Chapter 78 Her Honesty

Chapter 78 Her Honesty
\[Raelyn’s POV\]
Dammit.
Why was this happening? Why was I sitting here crying in the arms of a complete stranger while not only Osiris but even the whole damn cafe was watching me?
Stop it!
You’ve got to stop this, Raelyn.
Who gives a shit if he doesn’t want to put a name to what we are? Why should I care if he thinks of me as no one in front of his fake girlfriend?
“There, there,” Adeline murmurs, beginning to rub comforting circles on my back. “Don’t cry because of an asshole like him.”
“Hey,” Osiris growls, and I don’t dare to look to see what kind of expression he is making. “I didn’t do anything.”
“Didn’t you?” Adeline challenges.
For a moment, Osiris grows quiet, and I can’t help but wonder if he is actually considering what it was that he did to upset me.
“I’m fine,” I repeat, hating that I was even like this. “It’s just the…”
I stop speaking as I wonder whether or not Osiris informed Adeline of my pregnancy.
If he didn’t, then that meant that he didn’t trust her knowing.
“It’s the hormones, right?” She asks me.
Lifting my head, I take in Adeline’s expression, and I feel a bit of relief.
“So he told you.” I sigh, sitting up and swiping at the tears on my cheeks. “I’m sorry. I’m making a scene.”
“I didn’t tell her anything.” Osiris counters, and I can almost see distrust in his eyes as he takes in Adeline and me. “Which makes me wonder how you could possibly know.”
“Her heartbeat.” Adeline explains, smirking. “I must have forgotten to mention that I’m medically trained. Whoopsies.”
At her words a hiss of shock escapes Osiris before he composes himself again and turns his gaze on me.
“Why were you crying?” He asks, not letting me off the hook. “Does it hurt somewhere? Should we go back to the hospital for another checkup?”
“I’m fine.” I snap.
There was no way that I was going to tell him that my pride was hurt because I thought that we were actually advancing to something with meaning.
“It’s just the hormones.”
For now, I would use my pregnancy as an excuse for my ridiculous reactions, and I would keep what was really wrong with me.
There was no point in bringing it up anyway since I was certain it would only make Osiris feel pressured anyway.
“If you’ll excuse me,” I continue, slowly untangling myself from Adeline’s arms and standing. “I need to use the restroom real quick.”
Not waiting for a response, I’m moving, making my way through the cafe so that I can be alone with my raging thoughts.
\[Osiris’ POV\]
I watch my prey’s retreating form while confusion and something more rush through me.
What exactly was going on with her?
Was she upset that our morning together was ruined by Adeline and her girlfriend appearing? Or was there something else bothering her?
“I should,” I begin, but stop as Adeline clears her throat.
“You should stay here.” She tells me, her gaze filled with knowing. “Don’t you know that sometimes us ladies need to be alone?”
“Alone,” I repeat, wondering how she could possibly know what was good or not for my prey when she didn’t know her as well as me. “And what if something is seriously wrong?”
Dammit. Why the hell was I even sitting here arguing with her when I should be up and checking on things?
“You two enjoy your breakfast.” I announce, standing up. “Sorry for leaving so quickly.”
“Do what you feel is best.” Adeline shrugs while giving me a look that irritates me. “I have to admit, I didn’t think you had it in you.”
“Have what?” I ask. “What the hell are you…”
“Go on then,” she says before I can finish. “Your queen awaits.”
Opening my mouth, I prepare to argue but decide against it. Instead, I give her one last look before heading in the direction my prey went.
When I reach, I find her standing in the hall taking even breaths with her hand on her heart, and I immediately feel a wave of panic rush through me.
“So, something actually is wrong.” I hiss, moving forward and startling her. “Where does it hurt? Is it your chest? What about your stomach?”
“I don’t hurt anywhere,” she snaps, but I can see it in her face that something is off. “I’m…”
“Don’t you dare say you’re fine,” I warn, pulling out my phone and preparing to call the hospital. “Come on, let’s go get you checked.”
Moving forward, I attempt to grab my prey’s hand, but she steps back, moving just out of reach.
“I said I’m fine.” She snaps, her stubborn side making an appearance. “Why won’t you listen to me?”
“Then why don’t you look fine?”
Even from where I stood, I could tell that something was very wrong with her from her watery eyes, to her downward-turned lips, and the distress on her face.
“I told you before that you show everything that you are thinking and feeling, so why are you trying to lie to me?”
“That…” She begins, her cheeks flushing. “It isn’t… It isn’t anything physical.” She finishes lamely.
“Then what is it?” I demand. “What’s going on? Are you upset that our breakfast date was interrupted by Adeline? I already told you that nothing is going on between us, so why…”
“You said I was no one.”
My prey’s voice is low as she speaks. So low that I’m not entirely sure if I even heard her correctly.
“You said I was no one.” She repeats, this time more strongly. “Even though you told me that you want me beside you, you said I was no one."
For a moment, I don't speak as I consider what it is that she is saying, and when understanding begins to wash through me, I can't stop the smile that starts to spread across my face.
"Is that all it was?"
At my words, a look of hurt flashes in my prey's eyes before it is replaced by anger that is completely aimed toward me.
"Sorry for being upset over such a ridiculous thing." She huffs haughtily. "I'll be sure to remember my place in the future."
"That isn't what I'm saying." I sigh, moving forward but stopping as she gives a growl of warning. "Weren't you the one that kept pushing me away?" I continue, my mood rising. "Are you now saying that you want me to put a label on what we are?"
"I… I don't know."
"Well, you'll need to tell me, sweetheart." I chuckle. "Otherwise, how am I supposed to know how to introduce you in the future?"
