Chapter 207 Chris’s visitation
Chapter 207 Chris’s visitation
~Lora’s POV~
The prison visiting room was colder than I expected. The walls were a dull, lifeless grey, and the air smelled like metal and cheap disinfectant. I sat on the hard plastic chair, my fingers gripping the edge of the small table. A thick glass wall separated me from the other side. My stomach had been twisting since I walked in.
I didn’t want to be here. But when the prison called and said Chris had been asking for me for days, something told me I should come. Maybe it was curiosity. Maybe it was fear. Either way, I was sitting here now.
The door on the other side opened, and two guards brought Chris in. He looked thinner. His face was pale, and the dark circles under his eyes made him look older than he was. But the moment he saw me, something sharp and knowing flickered in his gaze.
He sat down and picked up the phone. I did the same.
“You came,” he said. His voice was rough, like he hadn’t used it much.
“I almost didn’t,” I replied. “What do you want, Chris?”
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the small ledge between us. His eyes stayed locked on mine through the glass.
“I need to tell you something about Julian.”
My fingers tightened around the phone. I didn’t like the way he said Julian’s name.
“What about him?” I asked, keeping my voice steady.
Chris gave a small, bitter smile. “Julian isn’t who you think he is. He’s been lying to you this whole time.”
I frowned. “What are you talking about?”
Chris leaned in closer. His voice dropped lower. “He has the hotel photos. The ones Elena tried to use against Chard. Julian has them. He’s been holding on to them.”
A cold feeling crept up my spine.
Chris didn’t stop. “He replied to my message that night. The one I sent to your old number. He pretended to be you. That’s how he knew where to find me. That’s how he knew I was the one who attacked you.”
My blood ran cold.
I stared at him through the glass, trying to process what he was saying.
“You’re saying Julian pretended to be me?” I asked slowly.
Chris nodded. “He saw my face that night. The night I attacked you at the penthouse. When I ran down the stairs, he chased after me. The streetlight caught my face for a second. He recognized me. He knew it was me the whole time, Lora. And he never told Chard.”
I felt like the air had been sucked out of the room. My mind started spinning. I thought about all the times Julian had been around the way he looked at me, the way he confessed his feelings, and how he lied about not seeing the attacker’s face that night.
Chris kept going. “He’s been playing both sides. He wants what Chard has. The company. The power. Maybe even you. He’s been waiting for the right moment to use what he knows.”
I shook my head, trying to push the thoughts away. “That doesn’t make sense. Why would he do that?”
Chris gave a tired laugh. “Because he’s smart. Smarter than people give him credit for. He’s been collecting pieces the photos, the knowledge that I attacked you. And now he has leverage. He’s not your friend, Lora. He never was.”
I stared at him, my heart pounding hard against my ribs. My hands felt cold against the phone. I could feel my pulse in my fingertips.
Chris leaned back slightly, watching my reaction. “You don’t believe me.”
I swallowed hard. My voice came out quieter than I expected.
“You’re lying.”
Chris didn’t even blink.“Ask him yourself,” he replied.
