Chapter 29 Your Uncle
Bella’s POV
“Remember to call me if anything comes up” Ethan said for the hundredth time as he drove me to the Monroe mansion.
“I promise!” I yelled in mock frustration and he just laughed.
It was nice to have someone who genuinely cares about me and worries so much about my safety.
“You worry too much, those bitches wouldn't dare to mess with me” I added with a smile.
I had to admit that I was quite excited to go to the Monroe family. My own blood relative who actually wants to have me by his side.
On getting to the Monroe estate, Ethan parked his car at the entrance, as he didn't want to go in and create suspicions.
I looked at the entrance of the huge mansion and saw my father looking at me from the door step.
He was waiting for me at the front door and looked like a little boy on Christmas morning. His face was bright, and he couldn't stop pacing around.
The moment I walked over with my suitcase, he quickly rushed towards me.
"Eva! You're finally here," he said and reached out to take my small suitcase, even though a servant was standing right there. "I stayed home all morning to make sure everything was ready. Come, let me show you to your room, I had it fixed up just for you."
I walked beside him, my heels making a loud clicking sound on the shiny floor. I suddenly felt hot gazes on me, so I turned my head and saw them.
Haley and her mother, Winnie, were standing by the big stairs. Their expressions were really interactive and they looked like they had swallowed lemons.
Their faces were scrunched into deep frowns, not hiding just how unhappy they were at my arrival. They looked like two hungry wolves watching someone eat their dinner.
Benjamin didn't even see them, as he was too busy talking to me.
"Do you like the colors, Eva? If you don't like the bed, I can buy a new one. If you want the walls painted blue or pink or gold, just tell me. I will change everything for you, I want you to be happy here," Benjamin said, while looking at me with so much hope.
I felt a small sting in my heart. For twenty six years, I wanted a father to look at me like this. Now I had it, but I had to disguise myself to get it.
I gave him a soft smile. "It’s perfect, Father, I like everything you have prepared for me."
I said the word "Father" extra loud, as I wanted it to hurt the two vipers that were watching us.
It seemed to work, as I noticed that Winnie gripped the railing so hard her knuckles turned white. While Haley looked like she wanted to scream and curse me out.
I am not the type of person who hides what I am thinking. I don't like games..I like to face my enemies head on and leave them no escape. So, I stopped walking and looked right at Haley.
"Haley," I said, my voice sweet like honey but sharp like a knife. "You look very quiet today, aren't you happy that I am finally home with my father? Aren't you glad we are sisters now?"
The room instantly went silent, and even the servants stopped moving. Benjamin also stopped talking.
Haley was stunned as she didn't expect me to be so direct. Her mouth opened a little bit, but no words came out. She looked at her mother, then at the floor, then at me.
She hesitated as she didn't know what to say, making it obvious that she hated me, and she couldn't hide it fast enough.
Benjamin saw her hesitation and his smile instantly vanished. He frowned at her, and his eyes immediately turned cold.
"Haley? Is there a problem?" He asked with a voice filled with anger.
"No! No, of course not, Dad," Haley stammered. Her face turned a deep shade of red. "I was just... I was just surprised..I am very happy for you."
He didn't look like he believed her, but he didn't say anything to her and just turned back to me. He took my hand in his and raised his voice so everyone in the hallway could hear him.
"Eva, listen to me," he began with a loud voice. "You are my blood, and this house, this name, everything in the Monroe family originally belongs to you. No one, and I mean no one, has the right to make you feel unwelcome. If anyone tries to make you leave, they will be the ones leaving this house…Do you understand?"
Haley and Winnie looked like they were going to faint, as their bodies shook with anger and their faces went from red to white.
They wanted to rip me apart with their bare hands but they couldn't. They had to stand there and take it because they can't risk offending my father.
I looked at them and smiled sweetly. "Thank you, Father," I said. "I feel very safe now."
I walked past them to go to my room with a servant leading the way. I could feel their glares burning into my back and I was certain that they were probably cursing me in their minds. But I don't give a damn about them, so they can choke on their displeasure.
When I got to my room, I closed the door and locked it. Then leaned against the wood and breathed out.
I looked around, and noticed that my father really had tried his best. The room was huge, and there was a giant bed with soft white blankets. There was a desk with the latest X series computer and a huge smart TV.
There were flowers everywhere that smelled like spring. It was beautiful, and it was exactly the kind of room a princess would have.
I felt tired. My brain was full of plans and my body felt heavy from all the acting. I just wanted to lie down and rest my head for a little while before I put the next phase of my plans in motion.
I walked over to the bed and was about to lie down when my phone suddenly started ringing in my pocket.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
I frowned as I newly got this number and only a few people had it. I pulled the phone out and looked at the screen.
It was an unfamiliar number. I didn't want to pick it up, but the phone wouldn't stop ringing. So, I took a deep breath, cleared my throat to adjust my voice, and reluctantly picked up.
"Hello?" I said nonchalantly.
The silence on the other end lasted for a few seconds. Then a voice that made my blood boil sounded.
"Hello, Eva," he said. "This is Michael Ricci... your uncle."
I didn't know he would call this fast, he is even addressing himself as my uncle, how shameless.
