(Devan's POV).
"Did you come here just to ask about it?" I asked Viona. I rolled my eyes lazily as I sat back down on my chair.
"Yes, because it's very important to me," she said. She followed me with annoyance and stood in front of my desk. "Tell me, Dev, did you really have dinner with her?!"
"Yes, I did have dinner with her. Then what's the problem?" I asked, looking at her. "It was just for an auction. And I was just helping out."
"You can buy anything but dinner with her! Can't you respect my feelings just a little?" her voice trailed off. She looked at me with trembling eyes. "I love you, Dev. Whether then or now, I still like you... how long are you going to put a wall between us?"
"Because I never loved you. Didn't I warn you?" I raised one eyebrow. "And don't cry in front of me because it's no longer useful."
I saw her hands clenched into fists. "Is she prettier than me? Did you enjoy dinner with her?"
"I don't have to tell you about that, Viona. That's my private business," I insisted. She looked disappointed at what I said. She looked at me with an expression of combined annoyance and sadness.
I had to do this, even if it was many times, I still had to do it so that she would give up her love for me.
"Viona, it's been four years. Look for another man out there...."
"And it's been four years for you too!" she interrupted quickly. She glared at me. "Forget about her, Dev. You think I don't know you did it because she looks like Freya?"
"How did you know?"
"That night I saw you in front of the building. I was a little shocked that she looked so much like Freya, but she was Vivian. And realize! She has a child and a husband. Don't bother her...."
"Viona, enough!" I hit my desk in exasperation. "Don't cross your limits."
"You're the one who shouldn't cross your limits. Stop approaching her, Dev. Don't let me do something you don't like."
"Viona, I warned you...."
"I warned you to. Stop seeing her, or I'll make her stop seeing you." After saying all that, she left with the door to my office slamming.
I let out a long breath. Grabbing my hair in frustration. Why did this have to happen? No matter how much I pushed Viona away from me, she never listened.
"Shit!"
At that moment, my cell phone rang and I turned my gaze to the screen.
"What's wrong?" I asked as soon as I received the call from Aiden.
"You didn't forget to pick Mom up today, did you? Lunchtime," he reminded me.
"I remember," I groaned. Massaging my temples.
"Are you okay? Your voice sounds...."
"I'm not in a good mood. I'm hanging up," I said as I ended our call.
I looked at the clock on my phone screen. Two more hours before I had to go to the hospital to pick up my mom. I did some work first and then drove to the hospital in my car.
As I entered the hospital hallway, about to pass the nurses' station, one of the nurses stopped me in my tracks.
"Excuse me, Mr. Harrison?"
"Yes? What's wrong?" I asked as I turned to her.
"There are flowers for your mother," she said, handing me a bouquet.
"From whom?"
"From a woman. I don't know her name, but she asked me to give them to you," she said.
"A woman? What does she look like?"
"She's quite tall. Pretty, with long black hair and blue eyesー"
"When?! When did she come here?!" as quickly. My heart suddenly beat very fast when the features were very similar to Vivian's.
"Just now she was...."
I immediately ran away before she finished her words. Leaving the flower in her hand and running along the corridor to look for Vivian.
If she had just come, that meant she was still in the hospital. When I reached the hospital grounds, I saw her walking out of the area and I quickly grabbed her hand. She squealed in surprise, turning to look at me with her eyes wide.
"I finally found you," I said breathlessly.
"What are you doing?" she asked. She looked surprised to see me.
I tried to catch my breath, still with my hand clasped tightly in his. My chest was rising and falling from running around.
"You gave the flowers to the nurse, right?" I asked in a firm tone.
"Flowersー"
"Don't try to lie to me, Vivian. The nurse already told me...."
"I'm not trying to lie to you. And wait for people to finish talking before you interrupt them," she said. I furrowed my brow, confused by what she said.
"What?"
"I was the one who gave you the flowers. For your mother."
"Why? You don't know my mom. What did you do that for? Tell me!" I shouted. I shook her shoulders with exploding feelings. About how this heart screamed and said that she was Freya. She sent flowers to my mom because she cared about her.
"Dev, it hurts. You're hurting me."
I reflexively removed my hand from her shoulder as she whimpered in pain. I was suddenly wracked with guilt.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry..."
I seemed to have lost my sanity. I almost made her hate me. Even though I had promised not to hurt her again.
"I think you misunderstood. I gave you the flowers because Tristan told me to. I just happened to come here to see my sick friend and Tristan left flowers for your mom," she explained.
"Then why Lily, how did you know my mom likes Lily flowers?"
"I didn't know. I just asked the florist for advice and they gave me Lily," he said.
I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. I took a deep breath as I looked deeply into her blue eyes.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. I cover my face with the palm of my hand out of shame and guilt and sit down on the iron bench.
I'd expected Vivian to be Freya so much that I'd acted this stupidly.
Damn it.
This is driving me crazy.
"Are you okay?" I hear her low, soft voice touch my eardrums. I lift my head and see her standing in front of me.
Oh my God... she really looks like Freya.
"No." I feel my voice tremble. "I'm almost crazy because of all this."
