Chapter 212 Stupid Driver
Chapter 212 Stupid Driver
Cecilia consoled herself with self-deception for a bit. When employees came over to toast her, she cheerfully accepted every drink with a smile.
In the end, she got really drunk, and Damon had to carry her out of the car.
However, when they reached the front door of the villa, she refused to go inside no matter what. Damon had no choice but to carry her on his back and walk around the residential complex.
She heard Damon talking about the past, and in her drunken haze, she actually revealed her true feelings.
"I'm sorry, Damon. I have someone I like. I've always seen you as a good friend and good partner. That was true before, and it's still true now."
"I understand. You don't need to apologize. I should thank you for being so honest with me. From now on, I'll also just see you as a good friend and good partner!"
The next day, Cecilia was woken up by the harsh ringing of her phone.
Ever since Ethan couldn't find her that one time, she'd made sure to charge her phone before bed and wouldn't turn it off unless there was a special reason.
The hangover made her head throb painfully. She forced herself through the discomfort to pick up her phone and check it, discovering it was a call from Ethan.
She hesitated for a moment, but eventually pressed answer.
"Why did it take you so long to pick up?" Ethan's first words were an accusation.
"I was still sleeping!" Cecilia replied flatly.
Ethan fell silent for a few seconds after hearing this, then asked, "Are you unhappy to get my call?"
"No!"
"If you're unhappy, you can say it. You don't need to say one thing and mean another with me!" Ethan's voice was clearly somewhat stiff.
Cecilia was already feeling unwell, and combined with Ethan's coldness these past few days, her tone carried a hint of resentment. "For a stupid person like me, saying one thing and meaning another is better than saying too much and making more mistakes."
After she finished speaking, she heard Ethan snort coldly, then say mockingly, "You really should reflect on yourself, or there's no hope for you!"
"I'm a divorced woman. If there's no hope, then there's no hope. You can go find smart people, people who are happy to answer your calls—"
Before Cecilia could finish, Ethan ruthlessly hung up the phone.
She stared at the phone screen, taking quite a while to realize what she'd just said.
Instantly, anger, regret, anxiety and other emotions flooded her heart.
She really was stupid. Regardless of whether she and Ethan would end up together, there was no need to make things so tense over a moment of verbal satisfaction. After all, Vertex Holdings Group and Apex Ventures Corporation still had several years of cooperation to complete.
Their relationship was already unclear. That being the case, why should she hope for too much? Wasn't that just asking for trouble?
The favoritism and exclusivity she wanted, Ethan couldn't give. The matching status and family support Ethan wanted, she couldn't provide either.
Everyone said they weren't right for each other.
They really weren't right for each other. If they forced themselves to be together, the only one who would end up hurt was herself.
Cecilia leaned against the headboard thinking about many things, until Seraphina came upstairs to call her for a meal, and only then did she get up to wash up.
Seeing the abundant breakfast on the table, she felt somewhat guilty.
She had brought her parents back to make it easier to take care of them, but in reality it had turned out the opposite—her parents were taking care of her.
"Cecilia, tomorrow's a day off. Call Damon over to eat with us. He's all alone here without any family!"
Seraphina suggested. Cecilia could only agree, but she proposed adding one more person. "Helen is also alone in River City. I'll call her too."
The next day, Damon came in carrying bags full of things, and everyone gathered around him to see what he'd bought.
Cecilia stood to the side watching the lively group of people, and suddenly thought of Ethan.
With his aloof personality, he probably wouldn't care for this kind of atmosphere at all.
They lived in completely different worlds. No wonder so many people said they weren't right for each other.
Just then, the phone in Cecilia's pocket rang. She took it out to look, and it was actually Ethan.
Nathan saw her standing there in a daze, his eyes examining her. "Why aren't you answering?"
Cecilia came back to her senses and answered the call in front of her family.
Ethan's domineering voice immediately came through the receiver. "I'm at the airport. Come pick me up!"
Cecilia rolled her eyes in exasperation. Was she his driver? Didn't he have an assistant?
She spoke flatly to refuse. "I can't come. I have guests at home, I can't leave—"
Before she could finish, Ethan cut off the call directly.
Cecilia was so angry she cursed him in her mind. Just as she was about to put the phone back in her pocket, she heard it make a sound—a new message had come in.
She clicked to check and found it was a photo of Damon standing at the door carrying things, with a line of text below: [Is this the guest? Is he so important that you can't even leave the house?]
Seeing the image, Cecilia was furious. Ethan actually had access to her home's surveillance video too?
What right did he have to spy on her home?
She'd always thought Ethan was just domineering, but today she fully understood—he wasn't just domineering, he was tyrannical, dictatorial, and unreasonable.
[What exactly do you want?] Cecilia quickly typed and sent.
Ethan replied almost instantly: [Come pick me up!]
Just that short sentence carried an unquestionable command.
Cecilia had no doubt that if she refused, he would definitely show up at her doorstep within an hour.
Although she and Damon had already cleared things up, her parents didn't know yet. If Ethan made a scene at the door, it would only embarrass both sides.
Before she could reply, Nathan looked over and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
Cecilia immediately forced a bitter smile. "Dad, I have something to take care of. I need to go out!"
After speaking, she quickly ran upstairs to change clothes, then left before everyone could react.
It wasn't until she was sitting in the car that Cecilia realized how pathetically humble her current behavior was.
With just one word from Ethan, she had abandoned her family without a second thought and rushed to him.
Cecilia sat in the car calming herself for quite a while before reluctantly driving to the airport.
She consoled herself that avoiding him wasn't a way to solve the problem. Some things needed to be said face to face.
She soon arrived at the airport. Cecilia called, but Ethan didn't answer. Instead, he strode toward her, put away his luggage on his own, then got in the passenger seat.
She glanced at the cold Ethan. His tall frame was cramped in the small passenger seat, looking somewhat uncomfortable.
Ethan didn't speak, and Cecilia didn't want to embarrass herself either. After he got in, she drove away from the airport.
She really didn't know where to take Ethan, so she chose to drive toward Golden Haven.
Suddenly, Ethan spoke up. "You want to invite me to your house for dinner?"
Cecilia turned to look at him and replied defiantly, "I don't know where your house is."
Hearing this, Ethan directly ground out through clenched teeth, "Stupid driver!"
Cecilia's anger instantly ignited. She sharply turned the steering wheel and smoothly pulled the car over to the side of the road, then shot back without courtesy, "If you think I'm stupid, then don't ride in my car!"
Ethan actually opened the car door and got out, then slammed the door shut with force.
