I’m No Fool

I’m No Fool

Alpha Son Glary's POV

If Mercedes thought I believed her when she told the story in the car, she's very wrong.
I am deeply in love with her but not crazy yet. With my Alpha blood, I have a higher instinct than regular wolves; she should have known that.
As soon as I opened my eyes from my intoxication, I smelled the sex all over her body. I asked her if we had sex and was sickened at the idea that I had erased such a vital matter from my memory. But she denied it. So that means she was with Alpha Zane. And indeed, soon enough, I could sense that the scent on her was from that man. As we drove away, the events before I lost consciousness slowly reversed.
Indeed, I went to meet Jasmina when I caught her scent near the private room. I found her in the parking lot, officially rejected her and she accepted with all her heart. But right after that, I felt a prick on the back of my arm. I was drugged. And when I regained consciousness, I was lying next to Mercedes who was completely enveloped in Alpha Zane's scent.
There is clearly intent here, Mercedes is cheating on me. She pretends to want me as her mate, but in the meantime, she continues to maintain her relationship with Alpha Zane. That is why she always indicates that she will never reject the Alpha.
I can't wait for her birthday. I need to act now, before her wolf shows up. I have to cut them off, I'm sure Alpha Zane is preparing an offensive.
‘Dad, are you free? I need to speak to you urgently.’
I wait patiently for his answer as I try to curb the anger inside me. Mercedes' deception cuts deep, even my wolf who was already charmed by her is deeply disappointed. ‘Yes, come to my office. I can spare half an hour for you. Problems with Mercedes?’ I hear him say. With vast strides I walk into the packhouse, straight to his office. A quick knock and I push open the door.
My father is sitting behind his desk, Clarita is a few meters away from him. I see he's wearing his sweater wrong. That means Clarita is back to her old self. I growl at her and she flees the room as fast as her legs can carry her. Then I plop down in the chair in front of my father's desk.
"Father, Mercedes is still in contact with Alpha Zane," I confess disheartened. “I thought she was finally getting warm for me, but she was just playing along. I think they're just waiting for her eighteenth, her first shift." My father looks surprised, he can't imagine Mercedes daring to act against his orders. He expects absolute obedience from the Beta family. But before he can say anything, I open my mouth again. “I have to be one step ahead of them. She must commit to me before her birthday, have no way out of going to Alpha Zane. Father, help me again. Mercedes is all I want," I beg. My father always wants to make me happy. I'm sure he can come up with a solution here too.
“Her birthday is in a week. Give me a moment to think about this matter. I promise to present you with another plan tomorrow.” Of course, he does not disappoint me. I stare at him with relief. “Really, Dad? Goodness, I will be forever grateful to you if this works out. If Mercedes weren't so stubborn!” Overjoyed, I leave his office to go to my apartment. I still feel a bit sluggish, so I quickly take a bath and retreat. In a few hours, I have to get Mercedes again to meet my parents as my mate officially. She won't notice by any means that I'm aware of her deception until my father unfolds his plan.
“Glary, man. Wake up!” I suddenly hear next to me. I open my eyes with a start and look straight into the face of my Gamma John. He bends over me in amusement. “I hear Alpha Zane drugged you and then took off with the top prize right under your nose,” he jokes. His burst of laughter fills my apartment, annoyed I stare, ready to kill him. “Seriously, John?! I just can't see the funny side of it. Please tickle me now”, I answer him sarcastically, rolling my eyes. "Because your Clarita was on my father's lap again, what do you say to that?"
And with that, I hit the mark. His face is red with anger, his eyes are spitting fire. "What did you say? Are you driving a wedge between us now that Mercedes is taking you by the horns?” he hisses between his front teeth. “Clarita just got out of bed. How could she have been with your father?”
“That's not my problem. I only say what I saw with my own eyes a few hours ago," I say dryly. “What are you here for anyway? I desperately need my sleep, tonight I'll bring Mercedes to my parents as my Luna." Though not entirely reassured by my statement, he shakes his head. “Listen, Glary, Alpha Zane is not going to just leave Mercedes for you. If you want to keep her here, you must know her weakness. And that is her parents,” he points out. “Is something dawning on you now, stupid?”
Yes, my Gamma is correct. Why didn't I think of that myself? “I notice that you are thinking a little better now,” he continues to harass me. “Don't worry, I've already worked it all out. Tonight, after your momentous dinner with your mate, we'll discuss it further with your father. I already have everything ready to go”.
Satisfied I look at my Gamma, almost regretting my earlier slash at him. But daubing Mercedes is like hitting me with the Achilles heel. Whatever she decides, no one has the right to question her, she is the future Luna of Silver Moon. “Try to keep Clarita in line, John. I don't want any drama in the packhouse after Mercedes moves in here. There must be peace here.”...
