CHAPTER 107
CHAPTER 107
“It’s honestly not what you think Eve ,trust me loves you... a lot more that you could even imagine. He just.... he has a lot of things to get done before he feels like he could be ‘worthy’ of you....” I released a sigh and ran my fingers through my hair. How was I supposed to explain things to her without letting the cat out of the bag?
I couldn’t do that to Ben. “I don’t know how to say this Eve.... but I promise you that he loves you and he’s going to do anything he can to be with you. He just wants to....” I stopped myself before I could spill the beans. “It’s not my story to tell, I think you’d just have to speak to him on your own.” She scrunched up her face in confusion, but we both knew I was right.
She sighed and nodded her head. She needed to think about a lot of things, and I completely understood that, so I walked out the door and closed it behind myself. I headed to Cierra’s room and knocked on the door, but no answer came, I knocked again and still heard nothing.
Opening the door I looked inside, frowning in confusion when I see even a glimpse of the familiar red head. Where was the? Where on earth could she be-” Then I realised... yesterday, the bloody alpha bastard. Shit! I pulled my hair trying to release some pent up frustration.
I honestly don’t even know if the bastard was dead or not, and honestly I couldn’t care, but Cierra on the other hand... I released a sigh trying to calm myself down. Where could they have taken ‘him’ to after the fight? If he was alive he’ll be in the clinic, but if not.....
I didn’t even want to think of that possibly... for Cierra’s sake, I won’t. With a sigh I turned around and made my way back to the clinic. This time I went to the general ward where regular people and pack members stayed when they were injured.
I checked every single ward, but he wasn’t there. I moved to the emergency unit and checked every single ward, but I didn’t find him there either... if he wasn’t here that means.... Cierra must be devastated. She was one of the werewolves I knew that always looked forward to a happily mated life, but she ended with... ‘him’.
I guess it’s true then... I guess bad things also happen to good people. I left the clinic with a sigh and made my way back to her room, it was just a few minutes past seven now, she’d have to come back here sooner or later. That was what I thought ti myself as I settled into the sheets.
I woke up a few hour later, but still no Cierra. I furrowed my brow, confused. How was I supposed to find her if she didn’t come back to the room. I was absolutely positive that she did not come while I was sleeping , or else the sound of the door opening would have been enough to wake me up.
I got out of the huge and really comfortable bed and headed back to my room for a hot shower. While I was beneath the warm comforting spray of hot water scrubbing away all the tension been weighing me down these past few days.
My mind kept drifting off to the fight yesterday, was she there? Could she see everything that happened? Did she see her mate die? How did she feel then? Right now? There were a lot of questions I had. I wanted the best for her, I honestly really did, but there was nothing I could do for her here... it might hurt like hell, but I know shell pull through, she’s one of the strongest wolves I know.
After getting out of the shower I dried myself and slipped into a pair of joggers and a plain tee. I heard a knock on the door just as I was leaving the closet and so I opened it. The wave of relief that washed over me when I saw who it was at the other side of the door was immeasurable.
She looked like a mess... a really hot one. I ignored everything as I wrapped my arms tightly around her. She sobbed into my shirt fora long time, I brought her into the room and sat her on the bed. I held her for a long time as he cried, murmuring sweet nothings into her ear.
It occurred to me that they never spoke much... maybe twice or three times, but they were not that deep, and half the time, he spoke down on her or told her how she was not enough, but that was the power of the mate bond. It was enough. It was enough no matter what, despite preferences and race. It was enough.
I just wish it didn’t have to make her suffer so much. I hugged her tightly as she emptied her eyes. It was hours later, but she had put herself together a bit. The tears were still flowing at full speed, but he sobs had stopped and she sniffled heavily.
“He’s gone Ana...” She sounded like she could hardly believe it. Like it was the most unbelievable thing she had said out loud all day. “My mate...he’s.... gone.” Then the water works started all over again. I sat there hugging her for what was possibly the longest time, at some point Eric came into the room, but I shook my head at him, he got the message and backed out of the room slowly.
“Would I ever be happy again Ana? Is that even possible? I hardly even knew the guy, but my life already revolved around him, and I didn’t even know. Is it really possible to get past something like this?” I didn’t know what to say... how do you tell someone that the one person they had been waiting for all their lives basically rejected their and is now dead that everything was going to be okay? I knew that it’d be, or at least I hoped so, but she definitely didn’t.
