair to use him as a stand-in just because he looked like Lawrence.

It wouldn't be fair to Quincy or to Lawrence.

After all, she chose to marry Lawrence because she genuinely liked him, not for any other reason.

Emily's words made Gray reconsider.

Soon, he realized something was off.

Right, why should Emily divorce Lawrence only to marry another Parker? It's not like the Parker family is the only option.

"Exactly, why should someone from the Wilson family have to be with someone from the Parker family? Emily is so beautiful; she won't have trouble finding a good man."

It wasn't entirely his fault for thinking this way.

In Gray's mind, Emily's affection for Lawrence was mostly because of his good looks.

Now that there was someone like Quincy, who looked a lot like Lawrence and had a steady demeanor, Gray immediately thought of using Quincy as a substitute for Lawrence.

But he had oversimplified the situation.

The car stopped in front of the villa, and Gray dropped the topic.

A while later, Ezra arrived after making his call. Emily had already changed into comfortable clothes and was sitting on the couch, holding a bowl of hot porridge made by Hannah.

Ezra waited until she finished eating before bringing up the main issue.

"Emily, the escort vehicles almost all made it to the Bridge of Horizons, but your car disappeared on the way. What happened?" Ezra asked, his voice tinged with concern.

Ezra knew their bodyguards were well-trained and wouldn't act out of line unless Emily gave an order. So he was worried something had happened to her.

Knowing she couldn't hide this from Ezra, Emily decided to be honest. She nodded. "I got a call saying Elowen had appeared. It was urgent, so I had the car turn around and head to Beauty Sanctuary."

"It was then that I noticed the Parker family's bodyguards following us. Not knowing their intentions, I had the others continue on the original route while I quietly left with my team. I didn't expect..."

She didn't expect such a severe accident. Thinking about the bodyguards who were injured or lost their lives protecting her, Emily felt a wave of sadness. If she had known the consequences, she wouldn't have let them go to the Bridge of Horizons.

"Ezra, how are they now?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.

Ezra's tone was somber. "The severely injured will receive the best medical care from the Wilson family. As for those who lost their lives, the Wilson family will provide substantial compensation to ensure their families are taken care of."

Emily nodded. "Once things settle down, I want to visit their families personally."

Ezra patted her hand reassuringly. "Alright. This explosion was too sudden. The investigation is ongoing. Once everything is sorted, I'll go with you."

"But right now, we need to focus on why this happened. Our vehicles are the most secure, yet they were severely damaged and showed signs of a strong impact."

Hearing this, Gray's eyes darkened. "Ezra, I suspect this was a premeditated attack. Their target was likely Emily."

This wasn't just an accident. If it were a random explosion, why were the Wilson family's vehicles the most damaged and had the highest casualties?

Emily's heart tightened. She remembered the shock of seeing the explosion on her phone—hundreds of cars affected, hundreds injured, and some losing their lives. She couldn't think of anyone she had offended to this extent.

Who could be behind this? Who had the power and resources to orchestrate such a massive accident just to kill her?

Suddenly, a suspicious face flashed in Emily's mind. She clenched her fists and said, "Ezra, I have a suspect. She might help us solve this mystery."

"Who?" Ezra and Gray looked at Emily. Under her serious gaze, the bodyguard brought in someone with their hands and feet tied.

"Take the blindfold off," Emily commanded.

At Emily's command, the bodyguard removed the black cloth, revealing a terrified and panicked face. It was Elowen.

Having been blindfolded the whole way, Elowen squinted in the sudden light, then saw the three people in front of her. Two men with sharp eyes glared at her, and the petite woman sitting between them—Elowen recognized her immediately.

She had wanted to ruin that face more than anyone.

"Emily!" Elowen gasped, her face pale, trembling as she spoke. "Even if you turn into a ghost, I won't be afraid of you!"
