CHAPTER 118
CHAPTER 118
CIERRA’S POV
He remained silent for a few moments before he looked at me again, “You’ve made up your mind, so I hope you stay safe, and when you're ready to return to the pack, you'll be fine again.” His words sent a warmth through me. He sounded like an alpha that genuinely cared for the well-being of his pack member, and it made me feel seen in a place that I would never have thought I would be, and even if there was a high chance he was just saying that because I was his mate’s friend, it was still enough to make the tears almost come pouring out of my eyes for the second time today, but embarrassing myself like that once was enough for me.
“Thank you, alpha,” I said, giving another bow before leaving the office.
ANASTATIA’S POV
My heart felt like it was going to fall right out of my chest. We were surrounded. How this managed to happen on palace grounds was beyond me, but our chances of escaping were quickly getting slimmer.
I took a deep breath and clutched his hand tighter, trying to draw courage from his presence alone. The one that stepped in front of us sneered, spinning his dagger in his hand with an evil glint in his eyes.
“She’s the princess?” He said, eyeing me head to toe in a way that made my skin crawl. I hid myself as much as possible behind Eric, but that didn’t really help. They were everywhere.
“How did you get into the palace?” My mate said with a barely veiled fury, but I don’t think the strange guy got the message. Why do I think so? Because he burst out laughing like that was the funniest thing he had heard in his entire life.
I could feel my mate tense even more with each second that passed, but I don’t think things were going to go in our favour. Not this time, it wasn’t hard to tell. I mean, we were surrounded, and this part of the castle was usually isolated. It would be a miracle if someone could randomly pass by and help us out. Except Eric could reach them through the mind link.
“Don’t worry, alpha, we have nothing to do with you. All we want is that pretty princess behind you, and we’ll be out of your hair in a minute. If you could just step aside…” He trailed off, coming closer than he was a minute ago.
When the strange guy (let’s call him Thing One) realised that my mate wasn’t moving an inch, he sighed, almost like he was tired, and looked Eric dead in the eye. “By now, I’m sure you have realised that no one is coming to your rescue. I made sure to take the necessary precautions to ensure ‘that’ doesn’t work.” He said, pointing at my mate’s head.
It took me a minute to understand, but when I did, my heart nearly ran out of my chest. The mind link. He blocked the mind link. I took another deep breath to keep myself calm.
We could get through this. Eric would fight, and so would I. Even if no one was going to come to our rescue, we could still make it. With that thought, I felt my muscles lock in a defensive pose, just as the weasel’s eyes landed on me.
He smirked, taking in my defensive pose, and chuckled slightly to himself. “I see they were right, princess. You don’t like things the easy way.” I blinked; that was how much time it took for chaos to erupt all around me.
I felt someone grab me from behind, and I punched without even thinking or looking to see who it could be. Why was no one coming to this part of the castle, even with all the noise we were making?
My question was answered soon enough. I was giving my last kick to one of the people who had come to grab me. I looked around realizing that somehow, in the middle of the fight, Eric and I had been separated.
Trying desperately to catch my breath, I looked around, wondering in which direction I needed to go to be with my mate again. That was when I saw her. Her skin was as smooth as silk, and her hair swept all around her like a waterfall. She was beautiful.
It took me a second before I remembered how to breathe, and by then I was a second too late. Her eyes landed on me with a vengeance, and for someone with such delicate, ethereal features, there was a fire behind her eyes that I didn’t expect to find.
I was frozen in my spot, unable to think. I didn’t want to do anything that could set her off, but it turned out that I didn’t need to. A wicked smile grew on her face, and I found myself moving towards her against my will.
I couldn’t move a muscle. It was like she had cast a spell on me, and I was hers to do with as she deemed fit. “Are you the little human they want?” She asked when I was close enough to her. “I wonder why they would want a weak human like you, but I have to do what the bosses say, you know.” Her voice was a sultry drawl that made you want to lean in and listen to it for hours. The closer she got, the harder I fought, but it was a losing game.
“No need to fight, little princess. Everything’s going to be alright.” Her voice sounded distant. Like she was by the edge of a river, and I was underwater. I felt my body grow limp as the fight slowly left my body, but there was nothing I could do.
