Chapter 23 Twenty Three

Chapter 23 Twenty Three

Elara's POV

“Welcome home, Boss. I was beginning to get worried.” Throne uttered immediately as I walked out of my car.

I slammed my car door shut and forced a tight smile at Throne. I wasn't in the mood for talks. All I needed was a hot long bath in the bathtub. After which I retired early.

“There’s nothing to worry about, Throne,” I assured him, walking past him. My heels hit the ground soft every step hiding the storm boiling inside me. I couldn't show off my frustration in front of my trusted cliques. As a leader, they depended greatly on me and it wouldn't be culturable for me to emotionally break down in front of them.

I could still hear Lucas’s arrogant words ringing in my head. It was like I could never think straight without remembering the earlier incidents. The way he looked at me like I was some weak little girl he could win over made my blood boil.

“Are you sure you are good, Boss?”.

“Yes I am.” I assured vehemently.

Throne followed behind me, paying a“ If you say so. How did the meeting with that scum go?”

I stopped at the door, my hand gripping the handle. “As expected. Lucas shows up pompous. Proud. He thinks he can scare me because he knows we looted the Kordova warehouse. He thinks I’ll bow down to him if he tries to blackmail me.”

I turned around, my eyes sharp. “ but I won't let that happen. Not under my watch. Not under my rule. My leadership."

“I trust you to do a great job in handling Alpha Lucas.” Cyric chipped. His voice resounded into the night air.

I flashed a smile at myself. My brain couldn't comprehend anything. All I needed was a bath and a sleep.

“Thanks for checking up on me earlier today guys. I appreciate it. I am glad I have a family that looks out for me.”

They both nodded with warm smiles on their faces. I bid them goodnight walking to the house. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, feeling a bit lighter knowing I was finally home. Home is a place where I am loved. My own personal space, my own peace.

Throne and Cyric stayed back, giving me the quietness I needed.

I climbed the stairs slowly, my steps clearly subtle despite the weight
carried inside me.

My head ached all over from all the thinking too much. My body begged for rest. I didn’t need to think about a new plan tonight. All I needed was just a warm bath. Soft sheets and silence.

I pushed my room door open and walked in after slamming the door shut. I took off my clothes.

I tossed my clothes to the floor, not giving a damn on where they landed.

All I craved was hot water touching my skin. My feet moved on their own, heading straight to the bathroom.

I turned on the tap of the bathtub, letting the bath tub fill with hot water. The steam danced into the atmosphere, a soothing balm to my ragging nerves.

When the bathtub finally filled to its brim, I stepped into the water gradually, my lower body sinking into the water before letting it swallow me whole.

For the first time today, I felt peace. I finally allowed myself to breathe properly .No pressure. No responsibilities.

Just me and the quiet sound of hot water. My eyes fluttered and I slammed it shut. A small smile appeared on my lips.

I began to hum to the quietness.

I gradually began to feel the warmth of the water seep into my bones. All the tiredness I felt suddenly disappeared.

I was woken by a loud siren that blasted through the entire syndicate. Sirens were usually used to make us aware of danger. Mass attack or something of such.

I was still in the bathtub when the sirens blasted. Just when I dozed off in the bathtub I heard the noise.

I jumped out of the tub making water splash everywhere. My heart began to pound hard in my chest.

Something had to be wrong for the siren to be sounded at this ungodly part of the night.

I grabbed a towel, wrapping it around my wet body, my hair dripping with water. I was running to the window. My eyes took in the environment. Red lights flashed from the outer walls

My peaceful moment was gone.

Who dares to break into my territory at such a time.

I rushed to my closet, pulled out a simple shirt and pants. I got into it, my

There was no time for makeup or to clean hair. I took a deep breath and grabbed my gun from the bedside drawer. I took another deep breath and stormed out of my room.

My people needed me, and it was obligatory for me to show up.

When I arrived at the scenes, Throne, Cyric and Aria were already involved in a gun duel battle with a pack I didn't know yet.

I ran over to Aria, taking shelter behind a large pillar.

“Who the hell are these people?” I asked Aria, breathing fast as bullets kept flying around m

My back pressed hard against the cold pillar. My breath ragged. My gun is tight in my grip.

Aria ducked low beside me, her chest rising and falling. “These intruders from Silvester’s cliques,” she said quickly, her voice sharp. “I was able to recognize their tattoos. They are such insane fur attacking us.”

My jaw tightened. My blood is boiling. “Silvester? How dare that coward send his men to step into my land?”

“Exactly,Boss,” Aria nodded, wiping sweat off her forehead with the back of our palm.

“They stormed into our gates as expected without warning. They were able to make it through by breaking through our west fence. We tried to stop them before the siren came on but they outnumbered us greatly.”

I peeked from the pillar, my eyes scanning the field. My people were outnumbered but they were holding off to an extent. This was my family, and I would fight beside them.

I looked back at Aria. “Get everyone to the east side walls. Instruct Throne to lead a counterattack immediately. Cyric should head to the rooftop with his long-range snipper.”

“Yes, Boss,” Aria answered, determination flashing in her eyes.

I flashed a smile at her, mustering courage.
