Chapter 77
Chapter 77
Scarlett POV
I caught up with him on the balcony on the 3rd floor, he looked angry for a reason I had no idea about. I didn’t care what was making him mad, I needed answers as to why he did what he did.
“Jack! Why did you end the meeting…”
“Really? You really don’t know why?” He charged at me so angrily I froze in fright, what had come over him?
“No I don’t! You owe me explanations!” I replied angrily.
“Everyone in the room knows that you’re guilty of what she just accused you of, do you want me to continue the meeting so she can expose you? Is that what you want?” He barked so angrily that my grief almost dissipated.
“You believed her the moment she accused me but you couldn’t believe me when I told you who she was until you researched it, and I know that you believed those lies she just told the whole council!” I yelled.
“You wouldn’t have been so hard to believe if you hadn’t been hostile to her the moment she came here. None of this would be happening if you hadn’t tried to get rid of her”
I stopped talking as tears welled up in my eyes, was Jack trying to say that Becky would still be alive if we hadn’t tried to get rid of Marie? So in short, he was blaming us for Becky’s misfortune. I was hurting, my wolf was howling and I wanted to tear Jack apart. Never have I hated anyone this much,
“This wouldn’t be happening if you didn’t bring her here in the first place… you called this meeting off to protect her. Everything you’ve done up till now was for her…”
“You know that’s not true, I called this meeting off to protect you. Her innocence can be proven but yours cannot be proven, there were too many witnesses! I didn’t want her to embarrass you, that's why I called it off. Even if she’s proven guilty, you’re going down with her, so I had to stop it”
“What the hell are you talking about? She’s not one of us,”
“So she doesn’t deserve Justice? If you’ve lived alone in a foreign land before you will understand how painful it is to be singled out and bullied…”
After those words I knew I didn’t have his support, I was in this fight alone. Maybe I should go to the dungeon and finish the job myself. I turned around and started to walk away with tears in my eyes. If I don’t leave now, I’ll kill Jack with my bare hands. I walked without a detour to the entrance of the dungeon where Marie had been locked up. Just when I was about to go down the stairs, guards appeared out of nowhere and blocked my path.
“Your highness, nobody is allowed to see the prisoner,” they informed me to my devastation, how far would Jack go to protect this witch?
“But I am the queen,”
“We’re sorry your highness.”
I nodded, “I understand… but can you also do me a favor?”
“At your service…”
“Make sure you kill anything that flies, even if it's a bug, don’t let it fly in here, not a single fly or a bird, or anything.” I warned
“Yes your highness," they responded.” I turned around and left, since I was in charge of the castle I went around giving that order, everything that flies must be killed, I don’t want anyone to fly in there and save that girl. I have plans for her, she will not live to see the light of day, by tomorrow I will go into the dungeon and kill her myself. I don’t care what Jack will do to me after that, I just want her gone. I hope she meets Becky in ghost land so she can kill her again!
I went to the cold room next, I wanted to see Becky, I know it will break me even more but I need to know what they did to her. I bravely went into the cold room, and walked up to where she had been laid.
She had a hole in her neck and one through her chest. Oh, how could this have happened to her? She was so young and full of life she didn’t deserve this! Marie must die else I am not fit to be called a friend of Becky! I must avenge my friend, I need to fight for her. I can’t let this go.
With tears in my eyes I went back to the dungeon, I needed to see Marie, I needed to know why she did that to her and my brother! I needed my answers and my revenge.
“I know nobody is allowed to see the prisoner but can you let me sneak in before the sun rises? I need to ask her something very important. Please don’t say no to me, please.”
This time I was getting somewhere, they could see my desperation and they could feel my grief. I know they understand what I’m going through. Finally one of the guards nodded.
“Pass through at dawn, we will have a short meeting and this place would be left unguarded, do what you have to do quickly and leave. If we don’t see you, we can’t stop you.”
I nodded, feeling very grateful for the kindness they had shown towards me. I will remember it and I will reward them in due time.
For the second time in a row, I didn’t sleep, the nightmares and grief kept me company, I wondered if Becky was hovering around trying to talk to me, I wish we could talk one last time, I should’ve stopped her from going to Marie’s room that night. Or I should’ve gone with her, I don’t know what to do or think! It’s so painful.
