Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Mason POV
The day is finally here. The day that I promise to love Emily for the rest of my life. If you told me a few years ago that I would willingly marry someone, I would have laughed at them.
Today is also bittersweet for me. I contacted Jason a few weeks ago to be my best man, but he never replied. I wanted my brother next to me on this important day. That is why Em and I decided not to have a bridal party.
I see Madi standing at the door. She had on this super cute mini-wedding dress. Her hair had a white flower crown on it. As soon as the wedding march began, Madi walked towards us. She kept throwing the pedals. I had a big smile on my face.
Madi stopped at the end of the aisle and looked in her basket, confused. She decided to dump the whole basket of rose petals out. She looks up at me. Her satisfaction were written on her face. The church giggled at her. I didn't know if I should be embarrassed or proud.
The atmosphere changed as soon as I saw Emily at the door. The whole church went silent while staring at the bride.
James stood next to her. They move down the aisle to the beat of the music. I honestly wish I could fast-forward the wedding march.
I take the time to shamelessly stare at my wife-to-be. No one will even notice. Em looks stunning in her white dress. The dress is tight in all the right places. The neck is low and leaves just enough for the imagination. I can't wait to have Emily to myself later tonight. I am thankful for my mother taking Madi for the evening.
After the longest few minutes of my life, Emily is in front of me. I sigh with relief. I sometimes began to doubt whether we would stand here. The doubt was eating her alive the last few weeks.
I walk down the stairs to meet James and Emily. James places Emily's hand in mine.
"Who gives the young lady away?" The pastor's voice sounded behind me.
"I do," James answered the pastor. He then turned to me. "Look after her." I nod my head. I don't believe anyone else heard him.
I help Emily up the stairs. I get lost in Emily's eyes. I didn't hear a word that the pastor said. At that moment, it was just me and Em.
Em taps my hand to get my attention. She smiles at me and it takes me a moment to register what is going on around me. I look at the official and he looks at me expectantly. It is time to give my vows.
"Em, our relationship started in the most unorthodox way. Yes, we did things backwards, but I wouldn't want to redo anything if I could. Well, maybe my reactions. I'm not going to stand here and make empty promises to you. We all know that a week after the wedding we are going to fight because I did something stupid. All I can promise you is that I will love you from now until eternity." I wipe the tears that run freely down her cheek, before putting the ring on her finger.
"Mason before I start I have a little present for you." Em lures Madi closer. She has a long wooden box in her hands. She holds the box out to me and I take it from her. My child shines. She stood before me bouncing on her feet waiting for me to open the box.
I open it and there is a pregnancy test inside. I pick it up with shaky fingers. I slowly look up at Em, hoping that what I see is true. I think she can read the questions in my eyes because she nods her head slowly. It's as if she waits for my reaction before she gets happy herself. It takes me a while for reality to sink in. I go to pick her up in joy, but she puts her hand on my chest to stop me.
"It's my turn to give you my vows. I promise to be the best woman and mom I can be. I promise to wake you up with every craving I get. I promise to make sure you are at your best for every Milestone. I promise to discuss every misunderstanding that dives with you before I jump to conclusions. And lastly, I promise to love you until my last breath. "
The tears run down our cheeks. I don't believe she realizes how much her words mean to me. I feel so much guilt because I wasn't there with Madi.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."
I draw Em closer and kiss her. Our kiss depended and it took everything in me to take the necessary step back. I lean closer and whisper in her ear.
"Maybe we have to wait for our honeymoon to start." Em gives a shy laugh before we turn around and look at our guests.
We made our way to the reception area together. We booked the ballroom of one of our best hotels in the city. I wanted to give Em everything that she ever dreamed of. I know she had a big fairytale wedding once before, but I know this will be my only, and her last, wedding.
Our families made our way to the hotel garden for the pictures. It took us nearly two hours to get all the pictures taken that Em wanted. I didn't mind. As long as my wife is happy. My wife, I will never get tired of saying that.
