Chapter 157 Their Whereabouts
Chapter 157 Their Whereabouts
\[Raelyn’s POV\]
I don’t speak as Ray just stares at his mother. It is clear from the look on his face that he doesn’t exactly agree with what she is saying, but he doesn’t bother responding.
“Right,” he murmurs, turning his gaze toward me. “I’m sure you’re right.”
Finished speaking, he moves forward until he is standing in front of me, and when he reaches he just stares at me.
“Something wrong?” I ask, eyeing him curiously. “You look uneasy.”
“It’s nothing,” he says, but his eyes say otherwise. “I’m just not feeling too well.”
“Then you should go and sit down,” my mother-in-law responds. “We have a long flight ahead of us. It’s best that you rest.”
For a moment, Ray doesn’t speak as he considers what she has said, and when he gives a nod, he reaches out and takes my hand.
Where our skin touches leaves me feeling icky, but I don’t dare to pull my hand away.
Instead, I allow Ray to lead me onto the jet and then into a seat where he buckles me.
“Safety first,” he announces, before taking a seat beside me. “Don’t want anything happening to you or the pups.”
“Right,” I murmur, trying to understand why I feel the way I do. “Thank you.”
Growing quiet, I try to make sense of what is happening.
I knew that I was engaged to Ray, and there was no way that I would have agreed to marry him if I didn’t have any feelings for him, and yet…
Even now with him sitting beside me, I don’t feel a thing. Well, that isn’t entirely true. But what I feel isn’t the feelings of love and longing.
If I had to put a name to what I was feeling, it was resistance and guilt. However, I didn’t understand why I would be feeling guilty.
I didn’t have any reason to feel guilty since I wasn’t betraying anyone.
As this thought hits me, a face flashes in my head, but just as quickly as it appears, it is gone, and I find myself wondering if I was imagining things.
“Are you okay?” Ray asks, making me realize that I was clutching my knees so hard my knuckles were turning white. “Are you uneasy about the flight?”
“Yeah,” I respond, trying to relax. “I’ve never been good at flying.”
Nodding, Ray continues to stare at me, and once again I see that look of unease.
“Are you okay?” I ask, reaching out to touch his cheek, but stopping as he flinches away from me.
Frowning, I lower my hand while he gives me a look that screams apology, but before he can say anything, my mother-in-law and the other two women appear.
“You look pale, dear,” she says, giving me a look of pity. “I guess that what you went through must have given you a fright.”
“What I went through,” I repeat, furrowing my brows as I realize that I couldn’t remember what led to me being chained up. “Speaking of, what exactly happened back there?”
“You were kidnapped,” she tsks, taking a seat across from me. “By that bastard Osiris Dawson.”
Osiris Dawson. Who exactly was Osiris Dawson?
I try to put a face to the name, but I can’t seem to come up with anything, and that makes me wonder if the man really was the one who put me in that position. I didn’t know why, but something about all this just wasn’t sitting well.
“These two can confirm,” my mother-in-law continues, motioning toward the two women who look less for wear. “They too were kidnapped by him because he wished to use their power to try to overtake my Ray and take his position as alpha of Moon Storm and heir of Dawson Industries. Luckily, I found all of you in time before he could do anything.”
“Yes, lucky,” I say slowly, though I don’t quite feel that way.
Instead, I feel a bit of disappointment that I couldn’t remember the man and didn’t get to see him.
“Don’t worry,” she assures me. “All of that is in the past, and from here on out I will have security around you twenty-four seven. I can’t possibly let anything happen to you and my dear grandchildren, isn’t that right, Ray?”
Smiling, she turns her gaze to her son, who sits silently beside me.
“That’s right.” He says, but it doesn’t sound like he means it, and that once again leaves me uneasy.
“From this point on everything will go perfectly.” My mother-in-law sighs as the jet around us jerks to life. “Just leave everything to me.”
\[Osiris’ POV\]
I sit silently, waiting while Adeline reaches out to Jean, and when her expression falters, I know that something is wrong.
“What is it?” I demand as she focuses on me again. “Did you get in touch with her?”
“I couldn’t,” she admits. “It was almost as though something was blocking me.”
“Blocking,” I repeat. “What the fuck does that mean?”
I mean, I understood what it meant, but if that was the case, didn’t it mean that Jean was intentionally keeping Adeline out?
“Fuck this!” I snarl, unable to remain calm. “If you aren’t going to be useful, then just go back to the hotel.”
If I couldn’t get an exact location of where my flame was, then I would just search this whole fucking frozen continent, and if I needed to tear every fucking building apart to find her, I would.
“You can’t act rashly!” Adeline snaps. “This place isn’t known for having werewolves. What if someone were to…”
“I don’t give a fuck,” I respond. “I’m willing to allow myself to be found as long as I find my mate.”
Finished speaking, I start to shift into my wolf form, and once I’m finished, I turn and start moving.
With each step my panic and fear grew, and horrible scenarios started to rush through my head.
Please. I beg to the heavens. Please don’t let anything have happened to her!
As this single prayer repeats itself, Adeline appears beside me, and when she increases her pace until she can put herself between me and my path, I attack, slamming her to the ground and opening my mouth in warning.
What the hell was she doing? I didn’t know, but I didn’t have time for it. The longer I went without finding my flame, the farther away from me she would become.
Giving a growl of warning, I release Adeline and prepare to move, but before I can, her mouth wraps around my leg, and when I look down, her muzzle moves as if it is forming a word.
Cocking my head to the side, I try to determine what exactly it is that she wants to say, and when I realize that the only way to find out is to hear it, I shift back into human again.
“Speak,” I tell her as she does the same. “What the hell do you want?”
“I think I got a clue,” she responds.
“A clue,” I repeat. “What the hell does that mean?”
“I saw something,” she admits. “I think Jean was showing it to me.”
“And what was it?” I hiss, grabbing her shoulders. “Tell me! What was it that you saw?”
“A jet,” she responds.
At her words, I feel like the world around me is crumbling, and as I reach for something to hold me in place, my vision turns a bloody red.
