Chapter 35: It’s Time to Be Parents!
“Where. Is. Drew?” I said — and this time, the smirk was on my face.
For some mysterious reason, Xavier’s lips curled into a smile. Maybe it meant something deeper or maybe it was just because he wanted to keep his poker face on — even when he was not the one with a gun right now.
“Why are you smiling?” I asked him, but he shook his head — almost cutely, before extending his hand toward me.
“Give it to me.”
“Oh yeah, sure. I was just going to give it—are you STUPID?” I shouted at him and he laughed.
“Stop laughing!” I said in a serious tone.
“Are you so profound in shooting that you can aim with your left hand already?”
I noticed I was holding the gun in my left hand. To be honest, I didn’t pay attention because I wasn’t going to shoot him, and I didn’t actually have time to choose which hand I pick it up from. And well, I wasn’t actually comfortable with the thought of holding a weapon in my hand, considering I hadn’t done that a lot of times before.
“Yes. I got training for over a year!” I lied, trying to bluff around so he stopped taking me so lightly.
I mean it was still a gun — still could kill. It was almost embarrassing for him to dismiss me like that.
“Yeah?” He moved toward me and I straightened my hands so I could come off as a little intimidating; if nothing — but he easily lowered my gun.
“Don’t stress yourself, woman. He just went to school. His teacher called earlier since he had been absent for some days because of the mess.”
“And he was, what, well dressed?” I asked to confirm my doubts, while ignoring the situation.
"Well, Riverdale Country School doesn’t seem to accept the normal dresses,” He said, shrugging and taking his gun back from my hand, “and even if I could convince them, it would not be good to teach our child to break rules from such a young age, right?”
“I will come back to that but you—you changed his school!?” I asked him, my patience wavering.
“Well, yes. What does the teacher think she is, trying to tell my child when to attend school?”
“He is not—ugh, he needs to have regular attendance!”
“In a school that I can afford and you can’t, not some low-level city school!”
“So that’s why you changed his school, right?” I said as I took a step toward him, “To show off how you could afford that school? Well, guess what Sherlock, more money doesn’t mean better education! I wanted him to grow up among normal people because he needs to learn how to deal with normal problems and not rich brats. But you wouldn’t understand that, right? Of course, how could you!”
“In a school where he was constantly bullied from such a young age? I don’t understand your concept of parenting but our child doesn’t need to go through shit to know about life. Everything doesn’t need to be learned from experience, some things can be learned by knowing about them.”
“Well, it is weird to learn about good morals from someone like you.”
I turned around and was about to go when I heard him sigh. He continued: “I know you think I am nothing good but no one will love Drew as a father more than I do, and you will accept that one day.”
“Or you will make me, right?” I said and chuckled. “That’s just who you are and what you do. And honestly, that is all you’re capable of.”
“You don’t even know a part of me, Scarlett.”
“I am glad.”
I walked out of the room immediately after that. Damn, I wasn’t ready for this “parental” conversation with him — not without a cup of coffee!
I feel like my brain was going to stop functioning at any moment now. Ugh.
What a great start.

After getting ready — or whatever that meant since I came here, I stepped down once again since I was feeling a bit off without my coffee and without eating anything for quite a bit. I hadn’t eaten anything since the day before yesterday.
When I reached the last stair, I was pulled by someone — of course, him — and he took me to another hall. I didn’t say anything since I couldn’t muster up the strength of talking to him about anything anymore. I was so tired, both emotionally and mentally.
Thankfully, he left my hand. “It has been too long. Have a good breakfast and then we have to go somewhere.”
I looked at the large dining table in front of me and then at him. He was formally dressed, just like he normally was when he was at the company. Maybe he was going to leave for work.
“Yeah,” I said as I sat at a distant seat. There were several dishes to choose from but I took two of my favorite and started eating quietly.
He sat across from me and I stopped paying any attention to him. I continued with my food and was done in a few minutes. As soon as I stood up, a maid came and took the utensils from my hand.
I sighed, knowing I couldn’t do anything just because I was not used to having so many maids around.
“Come with me,” he said as he stood up.
“Where are we going?”
“I will tell you once we reach there.”
“Oh wow, that would be so generous of you. Tell me!” I said, frustrated.
“Oh geez, are you always on edge, this way?” He shook his head. “Come with me, Scarlet. Don’t make me say it again now.”
I scoffed. “Whatever.” I didn’t know what else to do, since I was pretty sure that I couldn’t escape if I was at his house — I was pretty sure that his “security” here was higher. If we went someplace less secure, I could try, although I wasn’t sure if that was the best idea at the moment.
And I also needed to know how Max was. Maybe I could gather up some news on him.
He smirked and took my hand again — while I followed him out to his car.
