Chapter 150 Capital Verification

Chapter 150 Capital Verification

The manager walked quickly down the hallway with two hotel legal staff in black suits.

At a charity gala of this level, questioning a guest's assets was extremely rude, but Lila had made such a scene that the auction couldn't continue without on-site verification.

"Miss Morgan, sorry to bother you." The manager bowed slightly, his tone serious. "To maintain proper procedure, please cooperate and show proof of assets."

Guests around them cast curious looks.

Jake broke into a nervous sweat and was about to speak when Isabelle had already moved.

Expressionless, she pulled a black card without any bank logo from her windbreaker pocket and tossed it onto a round table in the hallway along with the black-and-gold invitation.

The manager picked up the black card, took out an encrypted card reader he carried with him, and swiped the card lightly across the sensor.

The terminal screen instantly displayed a specially encrypted Union Bank of Switzerland highest-level authentication, along with a dizzying string of numbers showing the available credit limit.

The manager's polite expression froze instantly.

His hand shook and he nearly dropped the terminal.

This wasn't just about having enough money—this type of unlimited European top-tier black card was held by fewer than three people in all of North America.

He took a deep breath, respectfully returned the card and invitation with both hands, bowing at a ninety-degree angle. "Miss Morgan, your assets are fully qualified for bidding. Your account limit far exceeds the maximum for this auction. The earlier questioning was completely a misunderstanding."

At these words, gasps rippled through the crowd.

Lila's face turned deathly pale as she shrieked, "Impossible! You must have been bribed by her! What proof does she have that she has money?"

The manager frowned, his tone turning cold. "Ms. Bonello, Park Hyatt's verification system connects directly to Swiss headquarters. The results are absolutely genuine. Please watch your words."

"Genuine? What genuine!" Lila lost all reason in her jealousy, pointing at Isabelle and shouting to the entire venue. "Don't let her fool you! She's just a poor student from some small place like River City! Her parents are bottom-feeding trash who live off others! When she first got into Capital University, she couldn't even scrape together tuition!"

Lila's voice was shrill and piercing, echoing through the ballroom. "All she knows how to do is use that face to seduce rich men—she's nothing! Where would she get eighty million dollars? She's a fraud!"

Hearing these words, the guests' eyes changed.

Everyone present was a political or business elite from Washington who placed extreme importance on background and pedigree.

If Isabelle really was, as Lila said, just a bottom-tier student who climbed up through improper means, then sitting among them today was practically an insult.

"What's going on? This kind of person can get into Park Hyatt?"

"I heard she tested in from some ordinary high school in China—probably has no background."

The murmurs grew louder, filled with undisguised contempt.

"What's happening here?"

A warm, steady male voice came through.

Alfie from the stage had somehow come down and made his way through the crowd to the center of the hallway.

He stood tall with a proper smile on his face, intangibly calming the restless atmosphere.

"Mr. Kalyn." Lila grabbed onto him like a lifeline, pointing at Isabelle with grievance. "This woman is causing trouble at your charity gala. She has no money and deliberately drove up the price!"

Alfie ignored Lila's accusations.

He turned his head, his deep gaze falling on Isabelle.

The young woman before him wore a black windbreaker completely out of place here, hands in pockets. Facing a room full of doubt and abuse, her eyes remained coldly unruffled.

It was an absolute indifference that treated everyone as beneath notice.

Something deep and searching flashed through Alfie's eyes. He suppressed the strange feeling and put on an extremely patient and gentle smile, saying to Lila, "Ms. Bonello, please calm down. Since the hotel manager has confirmed Miss Morgan's assets, we should respect every guest with a charitable heart."

Then he looked at Isabelle, lowering his head slightly, his tone humble and warm. "Miss Morgan, I apologize. The reception work at the gala was negligent and caused you distress. On behalf of the foundation, I sincerely thank you for your willingness to contribute to charity."

He positioned himself extremely low, perfectly displaying the image of a tolerant, magnanimous philanthropist.

Seeing this, the guests around them nodded inwardly in approval of Alfie's grace.

Watching this man's hypocritical performance, Isabelle's lips curved into a cold smile.

Zela, long time no see. Your act of playing the good guy has gotten more and more polished.

Just as Alfie tried to extend his hand in a gesture inviting Isabelle to take her seat, a cold voice suddenly rang out from the back of the ballroom.

"When did it become anyone else's business to question someone I brought?"

The crowd was forced apart by an invisible pressure.

Sean walked slowly from the shadows, one hand in his pocket.

A black custom-tailored suit wrapped around his tall frame, and behind his gold-rimmed glasses, his dark eyes held a suffocating chill.

Akin and Flynn, his two personal bodyguards, flanked him on either side, their eyes scanning the venue like knives.

"...Sean Morgan?"

Someone gasped, and the ballroom instantly fell into deathly silence.

Sean walked straight to Isabelle's side and stopped. He didn't even glance at Lila on the steps. His gaze swept coldly around the room, his deep voice landing on everyone's heart. "Isabelle is my companion. Every cent she spends in this venue tonight is backed by Everlight Group. Does anyone else have questions?"

The entire room shook.

Everlight's Sean!

The big shot whom even federal lawmakers in Washington had to show respect—he was publicly announcing this girl was his companion? Even saying Everlight would back her?

Those guests who had just been secretly looking down on Isabelle were now scared into a cold sweat, lowering their heads one after another, not daring to breathe too loudly.

Lila froze in place, the blood in her body seeming to freeze.

Sean had actually personally stepped up to support Isabelle!

The moment Alfie saw Sean, his eyes imperceptibly tensed.

As a former Syndicate sniper, he had instincts for danger.

This Everlight leader was extremely dangerous.

But Alfie's face still maintained a perfect smile. He extended his hand toward Sean politely. "So Miss Morgan is Mr. Morgan's honored guest. Mr. Morgan's presence honors Park Hyatt."

Sean didn't shake hands, only giving him a cold glance.

Alfie wasn't embarrassed and naturally withdrew his hand, looking at Isabelle again.

Not only did he not back down under Sean's pressure, but he became extremely interested in Isabelle.

A girl who could make Everlight's leader so protective was definitely not just an ordinary student.
