Chapter 96 I'm Coming for You
DAVID
I gripped the man’s shoulder tightly, my voice low but steady. “No one’s going to kill your son. I won’t let that happen.”
He shifted uncomfortably under my hand, his gaze darting to the floor. “You don’t understand.” His voice cracked. “The people I’m talking about…they’re powerful. They own this city.”
“Powerful?” I scoffed, letting out a sharp breath. “What if I take your son out of that prison and return him to you? Safe and sound. Just tell me who they are.”
He hesitated, his lips trembling as though he was weighing the odds. “What if you’re too late? What if they’ve already…” His voice broke, fear pooling in his eyes.
I straightened, my jaw tightening. “I am David Copperfield.” The name hung heavy between us, and the room seemed to shrink. “The most feared man in this city. I destroy whoever stands in my way. Your son will walk out of that prison but you need to tell me their names.”
His fear didn’t vanish, but it dulled enough for him to nod. “His name…his name is Eden.”
The name hit me like a cold slap. I stepped back, my chest tightening as memories surged forward. Eden. His voice echoed in my head: “I’ll be gone, but my men will come for you. They’ll tear you apart.” He hadn’t been bluffing. He was already playing the game.
“Can you still save him?” the man asked, his desperation slicing through my thoughts.
I smirked faintly, though my mind burned. “Yes. I can.”
But saving him wasn’t the only thing on my mind. Eden wasn’t just my brother he was my enemy. And this wasn’t about mercy. It was about dismantling everything he stood for.
Janet, who had been leaning against the wall silently, finally stepped forward. “We can’t rush this,” she said, her tone clipped, professional. “If we go in too fast, Eden will kill the boy just to send a message.”
I glanced at her, nodding slightly. She was right Eden was unpredictable, dangerous.
“What exactly is your son accused of?” I asked, shifting my focus back to the man.
“They said…they said he killed his girlfriend,” he stammered. His voice cracked as he added, “But it’s not true. My son could never do something like that. He loved her.”
“Did you hire a lawyer?”
“I did.” He nodded quickly, his face contorting with anger. “But even after my son pleaded guilty, they showed him no mercy. Life imprisonment. Just like that.”
Something didn’t add up. Janet caught my eye, her brow furrowing.
“I later confronted the lawyer,” the man continued, his voice rising. “He sent a gang to beat me up. Then he sent me a video…a video of my son being beaten in prison.” His voice broke, his fists clenching. “The same lawyer who was supposed to defend him.”
My chest tightened. It was all too clear now. Eden had orchestrated the entire thing the girl’s death, the false charges, the conviction. This wasn’t just a plan. It was a declaration of war.
“Don’t worry,” I said, my voice a growl. “Your son will walk free. I’ll make sure of it.”
The man’s eyes filled with cautious hope. “Do you know the lawyer?”
I smiled coldly. “Desmond Stefan. Of course, I know him.”
Janet crossed her arms. “When do we start?”
“Now.”
Janet smirked. “Good. I’ve been itching for a fight.”
I turned to the man. “Go back to your shop. They’ll come for you, but you need to play dumb. Say you didn’t tell me anything.” I handed him a tape. “This will help. It’s a recording of me saying you are innocent and should be released.
“They’ll think I’m an idiot who doesn’t know Eden’s pulling the strings.”
The man hesitated, gripping the tape like it was his lifeline. “What if they…”
“They won’t touch you,” I cut him off. “Not while I’m watching.”
Janet laughed softly. “Let’s go hunting,” she said, her eyes gleaming.
I nodded, my fists curling at my sides. “Eden,” I muttered under my breath. “Your game ends now.”
