Chapter 159 Confirmation
Chapter 159 Confirmation
\[Osiris’ POV\]
I take a look at the hotel one last time before turning and telling the cabbie in front of me to head to the airport, and when he nods, I settle in my seat.
When we arrive at our destination, I shove some cash into his hand, and then head inside, where I buy the earliest ticket home, and after that, I sit in the lobby and endure the long wait. And when it is time for me to board, I feel like an eternity has passed even though it has only been about an hour.
During that time I didn’t see Adeline, and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was a sign that my assumption about her and Jean was true.
Of course, I didn’t want to suspect those that I trusted explicitly with mine and my flame’s secret and safety, but the timing was just too good. And as I realize this more and more, I kick myself for allowing her to go with Jean.
Don’t worry. I think silently, flopping in my seat. I will make sure that those who dared to try to harm you pay greatly.
Settling on this, I fix my gaze out the window beside me and watch as the plane I am on starts to rise into the air, and once it does, the waiting game begins.
It takes quite a few hours to return home, and once I do, I immediately call Reg to come get me.
When he pulls up, he looks frantic, and I immediately realize that something else must have happened.
“Speak,” I tell him after throwing my luggage in the backseat and climbing into the passenger seat. “What the hell has you so uneasy?”
For a moment, Reg doesn’t say anything as he stares at me, and I can see the hesitance in his gaze as he stares at me.
“Just fucking say it,” I growl.
“It’s the old man,” he responds, slamming the gas so we start moving. “There’s something wrong.”
At his words, I feel my heart squeeze painfully, but I keep my expression neutral and simply raise a brow, urging him to tell me exactly what is happening.
“You see,” he continues, turning onto the main street. “He came by after your stepmother returned, and when he was leaving, he was congratulating Ray on his engagement and even his advancement in the company.”
“Was he?” I ask, though in a way I start to understand what is happening. “So, it seems that that bitch has been using magic to get one up on me.”
“Sorry, magic?” Reg hisses, peeking toward me. “What do you mean, magic?”
“That woman Jean.” I explain. “The one that is with Adeline and has been taking care of Raelyn—she is part mage.”
Fuck it. Since she was betraying me, there was no point in harboring her secret any longer. Honestly, I had half a mind to tell the elders so that she would be tried for infiltrating the world of wolves without revealing her secret, but before that happened, I wanted to deal with her personally.
“So, you’re saying that your stepmother is using magic to manipulate everybody?” Reg gasps.
“That’s my assumption.” I confirm. “But I won’t know for sure until I’ve spoken to the old man.”
Nodding, Reg pushes the gas pedal to the floor, and then we are moving, and when we arrive at Dawson Industries, I head straight up to my grandfather’s office, where I am certain he is currently working.
When I arrive, I don’t bother knocking before bursting inside, and when his gaze comes to rest on me and all I am met with is disdain, I know that my assumption is correct.
“Why are you here?” He growls, his eyes flashing. “How do you have the face to show up in front of me after everything you’ve done?”
“And what exactly is it that I have done?” I ask calmly.
I couldn’t wait to hear what it was that Jean and that bitch of a stepmother came up with to get him to turn on me and give everything to Ray.
“You secretly sold competitors our information and almost ruined Dawson Industries after I trusted you so wholeheartedly.”
Trusted me.
Ha!
That was rich.
If he actually trusted me, he wouldn’t even be doubting me right now, but I was certain that Jean’s magical suggestion was playing a big part in this, but he also revealed something that would come in handy later.
If what he was saying actually did happen, then that meant that Ray and my stepmother went to great lengths to try to ruin me, and once I got everything settled, I would make sure that they paid for their misdeeds.
“I see,” I say now, focusing on the old man in front of me. “Do you have proof that it was me that did this?”
Growing quiet, I wait while he just stares at me in disbelief, and when he opens a drawer and pulls out a folder, he throws it at me.
“Everything is right here!” He snaps.
Nodding, I open the folder and take in the email exchanges that are supposed to be between me and the competitors, and I can’t help but applaud Ray and his mom for being so thorough.
“I guess this is certainly damning.” I chuckle. “But I didn’t do this. How could I possibly do such things when I have pups on the way that I have to protect?”
“P-pups…” My grandfather gasps, his eyes almost bulging. “Don’t tell me you went and knocked up some random woman!”
“Random woman,” I repeat. “Are you calling the heir of Emerald Moon some random wolf?”
“BOY!” My grandfather roars, throwing the folder at me. “WHO THE HELL DO YOU TAKE ME FOR?”
“I wonder,” I chuckle. “But why are you so mad?”
“Because you’re trying to claim that Ray’s fiancé is the one you impregnated! Do you truly expect me to believe such nonsense?”
There it was. Proof that my stepmother and Ray did use magical suggestion to warp my grandfather’s memories. Then, did that mean that they did the same thing to my flame and that was why she was going along with Ray?
The thought of that makes my blood boil, but I try to remain calm.
"I'll be heading out," I say, turning. "I've gotten enough of a confirmation."
"Leave? "My grandfather sputters. "How dare you come in here to start trouble and then just leave!"
"See you later," I sigh. "When we meet again, I will have all this sorted, so be prepared to beg me for forgiveness."
