Chapter 168 What Goes Around Comes Around

Chapter 168 What Goes Around Comes Around

Sophia reacted swiftly, sidestepping to avoid his bandaged hand reaching out toward her, her disgust reaching its peak, "Don't touch me!"

She refused to look at his pale face or desperate expression, resolutely pulling open the hospital room door and walking out.

However, as soon as she stepped out of the room and looked up, she found herself staring into a pair of eyes filled with hatred and venom.

Clara stood just outside the door, clearly having been there for some time, having overheard every word of her conversation with Oliver.

Her face was ashen, her carefully applied makeup unable to hide the twisted jealousy and resentment, her nails digging deep into her palms.

Sophia looked at this pathetic display with complete indifference, finding it utterly ironic.

She stopped and looked at Clara, her lips curling into a cold smile, her voice quiet but crystal clear, "Did you hear that? This is the man you schemed so desperately to steal."

"Now he's personally telling me he regrets it, that he loves me."

"Clara, tell me—isn't this what they call... karma?"

Sophia's mocking tone instantly ignited all of Clara's suppressed fury and resentment.

The color drained from her face instantly, replaced by a pale hue.

Her carefully maintained facade of vulnerability was shattered completely, revealing the hideous truth beneath.

"Sophia! What did you just say?" Clara shrieked, her voice distorted with rage, "What are you so smug about? You think you've won? Henry's just playing with you for novelty! A woman Oliver abandoned—you actually think you can marry into the Windsor family?"

Sophia stopped and slowly turned around, her expression calm as if watching a poorly performed show.

She looked Clara up and down, taking in her chest rising and falling with anger and her eyes that seemed ready to shoot fire, and revealed a mocking smile."I'm smug?" Sophia let out a cold laugh, completely devoid of warmth, "Do I need to remind you, Clara? Who was it that couldn't wait to crawl into his bed while I was still Oliver's legal wife? Who stood before me, gloating about your so-called true love, calling me the extra one?"

She stepped closer, and despite being similar in height, her presence completely overwhelmed Clara, "Who repeatedly used underhanded tactics behind my back, slandering me, scheming against me? And who thought after Oliver and I divorced that you'd finally gotten what you wanted and become his wife?"

Clara was forced back half a step by this barrage of accusations, her lips trembling as she found no words to refute.

Sophia looked at this pitiful display with more pity than disgust, but her words remained cutting.

"Now, the man you schemed so hard to steal is lying in that hospital bed, telling me personally that he regrets it, that he's always loved me. And you're like a rat hiding in the shadows, reduced to eavesdropping outside doors."

"Ahhhh—shut up! Sophia, you bitch! You shameless..." Clara completely snapped, losing all reason, screaming as she lunged forward, apparently trying to claw at Sophia's infuriatingly calm face.

But Sophia gracefully sidestepped as Clara rushed forward, letting her stumble and nearly fall.

"Save your energy," Sophia straightened her perfectly neat clothing, her tone indifferent. "What's the point of going crazy at me? If you're capable, go make the man in there change his mind."

She watched Clara's pathetic figure, delivering one final blow.

"But I don't think you'll get that chance. Enjoy everything you fought so hard for."

With that, she didn't spare Clara another glance, straightening her spine and walking away with composed, decisive steps that disappeared down the corridor.

The sound of her heels clicking against the floor was crisp and sharp, each step seeming to pierce Clara's heart.

Clara stood frozen, trembling all over, tears streaming down her face, mixed with unwillingness and resentment.

She suddenly spun around, threw open the hospital room door, and rushed inside.

Oliver had just experienced an emotional rollercoaster and was lying exhausted with his eyes closed.

Hearing the commotion, he opened his eyes to see the seemingly deranged Clara, his brow immediately furrowing in disgust.

"Oliver! Everything you just told Sophia was a lie, right? You were just trying to upset me, right?" Clara threw herself beside the bed, grabbing Oliver's arm and desperately questioning him, tears streaming down her face.

Oliver forcefully shook off her hand, the movement aggravating his injuries and making him hiss in pain, but his gaze remained ice-cold.

Looking at Clara, he no longer held even the slightest trace of his former tenderness—only naked annoyance and post-awakening coldness.

"Every word I said was true."

Oliver's voice was weak but carried undeniable certainty, "Clara, I regret everything. I've been in love with Sophia for a long time, but I was foolish, blinded by your nonsense about pursuing freedom and rebelling against constraints. I failed to see my own heart clearly."

He paused, looking at Clara's instantly pale face, and continued, "Our engagement is off. I'll provide you with enough financial compensation to live comfortably for the rest of your life—consider it my final obligation to you. From now on, we have no relationship whatsoever. Don't appear before me again."

Clara looked as if she'd heard the most ridiculous thing in the world. She began laughing maniacally, her laughter shrill and desperate, "Oliver! For you, I betrayed the only friend who ever helped me. I schemed and plotted, sacrificing everything, and now you tell me we have no relationship? What do you take me for?"

"You chose this path yourself," Oliver closed his eyes, unwilling to look at her anymore. "You can't blame anyone else."

Clara stared at his cold profile, her last shred of hope completely extinguished.

She collapsed to the floor, sobbing hysterically. All her schemes, all her ambitions had become nothing but a joke in this moment.

She had lost completely, and her last bit of dignity had been trampled to pieces by Oliver and Sophia together.

As Sophia walked out of the hospital, the afternoon sunlight was somewhat blinding. She squinted slightly and was about to call for a ride on her phone.

Looking up, she immediately spotted that all-too-familiar black Maybach parked quietly across the street.
