My Mate

My Mate
Change. Can people change in a small period of time? Can they suddenly turn from ice cold to a soothing warm? To slowly begin to grow your hope like a plant, nurturing and protecting it with care. That's what Deimos seems to be doing to me these days. Like something made him see or change his mind. His eyes follow me everywhere, hands keep reaching for a feel of my skin and nose sniffing for a whiff of my scent. He seems... feels different.

Though being an Alpha needs him to be present always in everyday affairs he does his best to at least see me once a day. How can someone go from not wanting to be in my sight for a minute to always searching for me? To always aching to be by my side?

However, I haven't been able to see him these days as he seems to be busy preparing for the shindig. I didn't understand the meaning behind it until I questioned Ragon to inform me more about it. Deimos must host this shindig every year as it is the only way he can keep the packs away from conflict and ensure peace.

One of the things that sparked curiosity within me related to the shindig is that all the Lunas' must attend. The males of the packs think that the Lunas' must feel honored to be part of this event but I think the Alphas' must be the ones to feel honored to have their Luna's by their side. When I attend the shindig, I will not attend as a Luna, I will attend as an Alpha.

My thoughts are interrupted by Ragon bursting through my door, chest heaving while he bends down palms on knees trying to catch his breath. This male never ceases to amaze me. Looking at him through the mirror brushing my hair I question him trying to hide my smile which often lights up in his presence.

"Yes, Ragon? Did someone die?" I ask him, making his eyes widen while he fakes a laugh.

"Very funny Luna! Not really, I am actually here to take you to the shops to get your gown for today's shindig." He replies with a smile.

"No need to do so, I already have something to wear." I say looking down at the T-shirt and jeans I have on.

"You mean what you have on?" He asks giving me a once-over. I nod agreeing. "You serious?" He asks me once more as I nod again while it sparks him into a laughing fit. "Luna there is no way in hell Deimos would let you arrive at the shindig looking like this unless he becomes blind before that." He tells me chuckling.

That I agree with, there is no way Deimos would let me go like this and he has been so nice to me these days, I don't want to go against him now and make him upset. Shuffling out of my chair with a deep huff I follow Cronus down the stairs. Striding to the entrance I stop midway, my eyes catching sight of Deimos.

My heart skipping beats, my body growing hot by the second. He is a perfect sculpture given to me by the Moon Goddess. His back towards me showing me the perfect view of his body. The muscles of his back flexing to his every moment, his thick hair moving softly to the music of the breeze. As he turns around and looks at me my breath stops in my throat as I fight for air.

Walking towards me looking at me from head to toe he questions me, "Where are you going, mate?" He wants to know where I am going, this male who never wanted to know what I was doing before now questions me like it's very important to him. Like he must know my day activities or he cannot be calm. This makes me happy.

"I-I umm go shop." I answer him my cheeks heating up in embarrassment. Now I cannot even seem to speak proper English when he is near me. While Cronus looks at me like I've grown two heads, Deimos walks closer to me with a sly smile. A smile I get once in a blue moon, a smile I have photographed deep within my mind. Rolling a strand of my hair around his finger he bends down to my height as he whispers in my ears. "And why you go shop?" He asks me once more pointing out my grammatical mistake. He seems to like teasing me, this male of mine.

Before I could answer him, Cronus steps forward interrupting us. "I am taking her to get a gown for the shindig as she seems to have nothing to wear." He tells Deimos, accusation toning his voice.

"And why must you be the one to do this?" Deimos calmly questions Cronus ignoring his tone.

"Her females asked me to do so." He tells Deimos, while giving me a soft smile. I can see the tension simmering beneath the surface between them.

"Y-you can come if you'd like to." I tell Deimos, I would actually like him to come along. We could spend some time together. Cronus snaps his head to me, while Deimos gives me a soft smile.

"Forgive me, my mate. I cannot do so I still have plenty to do with the preparations. Perhaps next time, so go on ahead." Deimos tells me as disappointment covers me. Nodding I follow after Cronus until Deimos's voice booms across the walls.

"Red." He speaks.

"What?" I ask him. Red? Red what?

"Get something in red. I love the color on you." He tells me while looking at the heat of my cheeks in response to his answer as he walks away.

The entire ride to the shops all I can think of is Deimos, does he finally want us to work? Does he finally think I am worthy? Can he see a future of us? Thoughts consume me but fly as Cronus parks the car with a sudden break, chest heaving and nails elongating over the steering wheel.

"Cronus? Cronus, what's wrong?" I ask him softly. He gets out the car coming to my side opening mine urging me to get out. As I step out, he finally answers me with a smile.

"Nothing, Luna. Let's go, get you a red dress." He says as he walks into the shop. While the wolves working bow to us leading the way all I can think is why does Cronus look so mad? And so, begins my trials. Something I have never done before and something I never want to do again.

Tiring isn't even the word to define it, it drains me of all my energy. While Cronus sits on the sofa outside the dressing room, I contemplate whether to show him the gown I have on. It’s quite a simple evening gown but with a slit crawling up my leg. Simple but elegant.

As I open the curtains, giving Cronus the view of me. His eyes come up slowly from the book he was reading and widen to the sight of me, his hands gripping the book harder as they shake. While the other wolves look at us in awe Cronus walks towards me in slow steps walking around me in circles looking at every part. Stopping in front of me looking deep into my eyes, putting a strand of hair behind my ears. He tells me, "You look beautiful Luna."

My eyes widen to his movement and the look he possesses in his eyes, I don't understand why he looks at me this way... a way of a mate or perhaps I am merely imagining it. Taking a few steps behind I show him my appreciation replying, "Thank you, Cronus." No matter what, I am happy to have him with me here he is the friend that I have been dreaming to have all my life. My support when I am in need, he is growing to become like one of my females, a male I do not wish to lose.

The ride back to the castle, I see Cronus glancing at me through the window I have my eyes on. At every stop light his eyes remains staring softly, that look once again. A look I cannot seem to decipher, a look I am scared to find the meaning of and so I look away, I ignore it. Reaching the castle, getting out Cronus choses to carry my gown inside as I await outside hoping to catch a sight of my male.

Searching, I look up to his balcony and I see him bending down with his elbows on the railings staring intensely at me. He was already watching me. We keep looking at each other, just like last time. The only difference is this time he stands on the balcony and I stand on the ground. Our fire is sparking to life bursting, the heat consuming us. I know not of how it affects him, but it is slowly burning me where he is the only one who can save me.

Putting his palms on the railings he jumps down from his balcony landing perfectly on the ground. Getting up dusting his hands he walks towards me in confident strides until we are face to face. "So, how was your first shopping trip?" He questions me softly.

"Good, but I do not wish to do it again." I reply looking down to my feet. I cannot take his intense stare, looking into the depth of my eyes.

"And why is that?" He asks me.

"The trials were getting tiring, how do the other females do it? I thought I was going to drown in the pile of clothes beneath me." I tell him where he chuckles in return, making my eyes snap to his face trying to engrave it into my memory.

"Are you making fun of me? If you do not believe me, you must ask Cronus, his reaction to my every gown I showed him were getting weaker and weaker." I say with a smile as Deimos's smile drops and he grabs my jaw softly bringing my face to his.

"Next time, it will be me who will take you and for every gown you wear I will watch you intently and acknowledge your beauty." He tells me seriously making me chuckle in return.

"So, it's a promise then." I ask with a smile to which he returns with one.

"Of course." He tells me grabbing my hand leading me inside. "But before that, you must get ready for the evening. I have called upon the top beauticians to aid you and they are waiting for your arrival in your room." He says as he lets me go at the bottom of the stairs. "See you in the evening, my mate." He leaves as I climb up to my room.

And so, passes time as fast as it can, as painfully long as it can with the females probing and picking at my face and hair. This is the type of treatment I never wanted to experience in my life. This is not me but is something I must do to protect Deimos's and this pack's image. Helping me put on my gown, choosing between thousands of accessories and shoes they were finally done with me and all I wanted to do was get under my covers and sleep.

Making me stand in front of my mirror letting me have a good look at myself, my eyes widen as I stare at myself from head to toe. I do not recognize this female in front of me. The dark red lipstick covering my lips making me seem seductive, the simple white earrings dangling back and forth complimenting my dress showing off my neck and collarbone. And the split giving a perfect view of my left leg. I cough choking on my spit, while the females present laugh and look proud of their masterpiece. I look at myself once more, I feel different... I feel warm inside.

Gathering my dress walking slowly down the stairs being careful to not trip I stop in the middle of the stairs when my eyes find Deimos as my breath hitches and heat pools between my legs to the sight, I front of me
Gathering my dress walking slowly down the stairs being careful to not trip I stop in the middle of the stairs when my eyes find Deimos as my breath hitches and heat pools between my legs to the sight, I front of me.

His thick hair gelled back giving view to his sculpted jaw, wearing a navy-blue tuxedo fitting him like second skin showing off his strong muscles, his arms bulging through the thick material as he hands the papers, he holds to Ragon discussing affairs. I keep watching him as he fixes his cuffs and brushes through his hair to fix strands that do not stay. I keep watching until his eyes fall on me.

His eyes widen, and pupils turn to an instant black to the presence of his wolf. He, no... they like what they see. He makes no move towards me and I do the same. We just appreciate each other looking at the other slowly from top to bottom, thinking of the things we could do to each other. I keep standing there admiring until I catch the sound of his voice.

"Come." He tells me. One word... one word is all it takes for me go rushing down the stairs until our chests meet. We look at each other, pupils dilating biting lips and mouth salivating. I grow in need. I want his hands on my body, I want his lips on my neck, I want to touch him, I want to possess him. My wants are interrupted with Deimos's snarl as his teeth elongate. His urge to mark increasing by the second.

"Your scent calls to me, my mate. I can smell your need" His voice husky and deep while I grow a deep blush on my cheeks. With shaking hands, closing his eyes taking a deep breath controlling himself, "Let's leave or I might lose myself and eat you up." He tells me as he holds my low back slowly taking me to the ballroom. As the doors open and the packs gathered are informed of our arrival. Deimos's chest puffs up pouring dominance from his pores and wolves kneel making way as we walk past them to the front stage of the room.

Deimos's voice thunders across the ball room, "Welcome. Tonight, is a night of calmness. We have gathered here not for war but for peace. Enjoy it as if it shall be your last and if your heart seems to be wary come show me of your fears and I shall calm you down." As he finishes his small speech wolves cheer and once more begin talking to themselves while I hide my disappointment. I thought he will formally introduce me as his tonight. Am I hoping for too much? What am I doing?

Deimos walks to me to the que of the soft music that begins playing in the background. "Care for a dance?" He asks me softly opening his palm to me which I softly take.

"I have never danced before, so I apologize in advance if I step on your feet." I tell Deimos warily as he gathers me in his arms placing my hands around his neck while he places his around my hips. He doesn't answer me just looks deep into my eyes.

As we sway to the music, I cannot see, hear nor feel anything else except the male in front of me. My heart beating so fast trying to be in sync with his, trying to enjoy this moment for however long it lasts.

Putting his face into my neck taking a deep whiff he growls softly. "You drive me wild, my mate." He tells me small growls thundering deep within his chest. Softly kissing my neck, slowly sliding his palms from the side of my legs to my inner thigh he tries to comfort his urge. But it does us more harm adding fuel to the fire. My mouth letting out soft moans, eyes closed as I drown in the pleasure, he gives me just by touching me. As he looks back at me and I at him, I ask him something I've wanted to for a long time.

"Kiss me, my male." I whisper looking into his eyes. He growls and with one pull from his side, grabbing my face in his palms his lips devourer mine. Our passion for all to see, but I do not care what others think or feel. I want to live in this moment.... our moment. Our lips finally tasting the warmth of the other, my aching has finally calmed. Deimos softly slides his thumb on my cheek as we both smiles.

Our moment is destroyed by the sound of heels clacking against the floor as we watch Theia running out the room and Cronus standing across the hall with hands in his pockets watching all of us calmly.

Deimos watches Theia and back to me as I try to control my tears. No! Please Deimos, don't. Don't do this to me, not now. With one last look at me, his eyes showing me some sort of promise he runs after her as I stand behind without a word watching my male running after another female.

I do not say a word, not even when Cronus takes my hands guiding me inside to a dark hallway where the only light comes from the moon through the large windows and pushes me against a wall. "Look at me. Look at me!" He screams to me as I slowly look up at him. "Why can't you look at me instead of him? Why is he the only one in your eyes? Why is he the only male you see?" He screams as he bangs his fist against the wall to my side making me frown.

"What are you talking about, Cronus? What is the meaning of this?" What is he talking about? Deimos is my mate, of course he will be the only one in my eyes, he is the possessor of my soul.

"I am saying I want you. Look at me properly, see through my eyes. See through my pain. See my heart. Won't you have me? Won't you be mine?" Cronus asks me while I just stare at him dumb folded. But before I could reply to him, a deep voice booms across the quiet dark hall.

"Over my dead body." Deimos's voice thunders with rage. Walking towards us ripping Cronus away from me. He throws me across his shoulder while I cry, hit and fight for him to let me go. But he pays me no mind focusing all his attention on Cronus. Didn't he run to Theia? Didn't he go behind her when he should have been by my side. When he should have chosen me.

"She is mine and will always be. She belongs to me and if you ever come near her again, I'll make sure you do not see the light again." Deimos has made his claim.
