CHAPTER 114; A SILENT ENEMY

CHAPTER 114; A SILENT ENEMY
CIERRA

“What are you all waiting for, chase after her” Xander yells at the guards around, however, I can already feel myself going numb to everything even as Xander escorts me out of the dungeon with his hand on my lower back, even as we walk past the dead bodies that laid across the ground, bleeding or too weak to stand.

I’m so close to asking Xander to live without me, so close to begging Xander to let me go to them and handle it. I won’t fail, because I know Xander will be left to fight them on their own, however, the chances of my survival are the same as a player on board trying to get a double.

Cassius has begun driving and both males are discussing how they can get into the warehouse to defeat the Robertson’s and other soldiers. While I can only get lost in the view of the outer window as I let my thoughts wander away.

The clouds do seem thick—an indication that it’s about to rain. Could this be a sign of the goddess crying out to us, sharing her heartfelt apologies for not being able to help us or could this be a sign of victory?

“Xander,” I mutter out his name hoping he’s able to hear me.

“Yes, love,”

I feel him shift by my side, but still can’t turn to him.

“Do you think we will win?” Foolish me, if I don’t have an answer to my question how would he have it? Maybe I need assurance. I had assurance from my loved one that everything would be fine, that he would be fine.

“Yes we will”

And he does give it to me, causing me to turn to him as I stare into his eyes, my eyes flickering between his as if to find the truth. He traces his fingers along the sides of my face, sending a tingling sensation running down my spine. His touch almost sends a wave of peace into me.

However, the minute, Cassius abruptly halts the car. The peace flies out of window, leaving me to face the harsh reality.

“What the hell Cassius?”

Xander yells, but for some reason I’m indifferent as I sit up and stare at a frozen Cassius.

“I was wrong” He muttered and my heart drops as I witnessed the down casted look on his face. Words are not needed to explain why a stone cold man looks this way.

“What’s going on?” Xander questions.

I turn back at him, not wanting to hold the news from him anymore. I had thought this moment wasn’t the right time to inform him about Cassius and Nadine but it can’t be helped.

“Xander” I begin but Cassius cuts in.

“I’m sorry sir,” Cassius interjected, gaze on his thighs and he goes on.

“I could break it off with Nadine, she has my child”

I can feel Xander go stiff under my touch, however when I meet his gaze he loosens up and nods, taking a deep breath in.

“Fine, but what does that have to do with our current situation?”

This time I join Xander in staring at Cassius while we awaited his response. I have my guess that this related to Nadine, but there are a million thoughts running through my mind.

Instead of answering, Cassius passes on his phone to me. My heart beats hard in chest as I take it from his hold and play the video on screen. And there they are both Damien and Nadine been forcefully dragged away. The sender had no name and aside them being dragged away there’s nothing else to show who has done such.

“Who would have done this?”

Xander and I must have been thinking the same but he is the first to voice it out as both of us turns to Cassius for answer but he shakes his head in response, sending a wave of disappointment.

“Could it be Selene?” I blurt without thinking shifting my gaze from Xander to Cassius who are both staring at me.

“She just left, it’s impossible for her to be at the pack by now”

“But it’s possible for her to have informed her mother about what she heard us saying at the dungeon, there are lots of the Robertson’s guards at the pack house, but they are covered by Damien but if Damien can no longer control them anymore, no one can be safe there” Cassius adds and my eyes widens in understanding. While Xander clenches his jaw.

“She must have found out about the death of her husband too by now,” Xander says before massaging his temples.

They have taken everything, hostage, and now, we have everything to lose at their hands. It’s a scary reality that sends me shivering. Would she kill Nadine as the price for taking her husband’s life? My heart beats faster, my hands trembling as I stare up at Xander.

“Shouldn’t we try to negotiate with them before they hurt her?”

Xander shakes his head at my suggestion.

“Negotiation or not they have her in their hands, negotiation is not the solution right now, at least direct negotiation with them”

“Then what do we do” I ask impatiently, a rising in my throat as I can taste the bitterness from my throat already.

“Drive back to the dungeon, I know someone that can be of better help with negotiation, a negotiation that will shut down the whole Netherland system”
