S2- Whose Fault?

S2- Whose Fault?
But, the butler warning came too late. The sharp blade plunged mercilessly into the old master's abdomen.

"You old bastard," Astrid sneered, her voice dripping with venom. "Three years ago, you promised me that if I got rid of Senna, I would marry into the Voss family as the young madam. But you went back on your word-I tolerated it. And now, when Magnus's people are hunting me down, you want to cut ties with me? Since I'm doomed anyway, I'll take you down with me. HAHAHA!"

"Old Master!"

Blood spurted out as Astrid pulled out the knife. The butler's face turned ashen with terror. Without hesitation, he raised his gun.

Bang!

The gunshot rang out.

Astrid's crazed laughter was abruptly silenced. A bullet pierced her forehead. Her wide, crazed eyes froze in place as her body collapsed to the ground, lifeless, her expression frozen in disbelief.

"Old Master, are you alright? Someone call for help! The old master is injured! Prepare a car-we need to get him to the hospital!" The butler rushed forward, catching the old master as his face turned deathly pale, as if he had aged a decade in mere moments. His urgent cries filled the air.

The Voss estate descended into utter chaos.

Senna still hadn't come out of the operating room. Magnus stood guard at the door without moving an inch, his bloodshot eyes fixed on the glowing surgery light. He wanted it to go out, yet he was afraid of what that might mean. He struggled in the torment of his own contradictions.

What was meant to come would inevitably arrive.

The moment the surgery light went off, Magnus held his breath, grasped the attending doctor's hand, and asked anxiously, "Doctor, how is my wife?"

"Mr. Voss, rest assured, the patient's condition has stabilized. Both mother and child are safe. However, her body is extremely weak. If you want to keep the baby, you must take extra care of her from now on," the doctor reminded him solemnly.

"Thank you, doctor. I will take good care of her and make sure nothing happens again." The moment he heard that both mother and child were safe, the heavy weight in Magnus's heart finally lifted. Seeing how much blood she had lost had nearly stopped his heart with fear.

The nurses transferred Senna to a VIP ward, and Magnus followed every step of the way. He held her hand tightly, his heart aching as he looked at her pale face, completely devoid of color.

Still unconscious, Senna lay motionless as he sat beside her, gripping her hand tightly. His eyes grew misty. "Senna, can you hear me? You and the baby are safe now. I'm sorry... I keep hurting you. If I hadn't gotten involved with you, maybe they wouldn't have targeted you. It was my negligence. I'm sorry..."

"Mr. Voss." Edric knocked lightly on the door, his voice filled with urgency. "Mr. Voss..."

"Shh." Even though he knew no amount of noise would wake Senna, Magnus still anxiously hushed him.

Edric had no choice but to step closer and lower his voice. "Mr. Voss, the Old Master has been injured. Astrid stabbed him with a dagger. The butler said it's serious-he lost a lot of blood and is in critical condition."

"What?" Magnus stood up abruptly, stunned. He quickly tucked the blanket around Senna and ordered people to guard the ward before rushing toward the emergency room.

"Young Master, you're here." The butler burst into tears upon seeing him, unable to speak clearly through his sobs. "Young Master, I failed the Old Master... It was my negligence that led to his injury. I deserve to die."

Edric had already briefed him on what had happened on the way. Magnus glanced worriedly at the emergency room, then sighed. "Butler, this isn't your fault. Don't blame yourself."

"No, it's not just the Old Master I failed-I failed the Second Young Master too. As the Voss family's butler, I watched you both grow up. The Old Master entrusted you two to me so I could take care of you. But I didn't even realize that the Second Young Master had depression. It's my fault... I killed him..." The butler pounded his chest in grief.

"What did you say? Matthias had depression?" Magnus was thunderstruck. Though they were brothers, their personalities couldn't have been more different.

The Old Master had placed all his hopes on him, and he was always buried in work, never having the time to bond with his brother. He had always assumed Matthias was nothing more than a frivolous troublemaker. He had never imagined that beneath his carefree exterior, he carried the weight of depression.

"Before she died, Astrid revealed the truth about Matthias's death. He couldn't see a way out and took his own life. The Second Young Master died such an unjust death," the butler said, grief-stricken.

"Matthias... It's my fault. I was too consumed with work to spend time with him. I didn't even realize what he was going through." Magnus closed his eyes, pained.

"This isn't your fault. The Old Master was determined to shape you into the perfect heir. How could you have had time for him?" the butler said sadly.

"How is the Old Master now?" Magnus opened his eyes, his voice hoarse and heavy with pain.

"The doctor said he lost too much blood..."

Too much had happened in a single day. Magnus leaned against the wall, exhaustion and worry etched across his chiseled face.
