Chapter 44
Chapter 44
Emily POV
I arrived back in Londen just after three in the afternoon. It is just the way I remember it. The old sky-high building brings back so many memories. Good and bad.
I made my way directly to Mason's apartment. I feel nervous. I feel the sweat starting to pool underneath my hands.
Madi was walking next to me while I made my way to the front door. I knocked once.
Mason came barreling out of the door. He looks around franticly. He stopped dead in his tracks when his eyes land on me. The relief in his eyes almost made me laugh.
He still looked so handsome. He hasn't changed one bit. I can see the stumble on his face and that just added to his charm. My heart nearly leapt out of my chest when his eyes kept jumping from my eyes to my lips. It looks like he is contemplating kissing me. I actually wished that he would.
Madi ran towards Mason yelling ' Daddy'. She hugs his legs. Mason looks down at Madi. The tears flow down his face. My heart is slowly starting to break. I cannot believe that I deprived this wonderful father of his daughter.
He bows down and picked her up. The sobs were now racking his whole body. He grabs my hand and pulls me closer.
"I am so glad you are back."
"We first need to sort out a few things before I decide if I am back for good."
Mason looks at me like I grew an extra head. I decided on the way here that I won't keep him away from Madi, but he first has to earn my trust before I let him back into my life again.
"Let's go sit down. I think we have a lot to talk about."
Mason took our hands and led us towards the kitchen. Jesieka is in the kitchen making what looks like dinner. I missed her food in the last five years I was away.
She looked up from what she was doing. Jesieka's face morphed into a big smile once she saw me standing next to Mason. Her eyes travelled to Madi, and her eyes began to sparkle with unshed tears.
For the first time, I actually realize, that I deprived Madi of so much love. For the past five years, she only had me as family.
"Jesieka, would you please watch over Madi? Emily and I have some things we need to discuss." Jesieka nods and came forward to take Madi's hand. Madi looks at me as if asking my permission. I nod at Madi. She takes Jesieka's hand and together they made their way back into the kitchen.
"You know she is in good hands." He whispers so only I can hear him. I look at him, and he gives me a reassuring smile.
"I know. Jesieka has always loved Madi like she was her own."
Mason took my hand once again and led me towards his office.
We walk into his office together. Nothing has changed in the five years I've been gone.
I walk around the room while Mason makes himself comfortable on the couch.
My eye falls on two new photos that are on his bookshelf.
The first one was where Madi and I were laying on the couch and sleeping. I remember that day. It's one of the many weekends we spent together in the park. I was so tired that I fell asleep halfway through the movie. I was never that he even had the picture.
I put it down and pick up the next one.
It's a picture of Mason and a woman I've never seen before. There is a jealousy that wells up in me that I don't know where it came from.
There is a little girl standing in front of them. I can see that this is a younger version of Mason.
I put the photo down before I get angry all over again. Does Mason have another child out there that I don't know about?
I turn to see Mason watching me closely.
"The photo was taken about three years ago. It's my mother and my sister." The jealousy subsides and I can't believe I'm jumping to conclusions again.
"I thought your mother left when you were little."
"It is true, but that is a story for another time. First, we have other things that we need to sort out."
"let's start at the beginning. I will talk and then you can talk. I just want you to let me finish talking okay?"
Once I am sure that Mason will not interrupt me I start talking about my side of the story. I told him about everything that I felt when I found the letter. I told him that Jason helped me get away. I even told him about everything that happened after I left up until I called him yesterday. He just sat there listening to me. I was silent for a few seconds and that is his queue to talk.
"To be honest I was going to tell you about that file. In the five years that you were gone, I had a lot of things to think about. I realized that I would have burned that file in front of you. After you left I realized that I had too much baggage. That is when I started to look for my mother. I knew I couldn't make things right with you before I fixed myself. I have been going to therapy for the past five years."
We chatted more until we gave up since I was starting to fall asleep in the chair. Mason offered me my room.
I accepted since I had no place to sleep tonight.
Jesieka told me that Madi was already fed and put to bed.
I walked to our old rooms. Was struck me is that Madi's room is also the same. The only difference was that he updated the bed.
My room also didn't change. He left everything the way we left it.
