Chapter 100
Chapter 100
Calista's pov
That night, I lay on my bed with my heart in my throat because I didn't know what would become of me. Under this roof, everyone was out for me and it was just so frustrating.
I turned my head on my pillow as it hit me like a sledgehammer that my own husband wanted me to wash my adoptive sister's clothes and then he was so offended when I said no.
Wasn't I supposed to be the one that was supposed to be in a bad mood because of what he said to me?
It made very little sense that both of them were the ones that were angry when that was supposed to be me instead.
These thoughts ate me up as tears ran down my cheeks like a waterfall, I wiped them away with the back of my hand until I finally fell asleep out of sheer tiredness.
Somehow, I managed to be more tired after I woke up.
It took me a couple of seconds to realize that I was surrounded by darkness everywhere, and then dust filled up my nostrils causing me to sneeze as well.
Where was I?
I began to feel my way around and my fingers gently grabbed some cardboard boxes, and even more dust, which caused me to sneeze again.
In one brief moment of realization, my mind told me that this place gave me a familiar feeling and it was not one that I had missed at all, in fact, it was one that had given me nightmares for a set period of time and my heart kept racing inside of my chest.
Suddenly a burst of light entered the place and when I looked at it, I saw my husband standing there, I hoped in my heart that he was here to take me out of this place and then I called him with a shaking voice.
"Grey?" I called weakly, "... please don't tell me that this is the basem-"
"Yes, it is" he cut into my words before I could even finish speaking and my blood ran cold.
"You can't be serious…" I said, trying to get up but my shaking feet failed me.
"You should have done what you were told to do, Calista…this is the bare minimum of what you can do after trying to kill an innocent child,"
Fresh tears began to run down my cheeks.
"For the millionth time, I didn't try to kill your son…you know that I'm not that kind of person…"
I said and he looked down at me with disdain and disgust in his eyes.
"I don't think that I know who you are anymore, you've changed from the woman that I used to love."
When he said that it was as if my heart had sunk inside of me.
"Does that mean that you no longer love me, Grey?"
There was silence between us for what felt like a thousand years wrapped up in a couple of seconds.
He didn't respond and just closed the door as I screamed at the top of my lungs for him to let me out but he just ignored me and closed the door on me anyways.
The first time that our relationship became rocky he had locked me in this place.
After we were on the same page again, I had told him that it was a very horrible experience for me altogether.
He knew what this place did to me and yet that didn't stop him from taking me here while I slept.
I settled in the dust and I felt the saltiness of my tears taint my lips.
The worst part of all of this was when I asked him if he still loved me and he could not respond well, rather he just avoided the question altogether.
With the way he treated me, simply saying that must have been nothing to him and yet he couldn't respond.
What did that even mean?
Well, they said that actions speak louder than words.
The fact that he was willing to make me go through this again must mean that he really hated me more than any love that he could have for me and as depressing as that was I would have to accept it like that.
He saw me as nothing more than a woman that was capable of murder and that was enough to quench any other feeling that he had for me.
This was hard to accept but a bitter pill that I had to swallow.
I couldn't save our marriage.
Eventually, I was able to fall into a more troubled sleep that left me absolutely exhausted when I woke up.
Eventually, a maid came to open the basement and she looked down at me, her face crumpled up as if she was fighting the urge to just throw up.
"The Alpha King says that he wants to see you, he is in the living room."
She said and then turned away immediately, I sighed.
Even the servants no longer respected me or saw me as their Queen Luna anymore, I was not going to take any more of this humiliation.
Finally, I was able to pick myself up.
My legs felt like lead and the rest of me felt heavy too but I didn't allow it to stop me at all.
I was leaving this house of pain and misery today.
So instead of going to meet Grey, I went straight ahead over to the spare storage space that I had been forced to call a room.
I began to pack what was left of my things, but the moment I tried to carry my bag that I had tossed them all in I thought that I was going to see my hand falling off in the next second.
So I reduced the weight of everything in my bag and with that, I was able to carry it a little bit easier.
I was making my way out when the guards who stood at the gate began to question me.
"Where do you think you are going?" The taller one of the two asked me demandingly as if I was a confirmed thief caught sneaking out.
"I'm leaving," I said with a determined voice.
"To where? Look we don't want anything that will trouble us, just go back in.
I could see it in their faces that they were actually serious about not letting me leave.
"You guys have no right to do this to me, and don't all of you want me gone anyways? From where I stand…I'm doing everyone here a favor!"
I yelled, my entire body shaking, partly out of fury and also because I was exhausted.
Why wouldn't they let me leave?
"What's all this ruckus about?" I turned around and I found myself looking at the thing that had abandoned me, Grey.
"I'm leaving.." I said and against my expectations he didn't look happy at all to hear that.
"What makes you think you can leave?" He said as he towered over me and shivers ran down my spine.
"I don't understand, don't you want me to leave?"
And just like that, I found myself being foolishly hopeful again that maybe the man that had loved me was still there.
"If you walk past those gates then be sure that I will be taking your attempted murder case to court and I don't care if my family name gets soiled in the process…just know that I'll make you regret it,"
My jaw made its way down to the floor. The man that I loved wasn't there at all, my chest fell as it hit me that I had made a grave mistake not leaving with my father when he had asked me to.
