Chapter 141 Luna Stays
Chapter 141 Luna Stays
Donovan's POV
Luna woke up on the seventh day.
Her eyes opened. They were still multidimensional.
She sat up in her crib unassisted and moved with coordination that no infant should possess.
She looked at me, at Sierra and at who was Aurora sleeping peacefully in the adjacent crib.
Then she spoke, not telepathically this time around, but aloud.
"I have made my decision."
Sierra moved closer. "Luna, are you okay?"
"I am functional and better than I was before the merge." Luna's multidimensional eyes tracked us both. "I touched billions of consciousnesses. I experienced existence from countless perspectives. I understand now what I am and what I must be."
"You're our daughter," I said.
"I am that, and more. I am the new Convergence. I maintain the bridge and stabilize the dimension." She looked at her hands. "I released Aurora from that burden. She is free to be mostly human now and have a childhood, but someone must maintain the bridges and hold the reality together."
"You're ten weeks old."
"Age is irrelevant. Capability is what matters, and I am capable." Luna turned her gaze to the window. "The First Convergence is gone. I felt it dissolve three days ago. The dimensional bridges are mine now. I maintain them. I hold the connections. Without me, separation accelerates."
"There has to be another way," Sierra said. "You don't have to carry this alone."
"There is no other way. I have calculated every possibility." Luna's voice was calm and confident. "Aurora released her cosmic burden. You released your entity fragment. The Grey Collective failed. The religious movements dissolved. I am the only remaining entity capable of maintaining the bridges."
"What about the door?" I asked. "The exit option through which you could still leave."
"I could but I will not."
She stood steadily and walked toward the window with impossible balance.
"Do you see it?" she asked. "The door in the courtyard is still standing and offering escape."
I looked. The door was still there.
"I'm going to close it permanently," Luna said.
"Why?"
"Because it is a temptation. As long as the door exists, part of me will want to leave and escape burden and responsibility. But I have chosen my path. I accept what I am. The door is no longer relevant."
She raised one small hand and dimensional energy gathered around it.
"Luna, wait!" Sierra pleaded. "Don't make permanent choices this young. Give yourself time and options."
"Options are inefficient when one path is clearly correct. I am the Convergence. The bridges are mine. This is purpose. This is function. This is what I was created for." Luna's hand glowed brighter. "And I accept it."
"Even if it means never having a childhood? Never being just a child?"
"I am having a childhood, though a cosmic one. I will grow. I will learn. I will develop. But I will do it while maintaining reality. That is simply my normal."
I wanted to stop her and pull her away from the window but I couldn't, because she was right.
Someone had to maintain the bridges, and Luna was the only one capable.
"Will holding the bridges hurt you?" I asked.
"No, it is actually optimal. My consciousness is structured for this. I process reality as data. Maintaining bridges is simply processing dimensional frequencies. It is no more burdensome than breathing is for you."
"But you'll never be normal."
"I was never going to be normal. I am tri-hybrid. Part human, part werewolf, part witch, part entity. Normal was never an option." She looked at me. "But I can be happy. I can have purpose. I can be functional. That is better than normal."
Luna's hand released the dimensional energy.
It shot across the distance to the door in the courtyard.
The door shuddered and began to close.
It was sealing permanently.
"No!" Sierra ran to the window. "Luna, you can't. What if you change your mind? What if you need to leave?"
"I will not change my mind. Logic does not change. Mathematics do not shift. I am what I am. The door is unnecessary."
The passage collapsed completely. The physical door remained standing, but it was just wood now . The dimensional threshold was gone.
Luna had closed the exit forever.
"Why?" I asked. "Why eliminate your only escape?"
"Because escape is cowardice. I am not coward. I am Convergence." Luna turned to face us. "Aurora made her choice to be free from that burden and simply be human and I respect it. I make a different choice. I accept my burden. I embrace what I am. I close the door so I never question that choice again."
She walked back to her crib, climbed in with unnatural grace and lay down.
