(Freya's POV).
On the bed, I was very nervous waiting for Devan to come out of the bathroom. Devan Harrison Haven. The man who officially became my husband a few hours ago.
I was surprised to see Devan come out in his neat clothes.
"Devan, where are you going?" I asked.
It was our first night, but Devan looked like someone who wanted to go for a walk.
"Dev-" I was instantly stunned when Devan shot me a glare.
"I'm going out," he replied.
"K-out? Where?" I asked, confused.
"Nightclub," he replied indifferently.
"Nightclub? But we just got married," I said as I approached Devan who was walking towards the door.
"I don't care," he interjected in a cold tone. He gave me a hateful look. "Don't you dare cross me," he ordered.
"But it's our wedding day," I said quietly. I wrung my hands in agitation.
"So?" he asked.
"W-we're officially husband and wife. Is it normal for you to go out on our first night?" I asked in a low voice.
"So what do you want?" He walked closer to me. "You expect me to sleep with you on our first night?" he said with a mocking smile.
"Dev, what's wrong with you?" I asked, confused. I reached for Devan's hand, but he brushed it away roughly.
Where was the Devan who always smiled gently at me and was full of caring gestures? The Devan currently standing in front of me was not the Devan I knew. His gaze was so cynical and full of hatred.
"Marrying you alone makes me sick. Don't expect me to sleep with a lowly woman like you!" he exclaimed harshly.
"What do you mean, Mas?" I asked in a trembling voice. I bit my lower seedling to keep my tears from falling.
"Forget it. Don't interrupt my fun!" he snapped.
"Devan!" I exclaimed as Devan came out of the room slamming the door.
I threw myself to the floor. The bone-white wedding dress I was wearing was tattered by the squeezing of my hands. My tears fall crying for Devan's departure on our first night.
It's late at night and Devan hasn't come home yet. I've tried calling his number many times, but it's not picked up at all.
"Where are you?" I said in a trembling voice. I kept crying in my room.
Tonight was supposed to be a beautiful night for us, but instead, he sowed wounds in my heart. He just left me on our first night.
I still tried to contact Devan even though he didn't pick up. On the 30th call, he picked up the phone.
"Hello, Devan?!" I called with a pale face.
"Hello, who is this?"
I was surprised to hear a woman pick up the phone. "D-where's Devan?" I asked in a trembling voice.
"He's lying on my lap. Who are you?!" the strange woman exclaimed.
I immediately hung up the phone call. I clutched my phone with a broken heart. My tears broke knowing he was with another woman.
Oh my God... Why did Devan change his attitude like this? What happened to him?
I sobbed with a broken heart.
I woke up in the morning. Last night I waited for his return in the living room until I fell asleep on the sofa. I immediately ran to check his room to see if he was home yet, but he wasn't there. As I came down from the second floor, I heard the sound of a car coming from the yard.
I hurriedly ran to the door and was surprised to see Devan coming home looking disheveled. The pungent smell of alcohol immediately greeted my nose.
"Dev, are you drunk?" I asked. I tried to help Devan into the house, but he brushed my hand away roughly.
"Don't touch me!" he snapped.
"Dev, what's wrong with you?" I was already crying when Devan was rude to me. "Why are you being rude like this?" I asked.
"I am like this," he spoke with a mocking smile.
"No, you're not. You are different. One year we've known each other and you've never once been rude to me," I said with a trembling voice.
"Oh, yes. Stupid Devan," he said in a mocking tone. "He's a fool for being nice to a woman like you."
It hurt. I squeezed my chest which felt tight. I was helpless as he looked at me with disgust and hatred. It was a very different look from the Devan I knew.
"Dev," I whispered softly. My hand tried to reach his arm.
"You nag! Leave me alone!" he snapped. He pushed me until I fell to the floor.
I winced in pain. He just looked at me with a mocking smile and walked away. I tried to get up with my wedding dress still clinging to my body.
"Wait, Dev!" I called out. I managed to catch up to Devan and pulled his hand. Now we were face to face.
"Let go!" he snapped.
"Dev, what did I do wrong? Why are you being so rude?" I asked, confused.
"You've done a lot wrong, Freya." Devan grabbed my chin.
"D-Dev, it hurts," I said. I winced in pain.
Devan released his grip in annoyance. "Go away!" Devan concluded, "and don't bother me again," he continued.
"No! I won't leave until you answer my question, Dev!" I exclaimed.
Devan snorted in annoyance. "It's my loss for marrying a woman like you, but what can I do?"
The tightness inside my chest left me at a loss for words. I could feel how hateful he was from the look in his eyes towards me.
"You proposed to me, Dev! You said you loved me," I said through sobs.
"Who would have thought you would believe anything I say, Freya? Do you think I, a rich man, would marry a lowly woman like you?" Devan said with a mocking smile.
I felt sad. Why didn't he get a beautiful gift on our wedding day, but a gift of betrayal like this?
"So you've been lying to me?" I asked in a low voice. I crumpled up my dress.
"Wake up, Freya. Why would I love a woman like you," he said.
"Then why did you marry me if you don't love me at all, Devan?!" I snapped in a sobbing voice.
"I married you to make you miserable, Freya," he said.
This sense of disappointment and betrayal broke my heart. I stared at him with tears streaming down my face.
I took off the ring on my ring finger and threw it at him. "Divorce me, Dev! I want us to get divorced!" I cried.
The ring crashed into Devan's body before falling to the floor. Devan grabbed both my shoulders roughly.
"Before I make your life a living hell, I will never divorce you, Freya," Devan said with his eyes flashing with hate.
