Jealousy

When I wake up late the next afternoon, Mercedes is still asleep in my arms.
I look at her black locks scattered all over my arm and shoulders and her relaxed face. She lies so peacefully, snoring from her slightly open lips. Her legs are entwined with mine, an old trick of her to wake up as soon as I move. In the past, when I visited her in her pack, she always had a problem with me sneaking away while she was still asleep.
But not today. I know she's dead tired.
After the failed shift in Shadow Moon and the celebration of our mating with the warriors, we drove straight through the night to Midnight Moon. Of course, there was an interruption in Human Town at the Drive Thru. And when we finally got here in the early morning hours, there was another late meal with the Elders, followed by our intense lovemaking. My Luna is now exhausted, I want to let her sleep through. Knowing my parents, her ceremony tonight will be pretty hectic. I'll have to ask them to spare her a little more. If what Jax claimed is true, she has several pups with her, which will take a lot of her energy. And I don't want her to get tired all the time, especially since her appetite isn't optimal.
I take a deep breath, I think I should get some books on pregnancy and nursing from the pack doctor. Nothing must go wrong. ‘Jax!’ I call out my wolf. I close my eyes and see my black wolf stretching lazily. Annoyed by his slow attitude, I snap at him. ‘Had a good night, Jax? Do you often forget that when I am with my mate, you first politely ask for permission to take over?’ I let him know in annoyance. ‘I don't want to see you as a rival, but my private time with Mercedes is for us, we don't need infiltrations.’
I know what I'm saying is rubbish, but I'm upset with Jax for some reason. Lately, he started to control my sex with Mercedes and I know she conceived at his instigation. It's like I'm jealous that he made it happen. ‘Hey, man. Remember that we are one and the same creature. The pups are just as much yours as they are mine,’ he lectures me. ‘Jealousy is not necessary here. You should really be grateful to me because now no one can claim her anymore.’
Uuurghh, now he also dares to boast that he was the one who got the job done.
‘Let's make a deal. You deal with Era and leave Mercedes to me. Don't come between us anymore when we have sex,’ I try to restrain him. But he laughs at me, and stands on his hind legs out of pride. ‘Listen Zane, you have the tools and I have the magic,’ he pleads his case. ‘Watch her go into ecstasy when I get all out. But I can only do that if you do the preliminary work. We need each other to give our mate the maximum pleasure she deserves. It's a two-man business.’
Ahhhh, now he wants credits for satisfying my mate too! I decide to end this long-winded conversation, I'm getting increasingly annoyed with him. ‘Tell me, Jax. How many pups are we talking about here? I really want to know that,’ I ask him curiously. ‘I can't wait for them to arrive. Maybe I should build a bigger packhouse or just a separate Alpha bungalow where we can be private as a family,’ I finally muse.
Jax opens his eyes wide. ‘You want to know how many pups there are? Man, I'm afraid I can't tell you that. Maybe the pack doctor will help you with that in a few weeks,’ he tells me without regret.
Without another word, I slam the mind wall. I want nothing to do with this wolf for now. I look back at Mercedes and notice that she is still sleeping in the same position.
Time for me to do some business and meet my parents.
Now that I've confiscated Silver Moon and decided to promote my Beta Jace to the Alpha position, I need to notify the Council and surrounding packs. His installation ceremony is performed by the King of the Werewolves in a special procession that will elevate Jace's family bloodline. I want to get it in order as soon as possible so I can give all my attention to Mercedes.
Slowly I untangle myself from her embrace. I know she's too tired to wake up anytime soon. I quickly take one of my shirts out of the closet and place it in her arms. Then I dive into the bathroom for a quick shower and clean clothes. Back in the bedroom, I kiss her and walk out of the apartment to the elevator that takes me to my study.
I arranged the correspondence with the Council and announced the news in the Alpha WhatsApp chat group. The reactions appear immediately, many know Jace as a secure and loyal guy with a strong character. Many are confident he can run the pack now that he is mated, especially after Alpha Ahri's poor management. Nor was there much faith in his son Glary, who threatened to follow in his father's footsteps.
I immediately let them know my little Luna is wearing my mark. We are officially marked and mated, which is much admired by my colleagues. Not everyone is able to wait eight years for their mate to reach age. But many have seen Mercedes and me up close and know how close she is to me. And they are not unfamiliar with the latest developments with the two rival alphas. So, I was applauded for my struggle to keep my mate.
Finally, I will send the invitation to the Luna ceremony tonight. Many promises to attend.
Before leaving for my parents, I go and have a look at Mercedes again. She's still sleeping like a baby when I re-enter the bedroom. After a kiss on her forehead, I head back to the east wing of the packhouse. After a short knock on the French doors, my mother calls me in.
And there I see them sitting like agreed. The joy of seeing me again is evident on their faces. I walk over for a hug of relief. As for me, it was a tense time for then, too, after Alpha Ahri broke off contact between Mercedes and the pack. And now that all is well, everyone relaxed again...
