(DEVAN'S POV).
Damn it!
No matter how many times I think about it, I shouldn't have done that to her. It was a mistake because I had slept with her. I'm losing my mind. I shouldn't be getting carried away like this.
I grabbed my hair in frustration. Under the cold water, hoping that my sanity would return and make me realize that I hated her. That I married her for revenge. But, I can't deny that I love her. That I have her in my heart.
"Shit!" I hit the bathroom wall hard. I repeatedly vented my emotions by hitting her. Hoping that this pain and tightness in my chest would go away, but it was so hard.
This was all Jason's fault. If only he hadn't provoked me, I wouldn't have lost control like this.
I swallowed hard. Turned off the water faucet roughly and ended my bath. As I exit the bathroom, my gaze falls on the bed where Freya is fast asleep in my oversized T-shirt that she's wearing.
Damn. We just had sex that I shouldn't even have had with her.
How can I sleep with the woman who ruined my sister's life? I should have destroyed her like she did to my sister.
I approached the bed and sat on the edge of the bed. I looked at Freya's peaceful, sleeping face. From the very beginning, I should have created a barrier so that I wouldn't get carried away. I should have suppressed my feelings and buried them deep.
I couldn't possibly betray my family just because of a woman like her.
"Mom."
I gasped in shock when I saw Freya deliriously calling her mother's name in her sleep. With a frown on her forehead as if she was having a nightmare. Her head keeps moving while calling her mother's name in a pitiful voice.
I move closer to her, sitting right beside her as she continues to deliriously call her mother.
"Mom, don't leave me. Mom..."
I was surprised that she was crying in her sleep. How bad her dream about her mother was that she was sobbing like this. I don't even know how she lost her parents.
"Mom, no. No... No..."
Her sobs were getting louder. She twitched as if she was avoiding anything bad happening to him or maybe his mom.
"Damn it," I swore softly and grabbed her body as she continued to scream in terror while calling out for her mother. Still asleep with tears in her eyes.
"Mom! No! No!"
"Shush... Fey, Fey, calm down. Damn it."
I hugged her tightly while patting her back, trying to calm her down as she continued to cry and scream in a delirious state.
"Calm down. Shush... Calm down, Fey. It was just a dream."
I didn't know if it would work without waking her up, but it was amazing. In the few moments I held her while calming her down, she became calmer than before. Her ragged breathing gradually calmed down. She drooped in my arms with the remaining drops of tears rolling down her cheeks.
Damn.
I shouldn't have been so nice to her.
The next day, I woke up with Freya still fast asleep beside me. With eyes puffy from her nightmare last night. I get out of bed. Glance at her before I go to the bathroom. Rushing away before she woke up.
I didn't know what to do and say if I saw her wake up after what we did last night. I don't want my heart to get weaker from being around her. I had to keep remembering that my main purpose in marrying him was to avenge my sister.
Arriving at the office, I immediately called Stefanny to come to my office. Not long after, I heard a knock on my door and Stefanny walked in.
"Good morning, sir," she greeted.
"Morning. What about the job I asked you to do yesterday? Did you investigate it for me?" I asked without preamble.
"Yes. It was Miss Viona's doing."
I furrowed my brow with a confused look. "Viona? You didn't misspeak?"
"Sorry, sir. But I didn't misspeak. Viona deliberately took over the building that Miss Freya used for her boutique. Then sold it to one of the bar businesses. Coincidentally, they were looking for a place to build their new bar."
"What would she do something like that for?"
"Uh, I don't know about that, sir. Should I find out why Miss Viona did it?"
I shook my head quickly. "No, there's no need. Leave it alone. I'm asking you to go to that businessman and make a deal with him."
"A deal, sir?"
"Yes, buy the building and find another place in the city center instead."
"Yes, sir. I'll do it."
"And make sure that Freya doesn't know about this. Ask him to say that he is renting the building to her because he has found a better place."
Stefanny nodded. "I understand, sir."
"Then, you can go back."
"Yes, sir."
Stefanny bowed to me for a moment before she turned to leave my room. As soon as she was gone, I picked up my cell phone. Searching for one of the names in my contacts.
"Dev!"
I immediately pulled the phone away from my ear when I heard Viona's shrill greeting from the other side of the line. I sighed heavily before speaking to her.
"Hm."
"Gosh, I can't believe you called me. Did you miss me? Dev, ever since you got married, you've been neglecting me. Did you know that?"
I rolled my eyes lazily. This wasn't going to end with just one or two words out of her mouth.
"Viona, stop. Let me talk."
"Okay!"
I sighed heavily again as she replied in a high-pitched voice that sounded loud in my ears.
"Meet me tomorrow afternoon. There's something I want to talk to you about. I'll wait for you at the café near your office."
"What do you want to talk about?"
"You'll know when we meet later."
"Alright, alright," she complained. "How about if I come to your office? I haven't been there in a while."
"Vionaー"
"Please...."
"Alright. Meet me tomorrow afternoon at my office."
I immediately ended my phone call. In my mind, I wondered why Viona would do that. She'd never even been interested in real estate. So, why would she bother Freya?
