Chapter 70

The silvery beauty of the moonlight, which spilt over the lawn, stood in sharp contrast to the darkness that was consuming Roseline's thoughts. Her mind whirling with equal parts terror and resolve, she pushed a palm to her stomach. Ronaldo had surrounded her with a stronghold of authority, but now she had something to run for.

Her kid.

As she sat at the vanity, idly combing her hair, the first part of the idea occurred to her. Ronaldo often had to spend a lot of time away from the estate for business-related reasons. She would have to move quickly since his next trip was only a few days away.

However, how? Ronaldo's impact extended beyond the mansion's boundaries. He had a wide network and a great reach. Escaping would entail more than simply moving; it would entail being extinct.

Roseline recalled the love in Sam's eyes when he assured her that she wasn't alone. Would she be able to get him involved? Given the risk, would he even agree?

She was thinking when there was a knock on her door. As Vincent entered, she straightened, trying to seem composed.

Her heart was pounding, but she said steadily, "What is it?"

With inscrutable eyes, Vincent leaned against the door and gently closed it. With a quiet but confident tone, he added, "You're planning something."

Roseline's heartbeat accelerated, but she remained calm. "I have no idea what you're discussing."

He looked at her with a tilt of his head. Roseline, I've been observing you. You're not as adept at concealing things as you believe.

Her fury flared and she squirmed. "Get it over with if you're here to tell Ronaldo about me."

Vincent grinned, his face oddly free of ill intent. "I would have reported you days ago if I had wanted to."

Her breath caught. "So, what brings you here?"

He lowered his voice and took a step closer. "Because I believe you should have an opportunity to escape this pit of despair." However, you will want assistance if you decide to attempt.

Roseline gazed at him, a glimmer of hope against mistrust. Why would you lend me a hand? You have faith in Ronaldo.

"I'm faithful to the Ronaldo of old," Vincent said, his eyes becoming gloomy. Not the monster he has turned into. I can no longer tolerate what he has done to you after seeing it.

Vincent described the weaknesses in Ronaldo's security that she might take advantage of while they conversed in low voices. Vincent said, "He will be out of town for three days." "Your window is that. However, you'll need a place to go where he can't locate you.

Roseline paused. She had to give Sam the whole truth before dragging him into this. Nevertheless, the idea of dealing with this alone was intolerable.

She said, "I have someone who can assist."

Despite not pressing, Vincent arched an eyebrow. "Then you must act fast." Ronaldo will pursue you if he senses your absence. You will have to entirely vanish—change your identity and name.

She nodded despite the overwhelming weight of everything. "I'll take whatever necessary action."

With shaky hands, Roseline poured her heart out onto the page of the letter she penned to Sam that night after sneaking into her bed. She informed him about the baby, the dangers involved, and her intention to go.

It read, "I need you." However, if this is too much to ask, I can understand. Tomorrow, I'll drop the note off at the café. Please meet me near the fountain at midnight if you are prepared to assist.

She decided to deliver the letter covertly on her stroll the next day, so she folded it and put it in her coat pocket.

The next day Roseline strolled as nonchalantly as she could to the café. She placed the note on the ledge, where Sam would recognise it—under the rim of a little flowerpot.

However, she saw a person across the street as she turned to go. Ronaldo's driver, staring at her icily.

Her stomach fell. Her thoughts were racing as she rushed back to the mansion. Did he see her dropping off the letter? Was Ronaldo suspicious enough to pursue her already?

She was getting ready for bed that night when Ronaldo unexpectedly walked into her room. His sharp eyes were staring into hers as he leaned against the doorframe.

His tone was deceptively light as he continued, "You appeared restless today."

Roseline said in a steady tone, "I went for a stroll."

“By yourself?”

With her pulse racing, she lied and said, "Yes."

Ronaldo's eyes did not meet his grin. "All right. It would be awful if you were... hiding stuff from me.

The meeting left Roseline disturbed, but he departed without saying anything more. She had a nagging notion that he was getting closer every day, and she couldn't get rid of it.

Roseline was standing by the garden fountain at midnight, her breath out in the cold air. Pulling her cloak firmly about her, she strained to hear anything.

Minutes passed, and as uncertainty started to set in, she saw a person appear out of the darkness. Sam.

With a wave of relief, she muttered, "You arrived."

With a forceful voice, he said, "I'll always come for you." "What is the strategy?"

The sound of footsteps behind them stopped her before she could respond. She looked at Vincent, who had a sombre face.

"Time is running out," he whispered "You don't realise how much Ronaldo knows."

Another man emerged from the shadows, Ronaldo himself, his steely, ruthless grin.

"You're correct, Vincent," Ronaldo remarked in a venomous voice. "She doesn't realize how much I know."
