Happily, I stare at my mate.
How did this possibility not cross my mind? This must have happened that day in the cabin in the woods. When we made love there, I already had a different feeling, felt more connected to Mercedes. Before I met her, I had some flings with she-wolves outside my pack, but I've never knotted them. Mercedes is clearly my mate, determined by the Moon Goddess. She alone could get my body to react like that.
I keep staring at her in love, unable to explain my behavior to her. It is impossible for me to tell her in front of everyone that in a few months, we will have not one but several pups. Several, not just one. Moon Goddess! One must be a girl who looks exactly like her mother, that is my dearest wish.
I keep staring at her dreamily.
"MATE! Is this the first time you see me? I already know that I am breathtakingly beautiful.” I blink a few times and now see Mercedes looking me sternly in the face with her hands on her hips, bending over. I smile at her guiltily. “I was lost in thought for a moment, my love”, I apologize. “But no wine for you today. A warrior gets you some juice.” To smother a protest, I pull her to me and kiss her mark. I immediately feel how her body tightens with desire, her hands go around my neck by themselves. I managed to distract her.
“Why don't we go home? We are no longer needed here”, she whispers in my ears, hoarse with desire. Completely in heat, she rubs herself against me. Again I nip my mark and again, a shiver runs through her. Her arousal penetrates my system, Jax now stands up and looks at her in love. ‘Give mate what she wants, Alpha. Why do you keep her waiting?’ he pleas. The warriors now begin to chuckle sheepishly.
"Alpha, we're joining Kenry, Jace and Saphira in Silver Moon," Kenry's deputy reported. I nod and take my mate in my arms to walk to one of the cars we drove here. After placing her in the passenger's seat, I get behind the wheel. I pull her to me, from today on she won't move a foot away from me.
As I ride the way back, I threaten to fall back into my dreams. “My parents are taking Glary's corpse to Silver Moon. Then they come to our pack. From there, they start their world tour”, Mercedes explains. I nod and pull her closer to me. I need to figure out how to make her aware that we're pregnant. This is not easy, usually, it is the woman who comes with such good news.
“Baby, how have you been feeling these last few days? Were you often tired and vomiting a lot?” I start carefully. She nods innocently. “Yes, I slept a lot. And Saphira gave me a lot of fruit because it stays in my stomach the longest,” she says. “And lasagna? Do you still like it?” I try again. Her eyes light up just at the mention of her favorite meal. A smile comes over my lips. My mate is a real foodie, in the coming months I will have to think of all kinds of ways to get her to eat healthily. We want strong, healthy pups.
But I also know that my scent and warmth can help her carry the pups easier. But Mercedes is very affectionate, that will help a lot.
“I haven't had it in a long time, Zane. Everything in Shadow Moon was wrong. The flowers, the food, the Alpha,” she pouts. Now I can't help but burst out laughing. Thank God her mood is still intact. “Yes, especially that Alpha was wrong. Now he is good again, Jasmina will keep him in line”, I assure her.
An hour on the road, we drive into Human Town. I look for an Italian drive-thru and order a large Lasagna, fries and honey wings. “Hey, why are you ordering juice again, Zane. Get me a Coke this time." Help me here, Coke is absolutely out of the question.
‘Alpha, Silver Moon packhouse is on fire. Saphira is begging Kenry to spare the pack's wolves. She's on her knees,’ my Beta Jace now sounds in the mind link. At the same time, I also see Mercedes’s eyes go blurry. Probably Saphira contacts her. I wait a few seconds. “Zane, please, don't kill my pack. Give them the opportunity to correct, I'm sure they can. It was the Alpha that went wrong," Mercedes now urges.
I look at her pleading face and I'm sold.
“We are replacing the Alpha, Ahri can retire. Who do you want there as the new Alpha?” I ask her. “Jace and Saphira”, she answers immediately, without thinking. I stare at her in surprise. “My Beta? But I need him.” But I already know Jace is the one. Saphira had always wanted to stay in her pack and do charities; this is her chance. ‘Jace, the Luna says you're going to be the Alpha. So decide what happens there. Keep an eye on Kenry with Clarita, he might go too hard on her.’
‘Zane, are you serious? Me, the Alpha of Silver Moon? Man, my mate will go crazy with joy”, he shouts gratefully from. ‘By the way, Clarita has fled, back to Shadow Moon’.
‘Yeah, Jace, I’m serious about that. What Mercedes decides goes. Just build a new packhouse. And a decent home for the old Alpha and his mate. Go ahead, as long as I have my Gamma back’, I let him know. Next to me, I see my own Luna looking at me gratefully. I wonder how she'll react when I tell her our news later, if only that of Jace is making her this happy. With our order in hand, we drive away from the drive-thru. Mercedes has completely forgotten that she really wanted Coke and no juice.
