Chapter 14 Fourteen
Elara’s POV
“We can't trust those spies. They are like Marchant trying to sell off what they have at whatever price. They won't hesitate to betray us if they are offered something more. Something more than life itself. Fortune. Wealth.” Aria uttered, her voice void of emotion.
Aria’s words made sense. I knew for myself that spies could never be trusted. They were like the wind. Changing sides with the speed of light. Always chasing those that would pay them more.
I clenched my jaw, thought running through my mind. Fast.
I could trust these crafty men but maybe I could use them for my own advantage before tossing them aside. Before slitting open their throats and feeding it to vultures.
The idea sounded appealing. I tapped my fingers away on the table. “We will use them to our own advantage.” I said coldly.
“Get all the information we can. Once we have gotten all the information we need to take down Silvester, we will wipe their names off the surface of this earth.” I sneered.
Throne nodded, his face sharp like a knife. Aria smirked, liking my decision. “Silvester thinks he’s smart,” she whispered , scoffing. “We will crush him from inside his own walls.”
I smiled in contempt. I supervised a few guards to lock the spies into the inner dungeon while preparing them to return to the Silvester’s territory.
I headed to my room. My back touched the softness of my bed. A sigh escaped my lips. The tension on my shoulders faded and for a moment, it was like time had ceased to exist.
I need alone time with myself. For myself and by myself.
Being the leader and sole masterminder of a powerful syndicate like ours was draining. Both physically and mentally. I had to do best in ensuring my pack stayed united no matter the force or challenge we might go through.
I couldn't show of my weaknesses In front of everyone. Not when they relied heavily on me. My intellect. My guidance. I couldn't let my friends down. Throne. Aria.
They were family. People who understood my worth for what it is. People who didn't look down on me like Lucas did.
Fucking Lucas Blackwood.
We had a lot to contend with and I was all out to fight for my family against a man who shredded my heart to satisfy his ego.
My heart grew heavier thinking as I thought of Lucas. Lucas was real poison in my veins.
A man who broke me without giving a fuck all because I was na Omega. A weakling looked down on. But now I was not that weak girl anymore.
I was no stronger. Smarter. I had built something powerful. A circle of people that appreciated me and I would do anything to protect it . Even with my own life.
Silvester was first on my list. Lucas would come later. Slowly, I closed my eyes, my fingers clenching the bed covers. I need to take a short nap.
Just when I thought I had fallen deeply asleep. A knock penetrated my sleep. A groan slipped through my lips. I sat upon my bed, my fury skyrocketing. I felt the urge to pull off my hair from its scalp.
Who could it be that was disturbing my own peace?
“Who is it? Come in.” I muttered, rising to my feet.
The person overboard hesitated for a moment before the door knob twisted. The door creaked and Karina, one of the kitchen staff, walked in . Head lowered in respect.
“Sorry to disturb your sleep, Boss. I just wanted to ask if you did like your breakfast to be served in the dining arena or here in your room.”
I stared at her for a few seconds. I could feel drowsiness slipping through my eyelids. I sighed, still fighting the sleep in my eyes.
My heart was beating very fast from how sudden I was woken up. My mood was already messed up and now this? I took in a sharp breath, forcing my voice to stay calm.
“Breakfast?”.
She nodded, her gaze locking with mine for a minute.
“Breakfast has been long cooked while the roll call was ongoing. I wanted to let you know but then there was an interruption by Throne and you were gone to attend to your duties, Boss.”
My mind rolled back to earlier. I was too shocked, livid and furious when I learnt about the spies that I forgot I haven't had breakfast.
My stomach let out a growl. Hunger pangs gnawing at my insides.
“I'd like to have it served here in my room,” I replied shortly.
Karina nodded quickly, her gaze still lowered, she flashed a smile at me, before rushing out of the room. I sat back on the bed, rubbing my temples.
My peace of mind had already been ruined and there was no point trying to get back to sleep. I had too much going on in my head. Too much war to fight. Too many betrayals to avenge. Too many people on my kill list. My revenge was only starting.
The maid returned a few minutes later. She pushed in a cart. A tray filled with assorted dishes ranging from appetizers. Side dishes. Main dishes and dessert.
Sushi?
I picked up a piece of sushi, throwing it into my mouth while having a satisfying munch.
“...mmhhh!”. I have exclaimed, the sweetness of the food hitting my taste buds.
I looked up at Karina. My countenance changed. My mood brightened.
“You always have a way to make me forget my problem. You are such a good cook, Karina. “
I sipped from my wine, enjoying its savoury taste. Grape wine. Fresh from the farm. Just the way I loved it.
Gosh!!!
I loved this. A nice meal to take my mind off my mentally draining problems. Something to help me chill.
“I am always at your service, Boss. I am glad you liked it.” she chimed, grinning gleefully.
