Chapter 93- There Is A Clear Difference.
With a curfew put in place, the entire pack was rigid and anxious. The once peaceful pack members were now at each other’s throat due to lack of proper rest as they prepared for what could be the battle of a life time.
Asher knew he had messed up and he had accepted the fact that he was a horrible Alpha but when his parents showed up at his pack a week after his announcement, he knew he had outdone himself.
“You are making a mess of things!”, his father yelled at him in the secluded space of the pack office,
“You were the one who asked me to follow my heart!”, he countered, “This is due to you giving me shit advice!”,
Jax sighed and stopped pacing, trying to calm himself down, he inhaled and exhaled rapidly, “Yes, I admit that I might have given you the wrong advice back then but what did you expect me to say as your father?”, he scoffed, “I wish I could’ve taken all my words back; tell you to take your mate instead because you are tarnishing my legacy”, Asher furrowed his eyebrows in hurt,
“No father, I will admit that I might be doing a terrible job at this but let us not forget that you made me into who I am today, you trained me to be the Alpha-”,
“Oh yeah? And remind me son, which part of my training involved making a complete fool of yourself in front of everyone. You are the son of Alpha Jaxton Montero, start fucking acting like it!”, he growled angrily.
Asher rolled his eyes, he had heard this one too many times and he was slowly getting sick of it, “I know who my father is but that doesn’t mean I have to be a clone of him. I cannot follow in your footsteps, I wouldn’t do it”,
“You are making things hard for me, Asher, do not tempt me to do something so drastic that you wouldn’t like”, he threatened and by the tone of his voice, Asher could tell that it was anything but empty.
He sighed, “So what do you want me to do?”, venom dipped out of his words, “Leave Imogen? Forget about her? Act like she doesn’t exist?”, he didn’t let his father reply, “I am sorry, but I cannot do that”,
“I am not asking you to do all of that Asher, you can go ahead and look for her but do not risk the lives of innocent people to do so”.
“You realize that I am going through this because of you! She wants revenge father; she wants to bring you down for accusing her of something that happened years ago. She is ruining my life because of you!”, Asher yelled, standing to his feat in a fit of anger,
Jax scoffed, “Well, excuse me for trying to find my missing son”, he narrowed his eyes at Asher and placed a frown on his face, “You are an ingrate, you know that?”, Asher turned his face away, “You were such a sweet and caring boy, how and when did you become like this? What went wrong? Your mother and I gave you any and everything, we never abused you and we loved you wholeheartedly, why are you doing this to us?”, he received no reply from Asher, “I see”, he nodded and walked out of the office. He thought he had tried his best with raising Asher but now he felt as though he had failed as a parent. His once sweet boy was now a monster and there was no one else to blame it on other than himself.
While the two men had their discussion, Brea had made her way to her son’s home, assuming her other two sons were there. She knocked on the door with a bright smile which immediately fell when a more than familiar female opened the door for her.
“Luna Montero”, the female beamed as she opened the door wider for the older woman to enter, Brea scrunched up her nose in distaste as she made her way inside,
“Where are my sons?”, she asked, barely opening her mouth to talk to the woman.
At this point, she had gotten the message loud and clear- this woman was not her greatest fan, “They are in the lounge, is there anything I can get you?”,
Brea scoffed and turned to face Viola, “I don’t know who you are trying to fool but this is my son’s house, if I need anything, I will get it myself!”, she snapped, hissed and walked away before turning once again, “You want to do me a favor? Get lost before I have to force you to!”, this brought tears to Viola’s eyes,
“Why do you hate me so much? I have done nothing to you!”,
“I do not hate you”, Brea denied and even she could tell for herself that she was lying. She hated the girl with everything she had and sometimes, even she felt silly for it. It was true that she had never done anything to her but somehow, she just grew to hate her for no definite reason.
“You do hate me and you know it! Ever since I was a pup you treated me like trash”, she pointed out,
“I am not your mother-”,
“Neither are you Imogen’s but you treated her like she was your own! Why was I different? Why do you hate me?”,
“Because you looked like her!”, Brea finally cracked, her uncaring façade withering like her insides, “You looked too much like her and I could not bare it, knowing there was someone that looked like one of the people who hurt me the most”, a stray tear rolled down Brea’s cheek and she quickly wiped it away with her sleeve, “I assumed that you would act like her when you grew up so I instantly started hating you and treating you the way she treated me- I was wrong with my judgement and I am so sorry for everything”, now, her tears were flowing uncontrollably, “Goddess, I am such a horrible person. What is the difference between Addilyn and I?”.
Viola cleaned her tears and placed a frown on her lips, “There is a clear difference, Luna. Addilyn is pure evil and she kidnapped Imogen- something you are not capable of doing no matter how bad you think you are. I also understand that the kind of trauma she put you through could make you hate me but it is not my fault that I was cursed with her looks”,
“I know”, Brea sighed, “And I apologize sincerely for my actions towards you, hopefully, one day you will find it in your heart to forgive me”, she smiled weakly and painfully before turning around again, she was about to walk away when she looked over her shoulder, “I will have a cup of water, please”,
“Huh?”, Viola looked like a deer caught in headlights,
“You asked me what you could get me? I will have a cup of water”, she stated with a small smile on her face. Viola’s eyes widened in surprise,
“Oh yes, yes! I will get that right away, thank you”, she said, rushing into the kitchen,
“You’re welcome”, the older woman called after her, feeling refreshed. There was something about settling disputes that made one feel free- like a huge weight had been lifted off their shoulder and Brea had to admit that she loved the feeling a lot, it made her feel like she could do anything and everything.
