Chapter 14 CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Chapter 14 CHAPTER FOURTEEN
CHAPTER FOURTEEN

MAX’S POV

I stood under a tree in the garden, waiting patiently for Ethan’s arrival.

After the awful way I treated him the other day, I was skeptical he would come around that.

Zaria’s silence is taking a toll on me, I need to get on her good side right away if I want to stay sane.

“Your fucking grace?” I heard a voice from behind me, no one would dare refer to me as that aside from my best friend and Ethan.

I wanted to lock him up and beat him till he bled to death, but that would only make matters worse, Zaria would forever hate me if I dared to do that.

“Watch your tongue,” I cautioned coolly, turning to look at him.

His face was filled with hatred, anger, it almost seemed like he had harbored hatred for me all along.

His eyebrows were knotted together and his lips twitched to the side, like he was staring at something unpleasant, which was me.

“Get straight to it, what the fuck am I doing here?” he asked and I shrugged.

“She won't talk to me, and insisted on seeing you first, I had no other choice but to send for you,” I replied to his question.

His once tough face softened, by just mentioning her name, and my heart tore a bit, this was jealousy at its peak, he truly cared about her, and I hated it.

“Is she alright?” He asked, and I nodded, even if that was a ridiculous question, how would she get hurt in the palace?

“She just misses you and would kill for a minute with you,” I said, ignoring the jealousy behind my voice.

A smile crept to his face, as his cheeks reddened upon hearing that Zaria missed him.

I know I'm not great at body language but I could tell that Ethan loves Zaria, but Zaria was too blind to see it and I think I prefer it that way.

“I would love to see her, but the thought of you interrupting us is something that is stopping me” He huffed, with his eyes glued to mine, ignoring my intimidating physique.

Why does he want to be alone with her? What the fuck is he planning? I glared at him but he replaced it with a cocky smile.

Fuck! This is a sacrifice I have to make to be on her good side.

“That isn't a problem!” I said, walking away from the tree.

Just at that moment, I saw Elara running towards me, she ran like something bad had happened.

“Is there a problem?” I asked, as she reached where I stood.

Her chest was moving up and down repeatedly, and she tried to catch her breath, the sweat on her forehead kept rolling down her face.

“Your…Grace” She stuttered, trying to catch her breath.

“Speak!” I growled at her, getting impatient.

“I went to your chambers to deliver some documents and I found the Luna unconscious on the floor, with a glass or cup broken on the floor, and the drinks spilled everywhere,” She said, holding her chest for support.

“What!” Ethan and I yelled simultaneously, as I walked to my chambers in haste.

My heart rate increased with every step I took, as I thought of multiple scenarios that might have happened.

When we got to my chambers, I saw Zaria lying on the floor, lifeless.

“Zaria!” I gasped as I dropped to my knees and gave her a quick shake, but there was no movement.

“Don't fucking stand there! Call the pack’s healer,” Ethan growled, but I didn't know who he was referring to, but I would guess Elara.

“Fuck it,” I cursed under my breath, as I lifted her to the bed, and wished she would at least open her eyes.

Soon the healer barged into my room hurriedly, and with a bow, he commenced the treatment.

“What happened to her?” he asked, and I huffed at the ridiculous question.

“We are here to find the answer to that question” Ethan growled, his patience growing thin as a thread.

“Her breathing is very shallow, and it's weird because she was just drinking a scotch!” the healer said, trying to check her pulse.

Ethan paced around the room, while I just stood with my back against the wall, scared to death of losing her.

I recalled the day my sister died, her screams till she took her last breath haunted me day and night but I have refused to talk about it.

“What did she eat or drink, aside from the scotch?” he asked, looking at Elara.

I was already having a bloody heart attack and the healer is just fucking slow, I tried to keep my anger in check, so I won't ruin her chance of survival.

“She had fried pancakes for breakfast, and fried okra for lunch, then she refused to have anything for dinner,” Elara said, and he gave a slight nod of the head.

“It seemed she had been poisoned!” the healer confirmed, and my eyes shot out.

“Poisoned?” I asked shocked, that has never been heard of in the palace.

The palace servants are Faithfull till death, none has even had a devious heart.

“I thought your fucking palace was safe!” Ethan growled, glaring at me.

“It is safe,” I protested. “Something isn't just right, and I can't lay my hands on it”

“Save me those soothing words! Her life is in danger here!” he fired back, but I wasn't ready to trade words with him.

My head is trying to wrap around a reason why her life would be threatened, who the fuck would want her dead?

The healer spilled something into her mouth.

“If this antidote doesn't work for her, then we would go ahead to plan a funeral,” He said, without emotion.

My heartbeat was faster than I expected, and I formed a fist, trying to keep my cool.

We waited for minutes, but she didn't move.

“That's all I can do, your Grace!” he said and stood to his feet.

“You had better be telling a wide joke, get the fuck down and bring her back to life!” Ethan growled, ready to punch at the healer, regardless of his age.

I went to her bedside and held her hands tightly, “Please wake up” I whispered.

I stared at her face, and her eyes fluttered open.
