Chapter 10 TEN
As he entered the packhouse, Carter whistled a song, bringing with him the documents that the Alpha would love. He greeted the servants and headed to Raven's office. Carter opened the door and saw Raven glued to his phone while smiling like an idiot.
"You like a lovesick fool," Carter said. Raven looked at him and glared, then put his phone down. "How was your trip yesterday? You were in a hurry," he added.
"It's good. Brienne gave me a chance," Raven happily said. "The only thing bothering me was the place she was staying," he added.
"Why?" Carter asked.
"It's small, and the neighborhood wasn't good for a woman like Brienne," Raven said. "Send Dex and Flint in her place, and make them guard Brienne. I do not trust the owner, who easily gives the tenant's location without even looking at the ID," he added.
"Sure, I will tell them," Carter said. He raised his hands and put the documents down. "Anyway, here's a document about that Jasper guy. Oh boy, you'll like it," he added and sat on the couch.
"That fcking douchebag," Raven muttered in disbelief.
"Yeah, good thing your Brienne found out about him cheating earlier. That guy's a total psychopath," he said. Raven could feel his anger rising while reading the document about multiple scams Jasper committed. He seduces women, makes them his girlfriends, marries them, and then kills them to take their property. Some women were raped by him, and he threatened to spread their sex videos if they reported him to the police.
"Where is he right now?" Raven asked and crumpled the paper. His veins popping and his eyes glowing in anger.
Carter replied, crossing his legs, "He's currently working at ABC Company as their IT."
"Make sure he'll never work again. That asshole deserves to rot in jail for his crimes," Raven said. He couldn't imagine what could have happened if Brienne hadn't run into him in the KDX club that evening; she would now be involved with Jasper.
"Aye, understood. I'll make it happen. For all the victims," Carter said and grinned.
The next day, Jasper went to work and saw people chattering and gathering. Frowning, he decided to continue walking towards his department. Jasper entered and saw his department manager looking at him with a disgusted face.
"Are you Jasper Maddens?" A policeman appeared out of nowhere.
"Y-Yes, why?" he said.
"You are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you."
"Wait... wait! What did I do?" Jasper asked. The police handcuffed him.
"You are under arrest for fraud, blackmail, and extortion," the police said as they dragged Jasper out of the office building. Jasper cursed. He made sure no one of his victims would rat him out. How did the police find out? The crowd began to clamor, calling Jasper names, and in the midst of the chaos, Jasper recognized a familiar face. It was the man who was with Brienne. Raven walked towards him and nodded to the police. He leaned forward near Jasper's ear and whispered.
"You crossed the line when you insulted my woman in front of me. You shouldn't have done. Enjoy your time serving jail, assh0le, because I will make sure you will rot in there for the rest of your pathetic life."
Brienne groaned in delight as she ate the cheesecake Raven bought for her earlier while typing on the computer. She was engrossed in her report when she noticed Janice hurriedly approaching her.
"Bree!" Janice exclaimed.
"What? What is it?" Brienne asked. Janice shoved her phone towards Brienne and sat beside her.
"Look! It's your ex-boyfriend on the news," Janice said. Brienne watched as the reporter listed all of Jasper's crimes and spoke with a number of his victims. Brienne gasped and turned her head towards Janice, who was also in shock.
"What the hell?" Brienne muttered.
"I know, Bree. That's my reaction too," Janice said. "He's a fcking psychopath! Oh my gosh! If you hadn't broken up with him, there's a possibility that you'll end up as one of his victims!" she added. Brienne felt a chill run down her spine as she reread the news.
"I didn't know he was that kind of man, Nice," Brienne said. "I've been with him for two years!" she added, horrified.
"He's good at hiding his bad intentions, Bree. Look at his poor victims," Janice said. Brienne felt her heart ache, not for her but for the women who fell into Jasper's honey trap.
"I'm glad we caught him that night," Janice said once more. Brienne nodded her head, and the news ended. Janice and Brienne continued their conversation for a few more minutes before she returned to work on the documents her manager required.
Lunch time then came. Brienne stretched her back and rubbed her belly, feeling a little hungry.
"Just wait a little more, baby," she whispered and smiled, but then her phone vibrated. Brienne looked it up and saw Raven's name on the screen.
"Hi, baby. I'm waiting in our spot. Let's go eat lunch outside."
Brienne bit her bottom lips and replied to Raven. She stood up and put her things in her bag. Brienne approached Janice's table and leaned in.
"Nice, I will go ahead first, okay?" Brienne said. Janice glanced at her with a teasing look and raised her thumb.
"Alright, go and have fun with him," she whispered. Brienne let out a small smile and left the department. She went to the elevator and pushed the button to the floor where Raven's waiting for her. When the elevator door opened, she immediately saw Raven smiling at her.
"There's your daddy, love," she whispered, touching her belly. Raven walked towards her, grabbed her bag, and held her hand.
"I can carry my bag, Raven," she said, pouting her lips. Raven chuckled and pulled her closer to him.
"I know, baby. I just wanted to do it for you. Please let me, okay?" he said. The familiar beat of Brienne's heart quickened whenever Raven was doing something for her, a reminder of how deeply he cared for her.
"Okay, fine, whatever you want," Brienne said. Raven grinned as he opened the door for her. Brienne quickly went inside his car, and Raven drove off to the nearest restaurant.
