The pathetic ex

Thinking back now, and seeing how Lisa Sprinkle was waving at his car like a committed fan girl affirmed what Davis already knew. Success was the best revenge.

He had a score to settle with Lisa Sprinkle yet. He would settle it.

.

When they arrived home, Davis went directly to check if Evelina had gotten home using his microscope. All he found were people walking by and pointing at his mansion until they walked away.

Madeline came out of the house once. Without a purpose, she stood, body resting on a pillar and eyes fixated on his mansion. Davis peered deeper and found her straining her neck in the direction of his gates.

“Desperate bitch.” Davis hissed to himself and was about to drop the microscope, sick of watching his rotten ex-wife when Evelina showed up.

She muttered some unrequited words to Madeline and then walked in. Davis smirked. Judging from how coldly Madeline had just reacted to Evelina, it meant his plan was working faster than expected.

Satisfied, Davis went ahead to freshen up, change, and then down for dinner. He ate his dinner in bliss, feeling so good and fulfilled until he remembered Juliana.

“Silas?” He called the Silas who was in the living room watching a program on the television.

Hurriedly, Silas came over to join him on the table. “Sir. I'm here.”

“What's the update on Jordan?”

“Our driver is on his way to bring him over, sir.”

“Really?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Then I should get ready.”

He hurried through his meal and returned up to dress up and put on his mask. Davis adjusted the mask after looking in the mirror. Even though Jordan wouldn't know it was him yet, he wanted to appear impeccable. After all, he was going to attend to his rival.

A knock rapped against the door, cutting his little fashion show short. “Sir, your guest has arrived," Silas intoned from the other side.

Davis took a deep breath. “Good, Silas. Good.” He commended. “Where is he?”

“At the third wing living room, sir!” Silas called back from the other end.

Davis nodded. “I’ll be there in a few. Go make sure he doesn't steal anything. I don't trust him.”

“Roger that, sir!”

Even though he wasn't sure Jordan was a thief, his enmity for him wouldn't allow him to see the guy in any other light apart from that.

This was his puppet show. He was putting everything into place and he would definitely have fun.

He descended the grand staircase and headed to the location. He found Jordan in one of the inner living rooms as Silas had instructed, awkwardly sitting on an armchair.

Silas was standing just right beside him, watching Intently. Davis liked the sight of that. Let the male hoe know that he wasn't trusted at all in such a luxury setting.

The man looked like a cheap with his threadbare clothes hanging off his scrawny frame. Davis scoffed inwardly, Madeline's taste had sunk lower than even he could have imagined. And it was all because of some silly lottery money.

The moment Jordan sighted him, he shot to his feet with a clumsy bow. "Sir.” He stated, hands folded in front of him.

The scene of Jordan slipping his hands around Madeline’s waist back that night he caught them together flew back to Davis. He had to grit his teeth and satisfy the urge to go punch the filthy man in the jaw.

Instead, he gave a chuckle that filtered through the mask. He took a seat, watching Jordan fidget like a cornered mouse. "Do you know why you're here, Mr. Jordan?" he asked, his voice a raspy whisper.

Jordan seemed curious as to why the boss had a mask on but dared not put his curiosity into words. “Uh, yes, sir. I was told there was a — a millionaire payment job available."

Fool. Starved monkey.

Davis leaned back, taking in Jordan's pathetic state. The man reeked of desperation, his hands shaking like leaves in a gale. It was as comical to watch for Davis as it was also strangely satisfying. "Tell me about you and Madeline," he commanded.

Jordan's eyes widened in surprise, darting around the room as if the face of the man under the mask could be found hidden away from anywhere there.

What he was faced with was Silas’s grim monitoring gaze. “Madeline?” Jordan finally blurted.

“Yes, Madeline. I heard she's your ex-wife.” Davis stated.

Jordan shook his head. “Madeline and I — we were, uh… we were together for a while. Ex-girlfriend, you could say. Definitely not a wife.”

“Jordan and I have been lovers for quite some months now and are getting married soon. Guess what? We will be visiting The Maldives for our honeymoon; my dream destination!”

Those were Madeline’s words.

What? So her so-called potential husband never married her? How more pathetic could she get?

“And why did it end?" Davis pressed, enjoying the way Jordan squirmed under his gaze.

Jordan glanced at the floor as though the pair of eyes behind the mask were haunting him. “I am a married man, sir. I happened to meet Madeline at the club and we began to smash. She told me she had a good-for-nothing husband who had never given her a thing. I just won the lottery and had so much money. She fucks so well too. I gave her money, she gave me pussy.”

Disgust washed over Davis. How could he have kept such a woman as a wife for three years?

“How and why did it end?” He asked firmly again, irked at Jordan’s lengthy explanation. “Why didn't you marry her as promised?”

“As promised?” Jordan gasped. “I never promised that gold digger marriage. She went on and assumed on her own and I let her. She — she wanted me to stop giving money to my family.” He said. “Except for her, of course."

Typical of Madeline; Davis thought. He believed Jordan’s words. So, Madeline dated another woman’s husband and still wanted him to stop giving her money?

She was a damned bitch. She really had a lot to learn from women like Juliana and Evelina.

Davis glanced at Silas, who stepped forward and dropped a hefty envelope on the coffee table. “Consider this a little incentive," Davis said, his masked voice dripping with cruel amusement. "Win Madeline back before the weekend with it. Do whatever it takes."

Jordan gaped at the envelope at first and then, he picked it up. Davis relished seeing his fingers tremble as he peeked inside. Upon seeing the obscene amount of money, he stumbled forward and fell on his knees.

“Thank you, sir!” He choked out. “I won't fail you! I'll bring Madeline back, begging for my forgiveness!"

How pathetic; Davis scoffed beneath his mask. These people would get the shock of their lives when they finally knew who he was. Imagine the man who stole his wife bowing below his feet today.

Money is Power.

.

Davis had one of the most blissful sleep of his life that night. He kept on reliving the sight of Jordan below his feet and savored the satisfaction over and over again.

He had a smile on his face as he filtered through his morning routine. Just as he was almost ready to leave, he remembered something.

He picked up his cell phone to dial Silas’s private number. “Silas?”

“Good morning, sir!” Silas chanted.

“Send ten thousand bucks to Evelina. Write a sweet note on it and make sure it is sternly stated that she owns the money.”

“Copy that, sir.”

.

By the time he was done with breakfast and was ready for work, the maid whom Silas had sent returned.

“I have delivered the check and note. I made sure I gave it to Ms. Evelina as instructed Sir.” She reported.

Davis gave her a thumbs up. “Good job.”

At least, Evelina would have enough to stop using the public bus and maybe get some new clothes and hairstyles. Thinking back on how much she helped him, Davis concluded that she deserved the world.

.

Davis and Silas proceeded to the company. In the car, Davis remembered he needed to put Mr. Johnson in his place.

“Silas?” He called with the usual mischievous tone he had whenever a plan was crawling under his sleeve.

Silas understood it too. “What record do we want to break now, sir?” Silas teased.

Davis chuckled. “Not much. Just, Silas, let's leverage our anonymous financial entity, the one we've been using for strategic acquisitions. I want it to be the particular one we used in paying the Starkwood’s debt. I went both Johnson and Donovan Thornfield to know that they have the same enemy.”

“Erm. Is that necessary, sir?” Silas sounded concerned.

“I want to put Johnson in his place discreetly."

Silas nodded, familiar with the drill. "Understood, sir. I'll make the arrangements to funnel the transaction through our anonymous financial channels."

As they arrived at the company, Davis and Silas continued to discuss the complications of the plan. The objective was clear though: acquire the Chairman's shares without revealing Davis's identity.
