Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Skylar's POV
The cold air clung to Skylar’s skin as she stepped outside the pack house, the door closing behind her with a soft thud. Her heartbeat thrummed in her ears. Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled—a sound mournful and raw, cutting through the silence of the night. But it wasn’t just the usual night cries that set her nerves on edge.
She could feel it.
Something was coming.
After everything—the loss of Luna Daisy, Damon’s spiraling grief, the strange symbols carved outside her house—Skylar’s instincts were no longer a whisper. They were a scream.
The triplets were asleep upstairs, finally. Their small bodies curled together, still clutching the stuffed wolves Luna Daisy had given them on their last birthday. Skylar had watched them longer than she needed to, a storm of emotions brewing inside her.
Damon was downstairs. Restless. He hadn’t slept much since the funeral. But it wasn’t just grief keeping him up anymore.
There were questions neither of them could answer. Who had tampered with Luna Daisy’s car? Who had painted the ancient sigils on the walls of the old pack council building? And why did Skylar wake up each night gasping, her dreams filled with fire and shadows?
She descended the porch steps and walked into the backyard, the grass damp beneath her feet. The moon was nearly full—its glow stark against the darkened trees surrounding the house.
That’s when she heard it.
A crunch.
A twig snapping in the distance.
Her breath caught.
“Damon?” she called softly.
No answer.
She reached for her phone—but it buzzed before she could even unlock it.
Unknown Number: The past is not done with you yet.
Her fingers froze.
She stared at the message, reading it again and again.
Then another one popped up.
Unknown Number: You took something that doesn’t belong to you. Now it’s time to give it back.
Her hands trembled.
A third message.
Unknown Number: Check the gate. It begins tonight.
Without thinking, Skylar turned and sprinted across the yard, toward the wrought iron gate that marked the entrance to the property. It loomed in the moonlight, its frame twisted with ivy and rust.
But something new was there.
Something wrong.
Tied to the center of the gate was a blood-red ribbon, and dangling from it—
A wolf tooth.
Fresh.
Still slick with crimson.
Skylar’s breath hitched in her throat.
A low growl echoed behind her.
She spun around, eyes wide. The air was heavy now, charged with something ancient and wild. She stared into the darkness—only for two glowing eyes to flash back at her.
“Damon!” she screamed, backing up toward the house.
But it wasn’t Damon.
The creature that stepped forward was cloaked in shadows. Its form shimmered—half man, half beast, its fur silver and eyes the color of burning coals. And it wore a pendant. The same kind Skylar had seen in her dreams. The same one Luna Daisy used to keep locked in her study.
A symbol of the old bloodlines.
The rogue stepped closer, lips curling into a twisted grin.
“You should have stayed away,” it rasped. “But you couldn’t help yourself. Just like your mother.”
“My—what?” Skylar choked out.
He tilted his head. “Didn’t you know? She was one of us once. Before she betrayed her kind. Before she ran and had you.”
Skylar felt the ground tilt beneath her.
Lies. This had to be lies.
But deep down, something in her knew.
“No,” she whispered.
The rogue lunged.
Skylar barely dodged in time, rolling across the grass. Her arm scraped against a rock, tearing through her sleeve and skin alike. Pain flared. The rogue came again, faster this time.
Then—a flash of movement.
A second blur launched from the shadows, slamming into the rogue mid-air.
“Get away from her!” Damon roared, shifting mid-leap. His wolf collided with the rogue, teeth snapping, claws tearing.
Skylar scrambled back, heart pounding as the two wolves fought in the moonlight. Blood sprayed. Fur flew. And still, the rogue smiled.
“This won’t end tonight!” it bellowed before Damon sank his fangs into its shoulder.
A burst of light exploded between them—forcing them both apart.
Skylar shielded her eyes. When the light faded, the rogue was gone. Vanished.
Damon shifted back, panting, blood dripping from a cut across his chest.
Skylar rushed to him. “Are you okay?”
He nodded, wincing. “We need to go. Now.”
“But the kids—”
“They’re safe,” he said. “But this was just the beginning.”
Skylar looked down at the bloodstained gate. The wolf tooth. The messages.
Her whole world was unraveling.
“What the hell is going on, Damon?”
He looked at her, jaw clenched. “I didn’t want you to get dragged into this. But I think the truth has been circling us for a long time.”
Skylar’s voice shook. “What truth?”
He didn’t answer.
Because behind them, something else stirred in the trees.
A howl—not of grief this time, but of war.
And far away, deep in the woods, multiple red eyes blinked into life… watching.
Waiting.
