Amazed too
Hera POV

Looking back, I sigh with contend, grab my phone and send a quick message to Zeus.

I pocket the phone and slide behind the wheel igniting the car.

Ghost and Shadow take the back passenger seats. The drive back to Chicago feels stretchy.

I think back to what I just did. Killing Finn felt right in the moment, like closing a door after years of nightmares. But now? Driving away, it leaves me asking myself,Who am I becoming? The woman who buries men alive? I have to be honest, It scares me a little, but I would do it again without blinking for my family.

We drive back partly in silence and partly Shadow teasing Ghost occasionally.

When the clear sky of Chicago greets us,

I drop them at the Shadow Riders clubhouse.

"Thanks for the ride, MG. We owe you one." His eyes say more, gratitude, maybe respect, mixed with that shared shadow of what we did.

“ I should be the one thanking you. You've done a good job.” I reply.

“ It was a pleasure working alongside you. Now I understand why you've managed to keep killer angels' reputation so high while being low-key.” He says.

I smile and give him a simple nod.

When they disappear to the clubhouse, I reverse the car and pull off, heading to my house.

I feel dirty from everything I did back there and I can't see Lily with all that grim.

It doesn't take long to pull outside my house. I kill the engine and head to the house.

“When I push the door open, I am greeted by the sight of Chloe and zero practically eating each other on the sofa.

They don't pull away maybe because they don't even hear the door opening.

“ Eeew, that's gross.” I say, face scrunched.

They pull away immediately and Chloe gives me a grin.

“ The house has rooms which you can use for whatever you are doing here.” I say, faking disgust.

“ You can blame him Chloe says pointing at zero he can't seem to keep his hands off me she adds giggling with mischief.

“ That's because I can't seem to get enough of you.” Zero replies shamelessly. I find myself shaking my head in defeat.

These two seem to always have an answer to everything you say.

“ I came to see if you are feeling better but I see I shouldn't waste my concern.”I say, giving Chloe a smile.

After she was rescued by Zeus and his team I instructed her to come home and rest even when she insisted that she wanted to help me and Mason get Lily back.

“ I am fine, Hera, thank you for caring.”

“ Want to ask how I am?” Zero asks, the pout on his face making him look silly.

I can't help but chuckle.

“Why should I? I can see that you are fine. Besides, you have your woman to worry about you.” I retort.

“That's not fair. I am the one who fought those bastards and held them back until that stupid cop arrived. I almost thought that I'd die without seeing my woman one last time.” He explains.

“ Don't utter such words. You wouldn't die without my permission.” Chloe retorts almost immediately.

“ I knew you would be able to pull off the operation, that's why I agreed with your plan. If I wasn't sure that you could come back alive, I wouldn't have let you go all by yourself.” I inform him. Zero smiles proudly.

“ Since you are both fine, I'll leave you to continue with your thing.” I announce and head upstairs.

Inside my room, I strip my clothes and make my way to the bathroom. As the warm water cascades down my body, I feel relief washes over me. Relief that everything is finally over and my family is free from Finn's schemes.

I look back to the day I met Mason, how he managed to win my heart and the struggles we have gone through over the year. I smile at the days filled with happiness we have had, the explosive night we have spent together can't I realize one thing, this is life.

They say that life is not a straight line. Some days will be bad, some days will be good.

Some will be filled with happiness, some will be filled with sadness and that is what makes one look forward to the next day.

After I am done cleaning up, I head to the wardrobe.

I am about to pull my usual jeans when I spot a blue dress. The dress was a birthday gift that Chloe got me.

I never got the chance to wear it, not like I am a fan of dresses.

Taking it, I run my hands through the soft fabric.

Five minutes later, I head downstairs.

Zero and Chloe are still in the sitting room but this time, sipping their drinks.

“ Isn't it too early for such strong drinks?” I ask with raised brows.

“ You seem to have an opinion about everything today, Hera.” Chloe notes. I give her the middle finger and leave the house.

Since Mason and I are practically neighbours, I decide to take a walk to his house. Minutes later, I am already at his premise. I am about to enter the house when I spot Nyx and Lily playing on the floor. Nyx draws something and passes the paper to Lily who breaks into a wide grin.

Seeing her smile, a picture so different from who she was last night, I can't help but feel my heart dwelling with happiness.

It seems like I made a food decision having Nyx accompany Lily as I ran my errands.

“ I never knew Nyx was so good with children.” Mason's voice sounds from behind me. I turn around to see him staring at the duo with a smile on his face.

Just like Lily, this is the first genuine smile I have seen from him since Helena took the little angel.

“ Yeah. I am amazed too.”
