Chapter 25 All fake
Lyra's POV.
Seraphina wore the dress and it looked good on her. Even her two escorts who had appeared in the room minutes earlier were surprised to see me.
They also had no idea their master had suddenly changed and it was starting to get me confused.
“Let's go get breakfast done” she said and was moving out of the room when she stopped again and turned back to look at me.
“You haven't taken your bath yet, have you?” She asked.
She had come to pick me up immediately after the roll call. I couldn't tell her to let me take my bath before I followed her, I only just changed into my work clothes.
“Use my bathroom” she said and my eyes further widened.
She is not being serious right now. She wants me to use her bathroom?
But that wasn't all. “Kelly, prepare a dress for her. The alpha likes her in beautiful dresses”
I couldn't say a word, I could only stare at her. She urged me to go take a bath and I couldn't decline.
I took a bath and changed into the dress the escort called Kelly had picked.
The dress looked so big, heavy and beautiful on me.
I didn't think I had the luxury to show up in a dress like that. It was obvious the dress was made of wealth and I was putting the dress on when I was nothing.
It just feels so awkward and the fact that Seraphina was the one giving me that dress made it so awkward.
“It looks good on you” her face was serious as she scrutinized the dress on me. “Now let's go”
She moved out of the room first, I followed behind her and her escorts followed behind me.
We walked through the vast compound of the estate, heading to the grand hall.
Maids were already awake, going through their daily activities but when Seraphina passed with the escorts and I behind her.
They paused what they were doing. Some paused to give greetings to her while some only watched or gossiped.
And I knew who they talked about the most. Me.
The one dressed regally behind her when she's just in the same class as them or lower than they were.
Seraphina didn't give any of them attention. She didn't even reply to any of the greetings they passed on to her.
But I had my gaze fixed on the maids as I walked, I could see their lips move, I could hear the faint sound of them talking and gossiping.
In the list of maids that worked, I could see Enna. She also stood and stared at me.
She was carrying crates but she had paused her movement and was now only looking at me.
She was confused. I could tell from the way she looked at the scene.
They probably all knew I was dressed in Seraphina's clothing.
When Enna's gaze locked on me, she gave me a look that asked what was happening.
I signalled back to her. “I will fill you in on the details later”
I didn't know something was in front of me and because I wasn't facing where I walked on, I almost tripped.
A gasp escaped my lips even though I didn't want to make a situation out of it.
Seraphina stopped and turned back to look at me. “Are you okay?”
Her face twitched in concern and I quickly put on a smile.
“Yes ma'am” I said.
Her gaze still lingered on me after I said that. “Be careful” she said before she turned her gaze back to the path we walked on.
Soon, we got to the grand hall. Everyone was already seated including the alpha and his Luna.
I also knew we were late for breakfast. It should be almost eight already.
Seraphina took her time taking her bath and we took time picking her dress. Not to talk of the fact that I was also made to bathe and dress like this.
Everyone stared at the both of us who entered but they didn't have their eyes on Seraphina. Their gaze was mostly fixed on me.
I moved my eyes around all of them just to read their facial expressions.
The alpha looked amused, my mother looked so surprised. She knew the only regal gown I had was the one she had brought to me the other day.
Lord Kael's face was expressionless but he wouldn't stop looking at me.
I moved my eyes away from him faster than I did with everyone else because I didn't want to lock eyes with him.
Elias was the last person I looked at. He also looked surprised and I could see a hint of amusement on his face too.
Seraphina was the one who broke the silence that reigned after our arrival or could have. Seen reigning before our arrival.
“I'm sorry, Alpha. Forgive me everyone” she bowed slightly. “We are late for breakfast and I made Lyra late too” she apologized.
She was becoming different to me in just a day. She was acting all nice and sweet and I didn't know what to call it at the moment.
“It's fine, Seraphina,” the alpha said.
“You both are looking so nice this morning,” he added.
I was glad he complimented the both of us, else I knew Seraphina would have gotten jealous or angry.
She dressed me up but her own dress wouldn't have been appreciated.
“Is that dress not yours, Seraphina?” Elias asked, his eyes still on me.
Everyone stared at her, waiting for a response. I was starting to feel nervous already even though I didn't know why.
“It is.” She replied simply.
“Why is Lyra wearing it then?” The alpha was also showing interest.
“She'd be my sister-in-law. I've decided to treat her more nicely and with respect now” she said.
I looked at her surprised. So that was it? She wants to pretend the mate bond between lord Kael and I doesn't exist and then treat me as a sister in law?
That shouldn't sound concerning but I couldn't bring myself to trust her.
