Chapter 23 I can’t go with you, Ryan

Daniel really got on my nerves last night and if it wasn't for the contract, I would have aldo given him a piece of my mind. I mean, what right does he think he has to accuse me like that? Other than the room issue, I've kept to all the rules but he sees me with one man and all of a sudden, I'm a bad person?
That's one thing I never tolerate but there's money involved in this case so I have to tolerate it.
“It's just a year after all, and a month is almost over. It's just eleven months left and I will be free from all this.” I thought to myself.
My phone rang then and I was pulled back to reality. I grabbed it and Jenna's name lit up the screen.
“Heyy,” I let out.
“Hello to you too, my beautiful billionaire's wife. How are you doing this sweet morning?” she asked while I laughed.
“Will you stop with the silly drama? What's happening? What side of the bed did you wake up on this morning? You seem a bit giddy.” I retorted while she chuckled.
“I don't get it. Can't a girl want to hear her best friend's voice early in the morning?” she teased but I already could tell there was something more.
“Come on now, out with it.” I insisted.
“Okay, okay, you got me. So don't get me wrong, I'm not saying something happened for sure. It's just what I heard and observed.” she chimed in.
“Now, you're just getting me scared. Just tell me already.”
“Any trouble in paradise?” she asked while I raised my brows in confusion.
“What's that supposed to mean? What paradise?” I quizzed.
“I mean, are you and your husband okay? Is everything alright at home?” she cleared.
“Of course, we are okay. We had a littke misunderstanding last night but he had the time to flaunt his arrogance so I guess we are good. Why did you ask?” I retorted.
“Okay so last night, I was at the club and I saw him. He requested for company and the boss came to me. Thankfully, I already saw them talking so I made up an excuse not to go in with him. There's no way I'm doing that to you. But then, there was nothing I could do to stop him from getting a girl.” she explained and then paused expecting me to say something but I didn't so she just continued.
“He got his wish and after he left, I overheard the girls talking about their customers for the night. The girl with Daniel was there too and from the conversation, I could tell something went down.” she finally stopped and I still didn't have anything to say.
“You're still there?” she asked after a while.
“Yeah, I'm here.”
“So why aren't you saying anything. Are you mad?” she quizzed while I scoffed.
“Trust me, there's nothing like that happening. I actually didn't say anything because there's nothing to say. Whatever Daniel chooses to do is none of my business. It's not as if we are real lovers and this marriage is just a contract. In the next eleven months, it will be over. I'll have my money and he will have his inheritance. That's all. So he's absolutely free to do whatever he likes.” I let out.
“That sounds good. You're a better person than I am though. I don't care if it's a contract or not, no one is getting is messing with my bag. Love or not.” she said frankly and there was something about the way she said it that made me burst into laughter.
We talked about some other things before she had to leave for work so we ended the call.
I dropped the phone on the bed, heaved a deep sigh and then went into the bathroom to freshen up.
I know I just told Jenna over the phone about how I don't care what Daniel does with his sex life. But then, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I kept imagining what went down in that private room.
Nothing probably happened, right? A voice rose in my head while I tried to shake off the feeling.
And even if something happened, how is it any of my business? Daniel has made it clear from the start that no love is allowed in this marriage so he definitely doesn't owe me any loyalty. And even last night, he made it even clearer that we are allowed to get satisfaction anywhere and with whoever. Just be sure not to cause a scandal.
“See, you have no right to be mad or jealous.” Another voice rang in my head and I gasped immediately.
“Of course not! I am not jealous! I have no reason to be!” I let out and then turned on the shower.
I stayed there long enough till every disturbing thought had been washed off. I finally turned off the shower, stepped out and then grabbed a towel.
I picked one of the designer dresses that was brought over the other day. I styled my hair, did a little makeup and then stared at myself in the mirror.
“Wow,” I muttered under my breath as I admired my beautiful figure.
I decided to update my socials so I took my phone and snapped a mirror selfie. I uploaded it and in a second, I got a like. It was Ryan and I don't know why that made me smile but I did.
I was still admiring the picture all over again when my phone rang and his name came up on the screen.
I didn't want to answer it af first, I was too shy to talk to him after what happened last night. It stopped ringing and I heaved a relief sigh but his name soon popped up again.
This time, I was so sure I wasn't going to answer it but then, as I tried to swipe it away, I mistakenly answered it.
“Hey beautiful,” Ryan let out while my mouth curved into a smile.
“Hi Ryan, I'd appreciate we stick to just names though.” I chimed in.
“Accepted. We'll stay formal. So how are you doing? For a second there, I thought you were trying avoid me. But I guess you were just busy and not ignoring my call.” he asked.
“I'm doing okay. And I wasn't ignoring your call or you. I just didn't know how to face you after what happened last night. I'm so sorry, Ryan.” I apologized while he chuckled.
“I don't know what you're talking about. What happened last night and what do you mean you don't know how to face me. Last night was fantastic and if you hadn't asked us to stick to formalities, I would have used the appropriate words to describe what we had. But if I do, I'd going against your orders and I don't want that.” he relayed while I just laughed.
“I'm being serious, Ryan. I'm really sorry.” I chimed in.
“Since you've refused to believe me, I accept your apology but you have to make it up to me.” he retorted.
“Okay, if it's something within my power, then I will.”
“Ohh, it definitely is. I have an event tomorrow and I'd like you to be my plus one.” he let out while I smirked.
“I'm sorry but I'd have to turn you down. I hope you find someone else.” I said slowly…
