Chapter 41

Chapter 41
Emily POV

Madi's fifth birthday is coming up. I still feel guilty about every birthday, that she spends away from the family.

When I stopped in Nevada five years ago, Madi and I found a community where we fit in.

I lived in the motel for a week before Miss Jenifer took it upon herself to help me find a job.

I finally found a job at a small little bistro just off the highway. Miss Jenifer and her husband were the owners. They were big on family so when she heard about Madi, she offered to look after Madi. She looked after her daughter's children too.

Miss Jenifer and I became quite close. So close, in fact, that I told her why I was there. It was a good thing since Jason came to look for me.

I was there for two years. I was starting to believe that I was home free. I had a wonderful life, but I had to run. I had no guarantee that he won't come back. I know there is no reason for me to run from Jason, but the last time we spoke he really did scare me.

I know that is not good for me to run, but what else am I going to do.

I haven't even spoken to my brother in five years. Yes, he didn't do anything, but I do not know what Jason told him. If I make contact with James he will tell Jason where I am.

Today I have an off day. It is my first one in six months. My phone's notifications go off. I pick it up and see that there is a google alert for Mason.

I have a google alert for a few things. One is for my name and the other is for Mason.

I keep my eye on Mason since my feelings have not changed towards him. The anger has subsided, but the love has not.

In the past five years, I have never seen another woman on his arm. There were a few rumours, but he always stopped them before they went too far.

I went to sit in front of the TV. The google alert is for an interview.

Madi was playing with her barbie.

Mason came on. As soon as Madi heard her father's voice she screamed.

"Look, mommy, it's daddy."

That is the one thing that I did right. I always made sure Madi knew who her father was.

She came running towards me. Together we sat and watch Mason.

It was just a normal boring interview. Mason was talking about a new project that he started.

"Mason, do you have a special person in your life?" This question caught my attention.

"Yes, I actually do. She is the love of my life. Her name is Em and that is all that I will disclose. " My heart started to beat faster. There is no way that he could have known that I will be watching this interview.

"Why haven't we met her yet?"

"She isn't big on media coverage. She likes to live a normal life with our daughter." There is sadness in his voice and it breaks my heart.

"Wow, you have a daughter. Why don't we know about her? How old is she?"

"Yes, I do have a daughter. She is turning five this year." I switch off the TV. This interview completely threw me.

Mason POV

She has been missing for five years. Five years that I have been looking for her no stop.

James came to me three years ago and told me that they were responsible for Em disappearing.

He told me that Jason paid for everything.

I called Jason immediately ad then he told me that he lost Em. How the hell do you lose someone. I figured that he was hiding something from me, but I don't have the time to figure it out.

Today I have an interview with one of the top journalists in the country.

This is major for the new project. We are building a new hotel in South Africa. I started the project just after I met Em. I continued because I was hoping that she would be able to spend more time with her family once it is finished.

I sat in the chair answering all the questions that she asked me.

"Mason, do you have a special person in your life?" I knew this question will be coming. I usually ask the journalist not to ask personal questions, but there have been too many rumours about my love life.

"Yes, I actually do. She is the love of my life. Her name is Em and that is all that I will disclose. " In my heart, I was hoping that Emily is watching out there.

"Why haven't we met her yet?"

"She isn't big on media coverage. She likes to live a normal life with our daughter." Well, it is true in a way. She will perhaps never be in the limelight.

"Wow, you have a daughter. Why don't we know about her? How old is she?"

"Yes, I do have a daughter. She is turning five this year." Just thinking about my daughter makes my heart hurt. There are so many things that I have missed in her life.

Her first word, her first step. All her first.
