Chapter 43
Chapter 43
Selene’s POV
I immediately went into our safe place. This is what he wanted, right?
I already miss that noisy man. “Bro, don’t you even know how to make your presence known when you’re here?” I asked with a raised brow. He only shrugged and turned to face us.
“Sis, I’m not a ghost to ‘make my presence known,’ and besides, I didn’t want to disturb your lovey-dovey moment with Brother Dwight.” He teased, making me blush.
“You’re already too late—you’ve disturbed us, Crate,” Dwight replied as he gently laid me down on the bed.
“Crate, don’t beat around the bush. State your business,” I said seriously. There are only two reasons why he’s here. First, because he misses me—which isn’t possible since we just saw each other earlier. Second—and I’m sure about this—
He wants to say something to his brother-in-law. “I really can’t hide anything from you, Selene. Well, we need your mate upstairs now—we’re getting ready.” He informed us of the situation. I nodded. This is it. My mate and I have to part ways for now.
“Love, always remember I love you. You and our pups,” he said lovingly. He kissed and hugged me, and Darren did the same to bid me goodbye.
I knew they were saying goodbye not because of anything else, but because they were about to leave. Before he stepped out, he kissed me again. Crate was about to follow, but I stopped him because I had something to say.
“Crater, bring our sister home. You all have to come back complete, and please, take care of yourselves… be safe.” I hugged him tightly. He kissed my forehead in agreement. Before leaving, he said:
“I will bring our sister, just like Kuya Dwight said. We’ll come home together. I love you, sister.”
Then, here I am—entering one of the rooms here under the Pack House. I have to give it to that guy; he really prepared everything well.
He gave me the blueprint of this safe place, so I know every corner by heart. Even this room, he had it built specifically for me and Darren for situations like this.
Tsk! “Love, I am—” I heard him start to say through our mind link, but I cut him off and put up my barrier so he couldn’t enter my thoughts. I laid half my body on the bed.
I was in a bad mood. I rubbed my belly. “Baby, they’re so annoying. They upset mommy. When you come out, punch them all, okay?” I told my unborn pup. I turned toward the door when someone knocked.
“If that’s you, Dwight, don’t even try!” I shouted. I didn’t want to see his face—it would only make me angrier.
“No, mommy. It’s me, Dayen. Don’t you want to see me?” There was a hint of sulking in his voice.
When I realized it was him, I opened the door. To my surprise, he was being carried by his father. I ignored Dwight and took Darren from his arms. He thought I’d let him inside—well, too bad for him. Once I had our son, I slammed the door shut.
“What the! Selene, I almost got hit in the face by the door!” he yelled. Serves him right. That’s just my first act of revenge—I’m not done yet. “Too bad!” I shouted back.
It’s so annoying. Just because I’m a woman, does that mean I can’t do anything for the Pack?
They want the men to always be in control, as if they can just manage us she-wolves like we’re their property. They seem to forget that we’re their mates. Dwight kept knocking.
“Selene! Please, love, let’s talk about this again,” he said calmly outside. But I knew he was still mad about what I’d done.
“Go away! Isn’t that what you want? Leave! Be on your own!” I was throwing a tantrum again. Babies, what have you done to mommy?
I heard him sigh. “If that’s what you want, I’ll leave you then.” See? I knew it—he just wants to leave me. He got me pregnant, and now he’s going to abandon me. Is it because I’m fat now?
Does he not love me anymore? Maybe he’s just forcing himself to stay with me. My tears were starting to threaten again.
“Wait, where did that come from? What separation are you talking about? And who told you you’re fat? You’re the most beautiful and sexy woman in my eyes—always remember that,” he said through our mind link.
I rolled my eyes. He’d managed to get into my thoughts again. I placed Darren on my lap. He looked confused, glancing between me and the door where his father had returned.
“Love, please. Open the door now,” Dwight pleaded softly.
I could never resist him when he spoke so sweetly, so I set Darren down on the bed and opened the door.
“Woah—” I gasped when he immediately hugged me tightly.
“Don’t do this again, love. You know being away from you, even when we have a little fight, bothers me.” He buried his face in the crook of my neck. He guided me to the bed, sat me on his lap, and wrapped his arms around me tightly.
I heard Darren giggle when his father kissed my cheek and then my stomach. The little one was already ticklish.
“I want you and our soon-to-be pup to be safe. We will handle this—me, your brother, and the pack fighters. We’ll win this, so stay here with the wives and children of those who will fight against Logan. It’s your duty as Luna to protect others while we’re at war. Understood, love?”
Maybe I really was being selfish—my place was here. The remaining families in the Pack would worry about their mates on the battlefield. And as Luna, I needed to support them, calm them, and tell them everything would be fine.
My mate and their mates would come back alive.
“Aye, aye, sir!” I saluted him. When everything is right and we’re free from Logan and his armies, I want the people of Silver Moon Pack to live happily—without fear or worry about the future.
So yes, it’s only right to grant my husband’s request. Besides, I know they’ll do everything to save Rose and bring peace back to the werewolf world.
“Dwight, promise me you’ll bring everyone home without a single death. Promise me.” I leaned against his chest—his strong, muscular chest. Aw, maybe he needed to hurry up this battle. My pregnancy hormones were kicking in fast! I faced him and caressed his chest.
“And one more thing, baby—please… end this war quickly. I need you.” I whispered seductively in his ear. He groaned and licked his lips.
“Yeah, I don’t think I can let you be the only one suffering like this. I promise, as soon as I end this war, you and I will be together again,” he said sincerely.
I nodded and kissed him again on the lips. If my wretched father doesn’t lose, I’ll make sure he and Keira get humiliated in front of Mother. I cupped Dwight’s face.
I wanted to memorize it so that when I fall asleep, I’ll carry the image of my handsome mate with me.
“Come here, buddy,” Dwight called to Darren, who was lying on the bed. The boy immediately hugged his father.
“I want you to protect your mom and your baby brother or sister. Me, your uncle CC, and the others will fight the bad guys, so you take care of mom,” he told our son while patting his back. I almost cried when Darren replied.
I wanted to join them, but they’d probably just scold me. You know how men are—when they’re talking, you’re not supposed to butt in unless necessary. ‘Man-to-man talk,’ they call it. I rolled my eyes.
“I pyomise, daddy. No one will haym mom—not even a mosquito.”
I turned toward the door when I caught my brother’s scent. He was leaning there, watching us. Doesn’t he know how to knock or make his presence known? He’s exactly like Rose.
