Chapter 86 FATE IN STOCK

Chapter 86 FATE IN STOCK
Kali's POV

I used to tell myself that I was cursed, but with how fate had given me another chance to smile again, by having Diego save he at the right time from the hand of that rogue bastard, I honestly thought things were really going to get better from there. In a way, it had.

I was in a new pack, and actually had a chance to getting my revenge and finding out what exactly happened to Katya. It was stupid of me to think that there wasn't a way I would encounter you difficulties. I knew I would, I just didn't expect them to come in the form of the same man that was supposed to help me.

Alpha Diego.

Everything was going well, until he asked me to prove myself. Deep down, I didn't mind, but I hated how he wanted me to suffer for it. Like that wasn't enough, Leo just had to put more pressure on my already aching back.

“What matters is this, you have to find a way to make him agree to that breeder proposal. If you don’t…” his voice echoed in my head, and how deadly serious he sounded sent shivers down my spine. “…the consequences won’t just be bad, Kali. They’ll be deadly.”

What was I supposed to do now?

I'd barely slept. All I could do was toss and turn until the sun came up. My body ached from the lack of sleep, but I knew there was little to nothing I could do. I had to find a solution to both mine, and Leo's problems.

As quickly as I could,I got out of bed and freshened up. I was barely done and rinsing my hands in the small basin when the door slammed open.

A yelp slid past my throat as I jumped up, spinning around. I lost my footing, but luckily, the bees post was at the right spot for me to hold onto. My heart thundered in my chest, and for a moment, I honestly thought I was going to pass out.

My eyes scanned my room, and even though it took a little while, I finally found the person who'd barged into my room.
Diego filled the doorway like a silhouette cut from my daydream. How broad shoulders were tense, and his eyes dark with something that didn’t feel safe.

“Ever heard of knocking?” I snapped, more out of instinct than bravery. “I could’ve been naked you know…..”

“I don't care.” His voice was a rough growl around the edges that made me shiver, but I didn't let it show. “I don't give a damn.”

“Well, I do.” I had no idea where the courage was coming from, but heaven knows I didn't mind it at all this time. “Leave.”

If Diego was the least bit offended, he didn't show it. Instead, he held my gaze for the smallest second, and just when I thought he'd exhausted all the tricks up his sleeve, he did the unthinkable. He rushed at me.

He didn’t slow down, he didn’t even blink, and I wasn't trying to be extra. In three strides he was in my space, backing me up until my shoulder blades met the wall. A small gasp slid past my lips as I grazed the edge of my dresser witg my arm, but he didn't look the least bit concerned.

A wave of cold bit into my skin through my shirt, but still he kept coming, caging me in with one arm braced above my head.

“What are you doing?” I asked. He was dangerously close, and I hated how my body was already reacting to him in just a matter of seconds. “why are you on my room….”

“I'll ask the questions here.” He cut me off with a snarl. “And I want you to answer every damn one of them.”

“What do you think you’re doing?” He added again, in the kind of tone that made you wonder if you’d already made a mistake.

“What?”I blinked at him. “I have no idea what you’re…..”

“Don't you dare lie to me, Kali.” The sound of my name on his lips was pure bliss, so deep I had to bite down on my bottom lip. “I'll ask you one more time. What the hell do you think you're doing?”

“I have no idea what you're talking about.” I let out. “you barely spoke to me all through yesterday, and now you're barging in to do what? Accuse me? If you're at least going to do that, go straight to the point!”

“Leo.” he huffed, like he'd been waiting for the words . “A little birdie saw you two yesterday.”

“Oh.” The air around us thinned suddenly, and I didn’t move. I couldn't breathe either.

“What were you talking about?” he asked, voice deceptively soft. “Last time I checked, you two aren't exactly buddies.”

“I’m not telling you.” I surprised myself by my own answer, but Diego didn't seem the least bit impressed.

“So let me get this straight, you expect me to help you with your revenge, yet you keep things from me?” His eyes narrowed, and the corner of his mouth curved ,not in amusement, but in something darker. “What if this little story of yours is a lie?”

Wait, what?

His words stung harder than I would like to admit it, and even though I had no idea if he knew the effect he had on me, I kept my mouth shut.

“It’s not a lie,” I said sharply. “I don't tell lies.”

“But you keep things, right?” He scoffed, and it held every drop of contempt and sarcasm in the world. “isn't that convenient?”

A wave of silence settled between us, but it wasn't the normal kind. It was the kind that seeped into your bones like its only intent was to cripple you from the inside out.

He didn't say a thing, but the moment a smirk made its way to his lips, I just knew something was up.

“Good,” he murmured. “Then I have an idea. The perfect way to find out if youre lying or not. .”

Just when I thought things couldn't get any more worse, he leaned in, close enough that his breath warmed my ear.

“I’ll test you myself.”

Oh shit. How did I manage to get myself into situations like these?
