Chapter Twenty
Nate During the drive to the airport, I couldn't stop thinking about Loretta. Instead of thinking about her body or how she makes me feel every time I wake up to her beautiful face. I was instead thinking about her and Sam's relationship.
I know that Loretta loves writing, and she wants to become a successful author, so I didn't say much about this Sam guy. I had to trust Loretta but when I saw the video of Loretta running out of his car as they drove somewhere together, I couldn't just sit back and watch.
As I left the car, I turned to my security team.
"I want all the information you can find on this Sam guy."
I know Loretta like the back of my hand and the look on her face as she ran out of that car, I knew something was wrong.
"Yes sir, I’ll brief you this evening" I nod my head at him and head into the airport. I would be in Abu Dhabi. I had told Loretta that I'm staying here for meetings but I'm here to meet a doctor who is a professional when it comes to fertility. I spoke to the doctor back in London and he recommended this guy.
Marrying Loretta is what I've wanted for ages now, I bought the ring after the opening, I invited her too. I was adamant on marrying her for a long time, but I wasn't sure if she would forgive me what I did.
The way she reacted to me at the opening was enough proof for me that we were going to end up together, whether it was a few days or a couple of years.
Having children is something that I would love, and Loretta is exactly who I want to mother my children. Yes, children I want multiple. Who wouldn't want more than one little Loretta's running around creating havoc in my life?
After meeting with him tonight I will be flying back to London with him and we're going to think of the next steps for myself and Loretta.
But I also want to make sure this Sam guy is not a threat, if he thinks he can play around with my Loretta behind my back then he can think again.
He may be a big shot writer but I'm not a force to be reckoned with. I can have him jobless in just a few hours, which is exactly what I'm planning to do if my team come back to me with sufficient evidence that this guy is trouble.
"Sir, Dr Omalu is here," my assistant says walking into my office with a notepad in her hands, probably waiting for my next command. We had arrived in the city and headed straight to the office I had here. I did a lot of work with a team here in Dubai, so I made sure that I had an office here to come to.
"Excellent, can you get me an update on my brother? I want to know of any improvements to the case." She quickly scribbled it down before smiling and leaving my office.
I stand up and follow her to meet this doctor that will hopefully help me in creating a family with my dear Loretta. Walking into the lobby I spot a man who I instantly recognize from the pictures I was shown of him.
"Mr. Omalu, it's a pleasure to meet you." I stick my hand out shaking his hand in a firm grip.
"Pleasure is mine, I'm aware of your projects sir, I also come with great news," he says quite gleefully may I add.
My eyes widen slightly. "Let's talk over here," I say, motioning to a table with a selection of beverages and snacks. "You give me food and I give you children, right?" He laughs lightly, taking a seat across from me.
"Does that mean?" I ask him, cutting right to the chase. He smiles, a great big one before taking a sip of the glass of water he just poured out for himself.
"Yes, I monitored the scans that her doctor sent me and I'm more than positive that your fiancée will be able to conceive her own children…with your help, of course."
I'm glad he's not some stuck up doctor. Not that I hate them but it's much easier like this.
Jerome and I spend the rest of the evening discussing the next steps. We would fly out tomorrow morning to London to meet with Loretta and take the necessary next steps.
Just as he was about to leave to head back to his office, my security team came barging through the lobby. The head of my team wasn't his normal joyful self. He had a stern expression that didn't sit well with me considering what I asked of them just a few hours ago.
"Sir, I couldn't find anything on him," he says to me, looking around anxiously. Well, that's not a problem. Why is he acting like this is a serious situation?
"Well then what's the need for this?" I say looking back at the group of guards standing behind him. One of them has his phone against his ear and is barking orders to whoever is on the other side of the call.
"There's nothing that indicates any past criminal activity or trouble, but the security footage we just collected from Miss Loretta's apartment has us alarmed for her safety," he adds, showing me a tablet which has the footage he must be talking about.
I grab the device and bring it closer.
"Let's go," I shout, not caring if customers are walking around. This Sam must have a fucking death wish if he thinks laying his hands on her is acceptable.
Jerome completely understood this, and I agreed to contact him when all this was cleared up.
Loretta When I saw those pictures of Nate back in London I was confused. I didn't know why he would lie to me and tell me that he was still in Dubai but instead he was back in London doing something behind my back.
I spoke to George, and he said he had no idea what was going on, but he was going to find out for me and get back to me. Because he thought that there had to be some reason and if he didn't tell me then it's better that he goes and ask himself.
I managed to skip today's session with Sam as he had to leave suddenly to see his family.
I just spoke to Nate, and he said that he would be skyping me tonight because he's really busy at the office. This will really show me if he's actually hiding something from me or if he's telling me the truth.
What was really weird though was when I tried to find those pictures I saw of Nate back in London, I couldn't find them. It was like someone had removed them and removed anything that was reported on Nate in the last few hours.
Luckily, I already showed George the pictures and he knows but other than that I have no proof at all.
The car ride back from the hotel was pretty awkward between me and Sam.
Luckily for me, he stopped trying to touch me or to hold my hand, so I was a bit relieved with the whole situation. However, I was still on edge all the way back.
After dinner, Nate called saying he was free before his final event tonight, so I made myself comfortable and waited for his call.
When his computer connected, I had a view of Nate and he looked like he was sitting in the apartment he has out in Dubai.
I asked him simply if he had gotten there safely and if he had eaten at the hotel to which he replied yes and followed by giving me a description of his meal, his drink and his entertainment, just everything.
I didn't want to fight over a Skype call. I didn't want to say anything. I didn't want to accuse him of anything, so I just kept my mouth shut and just acted like everything was normal.
He was a little bit more curious about Sam and asked me very specific questions about my attitude towards him, how we felt about each other, and other weird things. I couldn’t understand why.
I was very tired, and Nate could see this, so we agreed to speak in the morning. He would arrive late evening, so he said that he would see me the following morning because he'd probably be very tired.
I spent the next day with Sam. We had the final corrections to do for the book and after that we would be finished hopefully.
"I really don't feel safe knowing that you're here alone whilst all this is going on." Sam and I are sitting on the sofa, and we are just watching the news where there has been reports of a terrorist attack in the center of London.
I'd rather be alone than spend the night here in my own house with Sam.
"It's fine. I can just call Tammy or George to come over when you go home and check on your mum.”
There was me thinking that he would just agree to leave, but this is Sam we're talking about. As per usual Sam is not leaving.
I tried to make the night as normal and less complicated as possible. I decided to order Chinese to which Sam agreed and said that it was his favorite takeout food.
As the night progressed, I was quite content and happy with the way things turned out. Me and Sam could speak like normal again and there was no awkward moments or tense moments which I was getting used to.
"You look like you going to drop dead. Here, why don't you go up and I'll finish this and then switch off the lights and stuff for you. "
It's true. I have been yawning for the past half an hour and I've been trying to stay awake, but my eyes are barely staying open. I feel like I am going to sleep any moment.
"Here let me take you."
Even though I was really tired, I couldn't let him do that. "No, I 'm okay. I can go there myself." I fought his hands and stood up. Surprisingly, I was able to fall asleep straightaway and I was sure that Sam left because I heard the main door close.
Through the night I kept waking up and when it got to about 3 in the morning, I was wide awake. It was weird but I knew that I wouldn't be getting back to sleep. I went through to the lounge and couldn't find Sam anywhere.
I then checked my phone, and there was a message saying he left to do some work.
I'm relieved he didn't try anything last night. And I kind of feel like he's going back to how I used to know him. Something must have happened I just don't know what.
I spent the whole morning doing work and I had an event to attend to later on with some other bloggers.
I need something to take my mind of everything at the minute. I also need to think about making plans with Nate about the wedding.
We haven't really done anything and I'm sure my mum is beginning to get really impatient.
It's not like Eaton is getting married anytime soon.
I took the liberty of calling my mother and making arrangements for some wedding dress shopping. She was more than happy about my decision, and we invited Tammy and Angela.
"Why can't I have two mums? I can't move in a ball gown. How am I going to dance at the reception?" I've been having this debate with her ever since I brought it up when I picked her up from the hotel.
"Because Loretta that's just greedy and besides the only dancing you'll be doing is slow dancing." I noticed the girls giving me a side look. Surely mum would know better, because that wasn't the case at all.
"Of course not, that's at the beginning, when all the kids go home, I'm going to be getting down,” I say this with a wink in the direction of Tammy and Angela who are sitting in the back.
"C’mon Hannah you can't expect Retta to not enjoy herself, and besides the sexier she looks the more babies you're going to have" Angela says as she opens her big mouth.
I can already see the panic on all their faces when the word baby comes into the conversation.
"Oh god Retta I'm so sorry,” she apologizes reaching over to touch my shoulder.
"It's okay Angela," I say indicating to the left. I don't want them to avoid talking about the subject just because it's hard for me to get pregnant by myself.
"Aren't you meeting with a doctor in Dubai anyway?" my mum says confusing me entirely.
When I stopped at the red lights I stared at my mum with a puzzled expression. What the fuck is she talking about.
"Mum what do you mean? I haven't organized anything,” I say to her. Why would I meet a doctor in Dubai when London has some of the best doctors in the world? I just watch her eyes widen and she curses to herself. Before looking away.
"What did you mean mum?" I ask her again hoping that she would just spit it out already. I'm growing impatient here.
A tap on my shoulder alerts me and I just happen to see the light change from red to amber.
"Oh, Dios lo que he echoes," she mutters to herself as I start to drive into the parking Area looking for a space to park my car.
Angela and Tammy kept their mouths shut but I could tell they're wondering what my mum meant by saying that.
When I finally switch the engine off, I turn my body towards my left and stare at her.
"What do you know that I don't ma?" I ask her, grabbing a hold of her hand. I close my fingers around her warm ones. I could see her fighting with herself. She was hiding something from me, and I could see the clocks in her brain turning.
Why wouldn't she tell me, why would she keep a secret like this from me?
