Chapter 35 - The Billionaire Triplets Take New York
Marilynn strode into her room tossing her heels to the side, “Scarlet!”
“Y-yes miss,” a terrified maid answered the summons shaking as she stood in the doorway.
“Tell Derek I want to see him.”
“Um…Derek?”
“Did I stutter?”
“N-no.”
Marilynn turned away from the maid in disgust. She marched to her bedside table yanking open the drawer and rummaging through the contents. The image of her sister and Silas was burned into her mind. She needed a release or she wouldn’t sleep well. Derek wasn’t much but he had some skill to get her off. Yet she sensed she needed more. In times like these the best release was using her strap-on and bending him over.
Digging in the drawer she grew more frustrated when she didn’t find the object of her search. She straightened trying to remember where she put it after last using it. It wasn’t often she needed it. Even after the Charity Gala she only needed Derek to work her a little harder to drive out the image of Ava’s self-important face. As she scanned the room she noticed the maid still fidgeting in the doorway.
“What are you still doing here? I told you to get Derek.”
“Miss…he’s gone.”
“What? What do you mean gone?”
“F-fired.”
“What? When?”
“Master Emerson fired him this afternoon.”
That didn’t make any sense. Her father hadn’t mentioned it at breakfast. Come to think about it he hadn’t been home for lunch either but that wasn’t particularly unusual. Her father usually ate at the office not wanting to disrupt his work. Even with him working from home as of late he didn’t leave his study for meals. Still it wasn’t like her father to take interest in the house personnel. Generally he left management of the staff to her mother.
“Miss Marilynn,” the head butler cautiously approached. “Your father wishes to speak with you in the study.”
“About what?”
“He did not specify.”
“Fine. Whatever.” Marilynn snorted marching out as she had marched in.
The maid breathed a sigh of relief. She hadn’t been working for the Carlisle’s long but she already learned to fear Marilynn’s unpredictable temper, worse than Marilynn’s temper was their employer. Though Emerson Carlisle was only around infrequently the day had been a surprise as he summarily dismissed the majority of the staff. No one seemed to be safe but somehow the maid avoided trouble and retained her position but now she wondered if it was for the best.
Marilynn breezed down the halls fuming over the loss of her preferred bed companion wondering if there was someone else she could take as a substitute. Anne often proclaimed women made the best lay so maybe it was time to change up her routine. The maid had been rather annoying and certainly needed some lessons in proper conduct around her employer.
Reaching her father’s office she flipped her hair over her shoulder and shoved her thoughts aside before opening the door, “Hello daddy!”
She stepped into the room looking toward the desk first only to see the chair empty. Confused she took in the rest of the room seeing three of the usual security personnel. All were relatively large and burly men. She had been tempted more than once to take one of them to bed but they worked directly under her father and she couldn’t risk him finding out about her little affairs. It was much easier to bully the house staff.
Emerson stood looking out the window whiskey glass in hand. He had a thoughtful look, introspective. It was not his usual expression but Marilynn didn’t sense anything out of the ordinary that would make him fire the staff. Did something happen while she was at the spa?
“Sit down,” her father nodded to the desk.
Marilynn shrugged moving to a seat.
“No. This one.” Emerson moved to the one behind the desk. “There’s something I want to show you.”
Marilynn obeyed turning her attention to the computer screen. An article was displayed on it with a rather bold headline: Scandal Rocks Carlisle Household. Leaning forward she read it her face slowly growing paler. Wide-eyed she looked at her father as he quietly studied her reaction.
“Daddy, these are all…”
“Lies,” He said. “You expect me to believe that since I’ve believed all the others that have spewed from your mouth?”
“Daddy…”
“I already talked to Doctor Peterson. He confessed to everything.” Emerson sipped his drink. “In fact he told me a lot of things. About how you tried to kill your sister multiple times. About how you wanted birth control so you could have sex with your boyfriend and our staff apparently. Imagine my surprise when several broke down when I confronted them today.”
Marilynn bit her lip wondering what she should say. Should she play dumb? Innocent? Her father never questioned her before. Something must have happened to bring this change. There was no way Ava would seek him out so they couldn’t have talked not that he would believe anything she had to say anyway.
“What’s more…I came to learn you orchestrated your sister’s downfall by drugging her,” Emerson sat across from her his gaze hard, unforgiving.
“…Daddy you can’t believe what other people tell you…”
“As evidence by the lies you told me for years,” he said. “Your sister was an innocent victim. Somehow she survived even when no one tried to protect her. She survived after I threw her out and built a life for herself without any help. You have two nephews and niece. Are you aware of that?”
“Nephews? Niece?” Marilynn’s gaze widened. “You mean Ava…”
“That’s right. She had triplets after your little joke and she raised them all on her own,” Emerson said. “Their father is none other than Silas Prescott.”
“Silas…”
Her mind went back to that day. After successfully giving Ava the drug she wondered what to do next. She had been told it would lower her sister’s inhibitions and stimulate her sexual desires. Left alone Ava might find someone on her own to take to bed but Marilynn didn’t want to take any chances.
It was pure happenstance she met two college guys at the bar talking about their uptight friend. Offering them Ava was perfect for everyone to get what they wanted but if that was true than the uptight friend was…Silas.
For years she chased after him trying to seduce him but he never spared her a glance. If she had known he was the one waiting in that bedroom she never would have let Ava set foot in it. No she would have gone herself and finally netted a man worthy of her. The two friends could have taken their turns having fun with her sister for all she cared. Certainly Silas would be able to satisfy her needs better than anyone. But it was Ava who had been shown into the room, Ava who…
Triplets. Fathered by Silas.
Was that why he kept her at his side? Was she forcing him to marry her before giving him custody of the kids? It made sense. Marilynn would do the same thing. Perhaps her sister was cleverer than she gave her credit. But why wait ten years?
“I saw her tonight,” Emerson said, “she was having her first dinner date and she looked so happy. It’s amazing she could be that happy after everything she has been through. She’s stronger than I thought. And you are not even worthy to breathe the same air.”
Marilynn stiffened. If he had been at the restaurant he most likely saw her too. She wracked her brain. As far as she could remember she hadn’t done anything terribly embarrassing. Marilynn had been so upset at seeing Ava she didn’t even bully the wait staff like she normally did.
“Purse.”
“What?”
“Purse!”
Jerking at his angry tone she handed over her clutch. Without a word he opened it retrieving her credit cards. Standing he marched to the fireplace tossing them into the hungry flames.
“D-daddy, what are you doing?”
“Cutting you off,” he answered picking up a box next to the fire. One by one he took out items contained within tossing them into the flames starting with the strap-on she hadn’t been able to find.
“When did you…”
“I searched your room today,” he said throwing other devices into the fire: dildos, padded handcuffs, lingerie, among others.
Marilynn watched them melt and burn in the blaze staring at her father as if seeing him for the first time. Who was this man?
“I cancelled all your accounts. You’ll receive nothing from me.”
“W-what am I supposed to do?”
“You’ll figure it out. Your sister did. At least you don’t have three children to look after.” Emerson tossed the box into the fire with a disgusted expression. “And don’t go crying to your mother. She can’t help you. Now get out of my sight.”
Marilynn stood staring at him in disbelief, “What about the article?”
“Freedom of speech. Not much I can do if I wanted. If you don’t like your dirty secrets plastered everywhere you shouldn’t have tried to bury them. Nothing stays hidden forever.”
