Chapter 59 Kaden's POV
The receiving hall was already lit when I arrived.
Bright white lights reflected off the polished floor. Glass walls stood tall on both sides, showing the city skyline beyond the pack borders. Cars moved below humans lived their lives without knowing what existed behind these walls.
That was how it needed to be order, control, silence.
Ethan walked beside me, matching my pace. His shoulders were straight, his face serious. He held his tablet close to his chest, already prepared.
“Alpha Xavier of the Dark Moon pack,” He began quietly. “Northern territory, large land mass controlled population.”
I nodded once.
“He is known to be fair,” Ethan continued.
“He doesn’t tolerate abuse especially toward Omegas and unmated females.”
That caught my attention.
“He rose to Alpha after his predecessor was removed by the Council.” Ethan added. “No bloodshed, no rebellion.”
“An honorable man.” I said.
“Yes.” Ethan replied. “Which makes this meeting important.”
The doors slid open smoothly and I stepped inside. The first thing I noticed was the energy in the room. Calm, balanced, no tension, no fear.
Then I saw him.
Alpha Xavier stood near the long conference table. He wasn’t pacing. Wasn’t posturing. He simply waited.
He wore a dark jacket over a fitted shirt, clean, modern, no symbols of dominance, no unnecessary display.
When he turned to face me, our eyes met something that hit me in the chest hard. I frowned slightly, my steps slowing for half a second.
He looked familiar.
Not in the way strangers sometimes resemble people you’ve seen before. This was deeper, stronger. Like my mind was reaching for a memory it refused to release.
I didn’t like it.
“Alpha Kaden,” Xavier said, stepping forward. He inclined his head slightly.
“Thank you for receiving me.”
His tone was respectful, controlled, confident without arrogance.
“Alpha Xavier.” I replied.
“You are welcome.”
We shook hands.
His grip was firm but not aggressive. He didn’t test my strength. He didn’t push, he didn’t pull he knew who he was.
Ethan gestured toward the table. “Please, take a seat.”
We sat across from each other and council members appeared on the screen along the far wall. The meeting began immediately.
“I will be direct,” Xavier said.
“I’m here to request an alliance between Dark Moon and Blue Moon.”
The room went quiet and I studied him carefully.
“Explain,” I said.
“Our packs don’t share a direct border,” He said, folding his hands calmly on the table.
“But our trade routes intersect, rogue activity in one territory affects the other.”
Ethan nodded slightly.
“An alliance would allow shared intelligence,”
Xavier continued. “Joint patrols if needed. Economic cooperation protection of merchants.”
“And what does the Dark Moon gain?” I asked.
Xavier met my gaze without hesitation. “Stability,” he said. “And a reliable ally.”
No flattery, no exaggeration.
I leaned back slightly. “You understand that I can’t agree without consulting the Council.”
“I expected that,” he said. “I’m prepared to wait.”
The discussion went on borders, history, and past conflicts. Trade agreements. Xavier answered every question clearly, he didn't dodge didn’t get defensive.
I noticed how the Council members listened to him. Even those who usually challenged everything remained quiet.
By the time the meeting ended, night had fully settled outside.
“You will stay for dinner.” I said as we stood.
Xavier paused. “I don’t wish to impose.”
“You won’t,” I replied.
“It’s courtesy.”
He nodded once. “Then I accept.”
The drive back to the pack house was quiet, the city lights passed by the tinted windows. Xavier watched them with interest.
“Different from the north?” I asked.
“Yes,” he replied.
“More crowded, more noise.”
“But efficient,” I said.
He nodded. “Very.”
The car pulled into the driveway and the front doors opened automatically.
I sensed her before I saw her.
“Kaden.”
Selena’s voice cut through the air.
She walked toward us with a practiced smile. Her dress was fitted and her makeup flawless. Everything about her was calculated.
“I didn’t know we had such an important guest,” She said sweetly.
Her eyes moved to Xavier, sharp, assessing.
“I’m Selena,” She said, extending her hand. “I assist with pack affairs.”
Xavier shook her hand politely. “Alpha Xavier.”
Her smile widened. “Dark Moon I have heard a lot about you.”
I felt irritation rise instantly. “Ethan,” I said calmly.
“Please escort Selena back inside. Dinner is an Alpha business.”
Selena’s smile froze. “Kaden.” She said softly. “I was only welcoming-”
“This is not your place,” I said flatly.
Her eyes flashed, but she hid it quickly.
“Of course,” she said. “I wouldn’t want to disrupt anything.”
Ethan stepped beside her. “This way.”
She shot me one last look before leaving. I didn't respond.
Dinner was set.
The table was long but only three places were filled. Xavier sat across from me. Ethan to my right.
Conversation flowed easily leadership, territory, responsibility, the burden of command.
“I don’t believe fear is enough,” Xavier said at one point. “Respect lasts longer.”
“Fear keeps people in line,” I replied. “But it doesn’t keep them loyal.”
He nodded. “Exactly.”
The door opened and Elara walked in. She stopped the moment she saw us her eyes widened slightly and her body went still.
Xavier stood immediately he stepped toward her, took her hand gently and kissed it.
“Good evening,” he said.
The room fell silent and my chest tightened sharply.
