Chapter 112

Chapter 112
"So, I'm coming with?" Mira asked, hugging Ren's arm as they stood by the side of her bunk in the infirmary.

Ren sighed, shaking his head, "No, Mira, it's dangerous." He replied.

"Hey, I'm the older one, plus..." she leaned in to whisper in his ear, "I just learned that my brother is a very strong beast and has an army of Beast-bound creatures waiting for his order outside the gates. Can't you imagine what's happening, Renault? You're the boss now." She poked his sides, smiling.

Ren was exasperated. He had spent ten minutes trying to explain to his sister that something might still go wrong even though he now owned a battalion of Beast-bound creatures and his own Beast. He couldn't risk putting her in danger, too.

He had already hurt one person he loved, he wasn't going to hurt another.

"I'll take your silence as a yes –"

"No, Mira, no," He interrupted angrily, shaking her shoulders to shaking her lightly, "You're staying here, some soldiers will stay behind to guard the Faction. They will provide you with your serum when the time is right, and food, too. Please, Mira, stay. I don't want anything to happen to you." His voice softened in the end.

Mira cupped Ren's face, smiling softly, "I know you're worried, Renault. I know you care, and I know you're scared. But, trust me, nothing is going to happen to me. I'm never going to get in your way, I just don't want to miss the journey of saving the world. At least, let me be the one who writes this history. Our history, father, and mother will be very happy for us. We saved the world." She explained quietly, looking into Ren's green eyes that mirrored hers.

Ren smiled, "They would be... especially father." He chuckled.

He was yet to tell Mira about the information General Conan had told him about their father. He wanted to be sure Mira was ready to change the way she saw their father.

He didn't want to ruin her memories, it was best he left her remembering him as a kind, strict Commander and father.

"Yeah... especially father. He would have been glad to know that his experiment worked," Mira murmured.

Ren paused, his chest tightened with betrayal as he narrowed his eyes at his sister.

"What did you say?" He asked, frowning.

Mira gasped, placing a hand over her mouth, "Nothing... I said nothing, Renault." She smiled nervously.

"So you knew all along and you never told me? You let me wonder why I was unaffected for so many years. You let me believe the lie that father was just a normal Commander and father –"

"Wouldn't you have done the same? I mean weren't you already planning to keep the information from me?" She snapped, folding her arms to glare at him.

Ren paused, realising it was the truth. He was already holding back the information from Mira, because he wanted to protect her feelings.

Mira softening, her look softening. She reached out and took Ren's hand in hers, "I'm not angry that you tried to hold the information from me. I know you meant well, you didn't want to hurt my feelings or make me see father in a different light. But, you should understand..." she placed her hand on his cheek, gazing into his eyes.

"You're not the only one who wants to protect, Renault. I also want to protect my little brother. You might have grown stronger, fallen in love with your soul mate, and made decisions for yourself. Still, I'll always care for you like a little brother. Because you're my only family, and I love you," she kissed his cheek, patting his back.

Ren released a deep sigh, "You're right. I'm sorry for lashing out at you." He apologised.

Mira chuckled and pulled him in for a warm hug, "It's alright, brother. We'll get through this together. Well, us, Axton, and his men. I'm more of an observer." She smiled.

Ren groaned, "We're back to this again? No, you're not going –"

"She can come, Renault," Axton suddenly cut in from the door.

They turned to see him walking over with Tide beside him.

"Hello, my lady," Tide greeted Mira with a slight bow.

"Why does he always do that?" Mira whispered to Ren.

Ren ignored her and faced Axton, "Captain –"

"Call me babe, baby, sugar, anything sweet. The captain seems too serious. Don't you agree Tide, Mira?" Axton questioned, glancing at each of them.

"Uh, yeah... sure," Mira cleared her throat.

"He's right, Ren," Tide shrugged.

Ren muttered inaudibly and pulled Axton closer.

"Ouch!" Axton held his injured shoulder as Ren pulled him close.

Ren widened his eyes in realisation, "Oh shit, I'm so sorry, love. I wasn't thinking." He murmured apologetically.

Axton smirked, "You called me love. I'm fine now."

"Get a room," Mira muttered.

"We will, in our chamber... in the vehicle –"

"Axton!" Ren slapped his good arm, glaring at him.

"I think you should stop talking, my lady. Our captain is clearly suffering from your words," Tide spoke calmly beside Mira.

Mira scowled, "Don't tell me what to do." She told him off.

"Actually, he's going to be telling you what to do throughout our journey. If you want to come with us, Tide will have to be your warden. I know you would have preferred to be with your brother but... he would be busy with the mission, and yours truly..." Axton paused and pointed to himself, "Me." He winked at Mira.

"So, I'm coming, but I get a warden –"

"Hold on a sec, sister," Ren placed a hand over Mira's mouth and faced Axton once more.

"She's coming? Why?" Ren asked.

"Because, we do not know for sure if my father will not send his ream to come and destroy everything and everyone when he sees we've left. We need to keep her where we can protect her. Or, you want to risk her life?" Axton reasoned.

Ren thought for a while and nodded, "I see your point. You're right." He removed his hand from Mira's mouth, smiling at her, "You're coming with us, and yes, you're to stay by Tide's side twenty-four slash seven hours. That, or you stay back and keep us updated when the general attacks." He smirked at her.

Mira sighed. She glanced at Tide, who had his brown eyes locked on her, waiting for her answer.

"Fine, as long as he doesn't talk much," Mira replied.

"Where's your bag, My lady?" Tide asked gently.

"No bag, I've got a few clothes squeezed into Ren's bag. It's already in the vehicle," Mira informed.

Tide nodded, "Alright. Let's go, after you," he gestured to the exit.

"To your compartment, Tide. Dirian is riding with Reed. She can take the other bunk." Axton instructed.

"Yes, Captain," Tide answered.

Mira happily marched out of the infirmary.

She was very happy, after so long, she was finally stepping out of those cursed walls. It wasn't like she was meeting fresh air and a beautiful view outside the walls, but, at least, she got to see a different kind of ruin.

Behind them, Axton tenderly held Ren's waist as they walked, his fingers slightly digging possessively.

"I think Tide likes Mira," Axton whispered.

"Vice versa. They don't just know it yet," Ren smirked.

Axton chuckled, "Oh? Look who's a naughty boy. Pairing your sister up behind her back, huh?" He teased.

"Tide is a nice guy. He'll make her happy, she deserves something nice, too. Something beautiful like her heart," he spoke quietly.

Axton gently tugged Ren's hand as they reached the Faction's gate.

Ren paused his steps, facing Axton, "Mm?" He hummed softly.

Instead of replying, Axton kissed Ren.

In front of Vance's men, in front of Axton and Reed's men, and even in front of Ren's Beast-bound army, Axton kissed Ren as if they were the only ones who existed in the world.

Ren was shocked, a little panicked here and there, but above all, he felt the strong love from Axton straight to his heart.

"That's your man, brother!" Kael's voice echoed from the vehicle outside the gates.

A few men joined him in hooting for the Captain and Ren, laughter and whistles filling the air.

He chuckled in between kisses and pulled away, biting his lip as he smiled, "You're impossible." Ren murmured.

"I just want everyone to know that you and I have found something beautiful, just like your sister is about to find hers. Fuck my father, fuck his rule. I'm choosing you over everything," Axton smirked, kissing Ren's jaw.

Ren grabbed Axton's hand and dragged him over to the vehicle, his face lowered as his cheeks blushed.

"If you want us to concentrate on our mission, you would behave, Captain," Ren murmured as he dragged Axton past Kael and his gang, who were smiling at them like fools.

Axton allowed Ren to lead him into the vehicle, then he gently pushed him against the wall, his mouth leaning to Ren's ear, "We're concentrating on the mission, sweetass, but we're concentrating on us, too." He whispered, his arm snaking around Ren's waist.

"You're so insufferable," Ren whispered, hugging Axton.

"I am, for you, I'm whatever you want me to be," Axton replied, smiling in content.
