(Freya's POV).
I didn't understand what Devan was thinking at all. He hates me so much and when he sees me, he always gives me a disgusted look. Then why did he marry me? Every time I think about it, I never find the answer.
But, even with his attitude, I still love him very much. Although he only gave me pain and disappointment, my feelings for him remained the same.
I squeezed my hands tremblingly. Staring at the wedding photo on my bedside table. I missed the old Devan. But I realized whether he was then or now. They were the same person. And all this time he was just pretending to love me.
But, why?
"Mrs. Freya, are you still there?"
I gasped in shock as I heard Becca's voice from the other side of the phone. It snapped me out of my reverie.
"Oh. Yes, Becca. I'm still here," I replied quickly.
"Are you okay? From the sound of your voice, it sounds like you're not well."
"I'm fine, Becca. Today, please take good care of the boutique. I can't be there today because I have a pickle at my husband's house," I informed her.
"Oh, alright. Don't worry. I will take good care of the boutique. But, Mrs. Freya...." she paused, and I knew what she was worried about.
"The rent issue? I'm still thinking about it," I said lacklusterly. "At the very least, we still have a month before we move. And I'll make sure to get a new building before the end of this month."
I let out a long sigh as I ended my phone call with Beca. I didn't even know how to solve the problem I was facing right now. And I also didn't know who to ask for help.
Eric? Should I ask him for help?
"No, I shouldn't trouble him anymore." I shook my head while sighing heavily. This was hard for me to get through, but I had to persevere.
By the evening, I was ready with the neat clothes I wore. Trying to catch my breath as I walked out of my room. Tonight I need to be able to maintain my facial expression in front of Devan's family. If I put on a sad face, I was afraid Devan would get angry and we would fight again.
After I closed the door and turned back, I saw Devan who had also just come out of his room. In his white shirt, he looked very handsome.
"You still remember what you have to do tonight, right?" he asked as he stood next to me.
"Don't worry. I'll behave myself and pretend to be happy in front of your parents," I said in a mocking tone. He just rolled his eyes lazily and walked ahead of me.
I followed behind him. We got in the car and during the ride, we didn't talk at all. We didn't even look at each other as if we were strangers in the same car.
Arriving at Devan's family home, I'm immediately greeted warmly by his mother, Zabrina Gudytha.
"Oh, Freya. Come here, dear. I've missed you so much," she said with a warm hug that she gave me, then pulled me excitedly into the house.
"Me too, Moms," I said.
"Gosh, you haven't even seen each other for three days and mom is acting like she hasn't seen each other for ten years."
I immediately turned my gaze toward Aiden, who had just come down the stairs from the second floor. He complained about his mother's excessive behavior and greeted me warmly.
"Hi, Fey. How are you?" He walked over to me. Standing tall in front of me. And with his habit of always calling me Fey.
"I'm goodー"
"Oh, shit! What's wrong with your leg?" He suddenly shouted, making me gasp in surprise.
I reflexively looked at my leg, and so did everyone else there.
"Oh, my gosh. Freya, what's wrong with your leg? I didn't realize it when I brought you into the house," Zabrina said.
"My leg is fine. It's just a minor injury...."
"Freya's little faux pas. She was making hot tea and accidentally dropped the glass, scratching her leg. But, you guys take it easy. The doctor has already treated it."
I immediately turned to Devan as he suddenly put his arm around my shoulders. Pulling me tightly into his arms. Taking over the answer that I was supposed to do.
A lie.
I just smiled a little without saying anything else.
"You sure you're okay? Devan didn't bully you, did he?" Aiden asked.
"No, of course not. Why would Devan bully me," I laughed awkwardly, "he just takes good care of me."
"Well, we should sit down and have dinner together. I've prepared your favorite meal, dear," Zabrina said, smiling broadly at me.
I walked straight to the dining table, sitting right next to Devan. We ate together while talking about many things. And sometimes, I forget that my relationship with Devan is so bad. But tonight, he acted like he loved me so much. So attentive and occasionally throwing romantic remarks like a couple in love. The same thing he used to do to me.
I swallowed my saliva. Surely all the sweet things he did to me back then were also a lie.
"Fey, do you want to play this game with me?" Aiden exclaimed from the living room.
I turned to him, and he was busy preparing for the game he was going to play.
"Game?" I walked over to him and left Devan alone on the couch.
"Um, new. It's quite thrilling and exciting. You'll like it."
"And I'll lose in just one second," I said with a chuckle. I sat next to him who was still fiddling with it.
"Don't worry, I'll teach you. And I'll give it a little less for the first try," he chuckled as he patted my shoulder.
"Alright," I said excitedly.
"Come, sit closer," he ordered, and I followed his lead.
He taught me so patiently, even when I made a few mistakes, he explained them in a gentle tone. Until I understood every step. We started the first round of the game.
"Oh, shit. Are you sure, this is your first time playing this game?" he seemed to grumble throughout the game when I did better than him.
"Am I too excited?" I chuckled.
"Come on, Fey. You must be lying to me!"
"No. You saw it yourself when you taught me. I made a lot of mistakes."
"Okay, forget it. I lost," he said as he threw the joystick on the table.
I just laughed at his sullen reaction to losing to me. Just then, I saw his gaze focused on my leg. I was surprised when he gently touched the bandage on my leg.
"Does this still hurt?" he asked with a worried look.
My gaze dimmed. Devan didn't even worry about me when he saw that my leg was injured. But the other person showed concern for me.
"Um, it doesn't hurt anymore."
"Next time, please be careful. I hate seeing you get hurt the most," he said as he looked at me with a sad and disappointed look.
I only returned it with a wry smile. If Devan was also like this, I would have been very happy.
"Enough with the fooling around."
I gasped in shock as Devan suddenly came and kicked Aiden's hand that was touching my leg and looked at him sharply. And Pulling me quickly away from Aiden.
