Chapter 187

Chapter 187
Ceasars pov-

The manor’s walls loom around me, their scarred stone a testament to our survival, but the war room feels like a cage, the bloodied crescent-and-claw symbol glaring from the table, its fresh scarlet a scream of betrayal that claws at my trust. Every warrior’s face is a mask, their loyalty to Bella and our unborn twins the only anchor keeping me from tearing this place apart. My boots echo as I pace, the torchlight flickering, casting shadows that seem to whisper Veyra’s name. Bella rests in the hospital wing, her strength creeping back, her cape folded neatly beside her cot, but her resolve to reach the sacred grove burns brighter than her wounds—a fire I admire, yet fear with every fiber of my being. Her pregnancy, our twins, are a risk I can’t ignore, and the thought of losing her tightens my chest.

Freya, bandaged but awake, sits across the room, her voice strained as she shares more about the grove, her knowledge of Blood Valley, our guide. “The path is treacherous—fog-choked trails, feral Lycans guarding the way,” she says, her eyes flickering. Her guilt hangs heavy, and I wonder what she hides. Finn stirs in the hospital wing, his voice weak but resolute, urging Amber to join the mission. His hand clutches hers, their bond a mirror to mine with Bella, a reminder of what we fight for. Amber’s eyes shine with determination, her kit already packed, and I nod, knowing her skill is vital.

I stride to the hospital wing, my heart pounding, Kar’s instincts howling for Bella. She lies on the cot, her face pale but fierce, her eyes blazing with that stubborn fire that drew me to her. I kneel beside her, her hand warm in mine, my thumb tracing her knuckles, her pulse a steady rhythm that calms the storm inside me. “You’re too weak to travel,” I say, my voice sharp, the words cutting deeper than I intend. “The twins need you alive, Bella.” Her eyes flash, her hand sliding to her belly. “They need a future, Caesar,” she counters, her voice cold, and I see the vision haunting her. My chest tightens, fear and love warring, and I lean closer, her scent, roses and iron flooding my senses.

“I can’t lose you,” I whisper, my voice breaking, and she pulls me close, her lips grazing my jaw, a spark that ignites Kar’s fire. “We’re stronger together,” she murmurs, her kiss deep, desperate, a vow that drowns the traitor’s shadow. Her lips are soft, warm, a lifeline in the chaos, and I deepen the kiss, my hand tangling in her hair, her heartbeat syncing with mine.  I pull back, her eyes fierce, her scent lingering as I stand, my resolve hardened. “We leave at dawn,” I say, my voice steady, but my hand lingers on hers, a silent promise to protect her.

The pack buzzes, warriors fortifying gates, stacking weapons, their murmurs a hum of defiance. Amber packs her kit, her hands steady, while Finn limps to the armory, his blade ready, his determination a spark I respect. Freya’s knowledge guides our plan, her eyes guarded, and I watch her closely, her scent a question I can’t answer.

I interrogate warriors, my voice a growl, searching for the traitor. Their eyes meet mine, loyal but shadowed, and I hate the doubt gnawing at me. Bella joins me, her steps slow but sure, her crimson cape draped over her shoulders, her presence a fire that steadies me. We review the map, her hand brushing mine, a spark that grounds me, and I squeeze her fingers, her warmth a vow. “We’ll find the traitor,” she says, her voice low, her eyes searching mine, and I nod, her trust my strength. The pack prepares, the manor’s halls alive with clinking armor and whispered plans.

As dawn nears, I lead a final sweep of the manor, my blade drawn, Kar’s senses sharp. The armory’s iron scent hits me, and I pause, a chill crawling up my spine. A warrior lies slumped against a rack of spears, his chest carved with the crescent and claw symbol, blood still warm, pooling on the stone floor. My roar echoes, warriors rushing to my side, and I kneel, my claws flexing, the scent unmistakable—Freya’s, faint but damning, lingering in the air. Bella arrives, her gasp sharp, her eyes hardening as she meets mine, her trust in Freya wavering. “She was scouting,” I say, but the words feel hollow, her scent a question that twists my gut. I grip my blade, ordering a lockdown, the manor’s gates sealed, but the strike team must leave now, the grove’s ritual our only hope against Veyra’s ritual.

The team gathers, Bella’s hand in mine, her pulse steadying me. Amber supports Finn, his limp pronounced but his eyes fierce, while Freya stands apart, her bandages stark, her gaze averted. David clutches the map, his relics packed, his voice steady. My heart pounds, Bella’s safety my priority, her touch my strength, but the traitor’s presence is a blade at our backs, Freya’s scent a question I can’t answer as we step into the night. The dead warrior’s blood pools, Freya’s scent a damning clue, and a scout bursts through, his face pale, his voice trembling. “Veyra’s cult is massing at Blood Valley’s edge,” he says, “their numbers swollen, ready to intercept us before we reach the grove.”
