Chapter 165: Defeat.
Chapter 165: Defeat.
Thorne’s POV
I knew a wolf whose life bent at the whims of those in the Council when I saw one, and that is a perfect description of what, or rather, who I was currently staring at in this moment.
Ferdinand writhed in my hold, grunting and growling as he tries to free himself from my paws that are pressed against his neck. I wasn’t going to budge, especially since I finally had him in the position I have wanted him since the beginning of this fight, begging for his life.
Well, technically, he isn’t begging. Not with his mouth but I can see it in his eyes. He doesn’t want to die and even when it becomes clear to him that this is exactly how he is going to die— with me cutting off his airflow and suffocating him— he still doesn’t stop fighting.
The fight around me increases, causing me to press harder. Sooner than later, one of his guards may decide to strike me but for now my guards are holding the fort. Covering for me while I finish my work, slowly and the way it should be.
I press harder and harder with both my paws and my body weight on his neck until his writhing starts to reduce and his body temperature starts to drop.
“Alpha!” Carlos signals from the other end of the field. “His soldiers are closing in one you. You need to hurry.”
Carlos must be incredibly occupied for him to have to tell me about the approaching wolves rather than come over to fight for me.
Ferdinand’s new set of warriors are much larger than his army and mine in the first place. And seemingly stronger. And so just as Carlos warned, I decide to simply wrap it up with a single slash of my claws across his stomach. While he fights for his last few breaths, I step away from him to let him bleed out, but not before taking a deep inhale of his blood on the grass. Of my first victory.
Ferdinand’s guards are the first to start retreating, as soon as they see that he is dead. But I still manage to kill a handful before they leave. As for the new warriors, they do not seem to be here simply because of Ferdinand anymore because they refuse to retreat, still fighting and trampling on my soldiers.
I tear off the number that I can, and while I do this, I try to curtail the rage surging through my veins at the fact that the Council thought to be sneaky with me.
I tear off the jaws and necks and limbs of my opponents with my teeth one after the other, until finally, I stumble upon the wolf who looks like the head of the army. Carlos is handling him, but for some reason, I want to be the one who kills him.
I approach them quickly, shrugging and throwing off all the wolves that try to fight with me.
Entering the fight with a solid gash to the wolf’s jaw, Carlos quickly gets the memo and finds his way to the other end of the field, where he helps out the other guards.
I stand over the big black wolf laying at my feet with blood pooling in his eye sockets from my claws and decide to feed my curiosity. He is obviously not here on his own. His very presence in this brawl is uncalled for.
“Who sent you here?” I ask him.
He smiles, cowering backwards and causing me to move forward. “Why ask? It’s Feedinand, obviously.”
I squint my eyes at him, taking in the shakiness of his smile, then I shake my head. “If you are here for Ferdinand then why not retreat now that he is dead? What do you want?”
“The order was to kill you before leaving.” He scowls to me.
“Order from who?”
He is about to lie again. I smell it, and as soon as do, I take action by stabbing my claw into his open wound in his eyes. He wails, writhing beneath me. “Order from who?” I repeat and he starts to shake.
“Garron!” He yells, sucking the breath from my lungs. “Garron Silvermane.”
